Chris Elliott's comedy is one level deeper than what you described, his characters play the straight man and the comic simultaneously. I don't consider him low brow at all.

The father was a genius. Chris is nothing but a spoiled kid living off his father's success. He doesn't say or do anything funny. His movies were absolute failures. If it weren't for his daddy, he'd be unknown.
