everyone in the world r not same, each individual has his own needs,so it is not right to compare different people and there needs.but it is very important to let them know that want you need is sometime a dream of others.Try to spend money wisely and please do not compare individuals as they r not the same person.
One of the major reason behind poverty is - huge wage difference. A simple worker get paid in pennies while an IT engineer or a doctor earns thousand of rupees or dollars. BTW It doesn't mean that reduce salaries. One solution - educate people, that eventually improves overall quality of life. Now, you don't need to stop spending for that. Just need some field work. Example. visit your local school, do some interactive sessions with kids. Donate books, may be if possible award scholarships.

I have seen many poor people buying many random unimportant things, you can't control that, you shouldn't. Also, only politicians are not responsible for all this. Don't tell people where not to spend, but tell them where to spend. Encourage them to help others.
im sorry to say this but its because so many people have an attitude like yours that this problem still persists. Sure you cant make much of a change, but how about you give up the amount of one movie ticket so a family can buy enough food for maybe a week, depending on the type of ticket you get.
As for poor people spending money on things they dont need, everyone needs and wants to have fun and enjoy something once in a while. people with money take it for granted.
