  • Truth is so hard to find

    yes baby

Cat had some of it before he converted

  • @Themanwhocameback2 Like you, I thought the "hoaxer" in the lyrics was John Lennon. But he mentions religion, which Lennon didn't preach. I'm thinking now he was referring to Meher Baba. Carly Simon's song "Haven't Got Time For The Pain" was about Meher Baba. Her song "Anticipation" was about anticipating a date with Cat Stevens. ...So...is "The Hurt" about Carly Simon? She also wrote a song titled "Hurt". Is that her reply song? ...Interesting.

  • adamsın cat, until i got hurt til i got hurt darling i didn't know what love is

  • his songs give me peace of mind in this chaotic world

  • Look at the passion, look at his body language , he is sharing deep truth as he sees it, this is art , this story telling this is epic humanity being proffered to us. Will we listen, will we learn ..up to you . But I now know wha he means - after so many years his journey has made sense to me , through true growth. hE IS STILL GROWING OF COURSE AND HIS LATEST MUSIC CONTINUES THE NARRATIVE THAT IS ONE OF THE MOST HONEST ,LOVING AND GENUINE GUYS IN THE BUSINESS.

    Now a reprise tour please.

  • @edenic I concur. I concur!!! I am alive and seen. If I have to name the top 5 people in history who inspire me. He is in that 5!!

  • This was a really brave departure from the acceptable formats that dominated at the time, he pushed the style and the depth of lyrics, he was mildly controversial and confrontational when everyone was being all Rajneeshi and orange, he totally turned on a sixpence after Tea for and the Teaser , surprised his audience and his record label and went on to make what for me is definitely a fantastic album.

  • This song and album helped me through some difficult times 30 years ago. Know all the words by heart and it still moves me .....

  • genius of a man at anything he plays and sings

  • Love this song.

I've never heard anyone comment on Cat's devastating criticism of his contemporary John Lennon in this song:

"He's just a hoaxer, don't you know, selling peace and religion between his jokes and his karma chewing gum."

Lennon was a bit of a self absorbed bloviator at the time.

  • @Themanwhocameback2

I just know realized it was John Lennon he was referring to.

  • A true artist !!

  • the real stars dont need a casting show

  • Until i got hurt i didnt know what love is,,,,,,wow!!!!

  • Cat hit #31 in Billboard, 8-25-73. WLS-AM actually played it. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • @sp0ttedp0ny330

Parts of this song have been in my head for years!

  • I love Cat Stevens famous heartache song The Hurt from his album The Foreigner which came out in 1973.

  • This is the first album i bought

  • they don't make singer/songwriters like these anymore. period. end of story. finito.

  • so beautiful.cat stevens for ever.

  • if he wanted he could be the best rocker ever

but he chose to be the best folk singer ever

  • Great thx One of my favs from the cat of cats

  • he got the real LIGHT,luckiest guy!

  • These Lyrics Are True, They Relate To Me Alot The First Line , About How Your Friends Don't Wanna Listen To Yer Problems And Don't Have The Time, I Love This Man, He's Made Some Of The Most Beautiful Songs In Music, I've Cried To His Songs So Much... I Just Wish He Didn't Start Making Records Again These

    Are All Sacred Albums ,

I Was Interested In The Quran And Islam

Forget It Now I Won't Call Cat Stevens ......."Yusuf Islam"

    He's Cat Stevens Forever........

  • One of my favorites from this prolific, if lately sadly misguided, genius.

  • @Punktowner he is misguided in his choice? maybe not .

  • id have to say this is one of my favorite albums. this is when he changed his band isnt it? yeah the four peice was great too. but i like every song on Foreigner all his records were good though wernt they

  • @leit420 There is something about Cat Stevens, his means of delivering a story, a song, an emotion...This is my favorite track of his. I don`t know what happened after this album but his subject matter started to get really abstract and then silly and then he turned to Islam. I`m glad he`s back, even though a shadow of his once powerful, creative self.

  • Still here

    Still listining

    still in love

    God i love him!

  • nice song

  • Super the greatest singer of all time.

so much to learn from such a beautiful soul. he makes the world a better place

  • Everyone called him a folkie but Cat could totallly rock it when he wanted to, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame..what's up?

  • @KatAshley2 very good question. nobody can give you answer.

  • Wonderful. Thanks for uploading

  • One the best from Cat Stevens..it brings back old memory... for Socialisto75, Thanks for the upload.

  • You're welcome! :)

  • om gosh this is exactly how ifeel

  • I love that guy, like the video, so much feeling, simply the best, thanks - from Brasil

  • I love this song, one of my favorites of his and definitely an under appreciated hit. This album (Foreigner) and Catch Bull at Four were classic, liked them better than the more celebrated and popular first three. So glad Yusef is back into pop music.

  • soberbia cancion.Obra maestra.Pero ha compuesto tantas bellas canciones......

  • i got lke 4 days ago his collected cd 54 songs put them on ipod all listen 50+ time's but this song is realy the best

  • "you wait for a miracle, 'cause you say, one day one will come along...."

He is just an increadible man!

That's exactly what it was going to happen to him!

  • yheaaaa great post,.. ty v much

  • Brilliant

  • wow thanks so much for posting! he was at the top of his game...

  • I forgot how good a fender rhodes piano sounded when it was played by a master....greetings from a soul of 73"

  • In grew up with this genius! It helps my heart to listen to him! He is very spiritual in every sense---It is amazing how he was always searching for his truth and he found it--and it looks to me like he still searches for that Heaven---it's in him, like it is in each and everyone of us---we were made that way....Don't forget we are more spirits than human!!!! God bless him and his family!!!!

  • It's like there was all the other music I grew up with and then there's Cat Stevens. His music still touches me.

  • @delamitri100 my sentiments exactly..

  • song forever.........

  • OMG he's too good!!!

  • Sure, he is the Cat. He is the best ever!

  • This is one of five of Cat's most memorable songs, in my opinion, even though you don't hear much of the other 4 songs on, "Foreigner," the1973 released album.

Perhaps the length of a few songs, especially, "Foreigner Suite," a "moving," song of loss and the resulting pain.

but the other 4 songs:"The Hurt," such a great rendition here, as well as, "How Many Times," "Later," and finally, "100 I Dream," all are a very beautiful and timeless collections of songs.

    Peace.

  • Great lyrics!! ".. but he's just a hoaxer, pushing peace&religion between his jokes and his karma chewing' gum..." Wow!! (FOREIGNER is a GGREAT album!

  • Sexeh man!

  • This is for you today, Barry

  • There's a magical energy about Cat Stevens in these performances. I'm hopeful there are, and will yet be, artists out there that can capture the same essence music like this carries with it.

  • merveilleux parfait

  • i wonder...was this the only time bernard purdie played live with cat? what a drummer! and you gotta love jean roussel's afro! great performance of a great, great song.

  • purdie's one of the all time great funk drummers

  • great song one of my favorite's thanks for share it, from Lima, Peru

    saludos

  • Great Song. And that Afro was almost as big as the one OJ Simpson wore in Naked Gun!

  • Fierrce Hair and Fierrrce Musical Arranger.. Jean Alain Roussel .. did most of arranging of Cats Songs..with Cat.

  • Tudo de bom!

Valeu por postar este músico maravilhoso!

  • Aaaaaw:) Love this one. This album reminds me of summer. He did the right thing returning to music. His talent is a gift from above. I know it is.

  • soul and voice perfect

  • I love Cat Stevens.Love all his videos

  • beautiful..

  • nice..

  • one of two of the best Yusuf songs...

  • my favorite by Cat -- love it when he adds a little rock to his sugar. He got some soul when he hits this groove

  • Thanks, great to see this again after all these years. Saw original airing back and 73. It is from "In Concert" on ABC. It was filmed at the Aquarius Theater in Hollywood near Sunset and Vine Street. Every time I pass this theater I think of this concert. Cat was GREAT that night. I hope ABC will on day release this concert on DVD. Remastered with 5.1 sound would be a dream.

  • Please more songs from this album.if you have.

  • enorme.simplemente

  • Magnifica . Cada dia me gusta mas.

  • Oh My Sweet Cat Stevens, I've never forgotten you. x x

  • Preciosa cancion.Autor con carisma.

  • Preciosa cancion. Tanto esta interpretacion como la del concierto de 1976.

  • thank you for this live (for me foreigner is one

of his best album (with catch bull, chocolate box &

number)- and the majikat cd live-

  • "Foriegner" was a brave departure album from his previous releases and one of the most underrated albums of the 70's. The man is a true legend.

  • this guy sings from the heart xxxxxxxxxxx

  • what an inspiring song. thanks for posting!!!

  • I was a HUGE "Cat" fan so of course I purchased the LP when it first came out, learned every lyric and played it until the grooves were almost gone. Purchased a few for friends as well. Absolutely AWESOME. Saw him twice in very early 70s, GOT THE PICS, lol!

  • this is the first i hear and see this song. mashallah beautiful lyrics. God bless him

  • always been a great song

  • Thank you for the video. It (hurt) is an interesting song/concept.

  • God bless you Yusuf

  • I wonder with te lyrics if Cat is speaking about himself (souds that way, looking back) or about someone else? This song, too, is an acquired taste, yet compelling- what an excellent artist!

  • thanks for the vid I Love this man soooooo much.

    He's just brilliant

  • finally!!
