@Kamyu03 the Soviet Union and China did not use means of torture and massacre that were alien to the people of the 1300's or that would deal much more dramatic results (no WMD's or elaborate torture techniques). They just killed on a much more massive scale. And education does not "kill" God, since no scientific theory has and will ever be able to disprove (or prove) the existence of a God. You can't say that Japan is an advanced country due to atheism either, that would be a lie

Of course I admit there are good messages in the bible, but there are also atrocities and contradictions. For example. In 2 Kings 2:11 it says that Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind... then in John 3:13 it says that NO ONE has ever gone into heaven except Jesus. This is NOT out of context and it is certainly a contradiction.

For examples, when Homo sapiens thought slavery and killing heretics was good, those parts were literal. When slavery and murder of nonbelievers became bad, those parts became metaphorical.

Only the rich knew how to read and write. God is an all knowing being. If He told you how it really was, you wouldnt understand it. So he used parables so the poorer people could understand. they are really hard to translate now we are in a modern world. Unfortunately, there are people who abuse the text to their desires.
