How many states are suffering from unused, unproductive, marginal farmland? I'd guess virtually all... in little parcels, here and there... while vast acreages are under agribusiness cultivation, mostly for food production. Those little parcels could be planted in ultra-hardy, perennial, nitrogen-fixing grasses, that could be used for ethanol production AND serve as solar- and wind-power sites... making a green-power grid across our whole land.
Thing is when they return from over there they won't be bringing any oil back with them. Also, if we conserve oil, I wonder if its possible the price of gas will go up because they will need more money since they will make less money from people conserving. Is it a catch 22 for a while.
