The display he uses connects via the Apple Display Connector which combines a DVI signal for the video, audio and USB into one cable so you just had to plug in one thing to the Mac itself and you can then use the USB connections on it and speakers (if the monitor had them, like the old Studio Displays). It was a great connection, just a shame nobody else seemed to want to use it as it solved a problem we still have now with cable management lol.

Just wanted to add comment regarding Windows vs Mac. I didnt start using a computer until 1999 when I was 47 years old and bought a 3.2GB hard drive Acer Laptop, Followed up with a HP, a Compaq and last a 15.4"HP with a AMD Turion Chip I am still Using. I never had any problems with Windows but never had Vista either. Anyway I bought a used 12" G4 i Book and like many people fell in love with the OS. I now have a 2008 4gb Macbook, Mac Mini, 4 iPods and considering a Ipad. I Like they All work!

Apple Studio Displays used a special kind of video connection. (I believe it was some off the wall connection, like DA-15 or something like that)

Mac Minis came with a mini-DVI connection when they were released in 2006, so in order to run the previous generation of Apple monitors (late 1990s), you needed a special converter box to route a video connection to the Mac.

It was just a case of connecting old hardware to new hardware.
