I don't have this type of dog however I do have four mixed breed dogs and two cats. I have recently purchased the same clippers that you use (andis ultraedge) and have been looking for detailed, instructional videos on how to clip them (even the cats because they shed the worst and I just can't keep up with all of the grooming). so far your videos (i also watched the one on clipper blades) have been very detailed and helpful. I have so many questions though! is there another way to contact you?
Leo is a doll! He looks very much like my male. I really appreciate this series of videos as my guy also itches so I gave him this cut . It really helps and he looks so nice. It's almost impossible to keep them looking nice with all the long hair. And the shedding..OMG..this cut does help. Thanks!
@carolejean58 Surprisingly no.. I got him when he was around 3-4 years old, and as far as I know, he'd never been clipped. He's just super mellow no matter what I do to him. He's never given me a problem at all. I thought he would be nervous the first time but he wasn't. :)
We all know this is not for show dogs. This would be very helpful for the average cavalier owner who wants to save a few bucks at the groomer. Maybe trim the dog in between trips to the professional groomer. Thanks. I wouldnt have thought of trimming my dog myself. Great!
Thanks SO much for this video. My cav is also uncomfortable with a full coat & has been hot this summer. I showed this video to my groomer so she could see what I wanted done to him. He looks great & I can tell he feels so much better. He's a pet, not a show dog. He doesn't need to be uncomfortable to keep a show coat. Also, we live on farm land so he was always getting burrs, sticks, mud and even manure in his fur (yuck!) This shorter cut is a blessing in that department as well, THANKS!
Thanks for posting this... it's very helpful. Leo is such a wonderful boy and I love how you and he interact, so cute to see... he's very in tune with you. Thanks again for posting!
@PixieCkcs I am fully aware that this is not for show dogs... this is for ordinary people and their pets. Not everyone likes all that fur and, as in Leo's case, some Cavies have very itchy skin and benefit from being clipped a bit shorter. Not to mention some owners don't care for their dogs coat as they should and some tend to get matted. ;) I am not angry at all, but you need to use common sense and realize that a full coated dog is not for everyone. ;)
@spanielmom93 we keep our english springer spaniels coat shorter they wont stay out of the pool so a shorter coat is more practical for us and we also noticed that they dont shed as much when there coat is shorter. we only shave them down in the summer so by winter they have a longer coat to protect them from the weather. i was trying to figure out how to do the ears so thank you for showing how. lady and ajax thank you :)
I have a Cavalier also and he is a very pleasant and well behaved Dog, He will let me do anything and just stand there. I want to thank you so much for the Videos. I have really enjoyed them. My dog also has itchy skin so I like to try to keep him short. Plus I live in Florida and it gets hot here. He seems to be more happy when his hair is cut. :)
Thank you so much for this! I just bought a shaver to give my Cav a grooming at home and I was unsure how to do it. This helps so much! I'm still nervous but I guess with practice I'll get better ;)
I think I need to go out and get good sissors though, probably will make it easier in the long run!
I am getting a Cavie pup sometime this week and we have went and picked her out already! I am soo excited (I have two sons Im outnumbered I need a girl! lol) I was looking for grooming tips and I am pretty sure this is how I am going to tell the groomer to do her hair when she gets older. She is a tricolor also and looks a good bit like Leo she just has a little more brown on her face. They are such pretty well behaved dogs when treated right! I cannot wait.
Wonderful well-behaved, calm dog! (peacecocker1 can learn from him)! Those Cavaliers all have that wonderful sad look in their eyes, don't they? I looooove them for that. Great video. Nice to watch you two!
Thanks, and yes Peacerocker is very immature, I looked at her channel and she is only 15 so I just wrote it off to her being bored and not knowing any better. ;) Leo is a very good boy and to top it off he was a rescue, thanks so much for your kind words! :)
Wow lets see it then... really don't understand why you felt the need to call names but I guess some people just never grow up. It's a shame really...
Thanks so much! Leo is a blessing for sure! I rescued him a few years back from certain death so I am sure he feels the same about me. :) Thanks for your sweet comment!!! :)
I just can't imagine anyone having to Rescue a Cavalier or them putting one to sleep. I have had many dogs over my lifetime and Cavalier's are the best by far. Mine is Nicky I have had him since he was a puppy. I guess my boys figured I needed someone around the house as they all have grown and moved out so they got me Nicky short for Saint Nicholas 2 years ago for Christmas. He is so sweet. He follows me everywhere I go. And misses me terribly when I'm out.

His haircut is strange. Cavaliers shud have a natural look. And hair ewerywhere.
Leo is cute but in the beginning he looks better. It isn`t a haircut for dog shows.
It`s only my opinion so don`t be angry for me.

How long does it take you to do a dog! I know depending on the breed, hair length and clam or playful! but just overall!
tez1204 1 year ago
@tez1204 Usually about an hour or so, including the bath and dry... about 30 min of hair cutting time... ;)

You got a serious problem. Get yourself an education. I wouldn't leave my kid or animal in your hands for more than a second.
