Although you can achieve a great deal of dexterity just by repetition, that same repetition can cause irreparable damage if you have bad grip technique. try it at 10 bpm without metronome and then tell if it's harder at 160 bpm!

if you are a drumset player, practice to frickin 8th notes always. It gives you more sub-divisions and makes it easier to keep everything perfect. once you get to 200 bpm++ go to quarters because the eighth notes make the click a bit sloppy.
