i love that silent hill retains the view we enjoyed in the older survival horror games, i wish they would bring RE back to this! I haven not played any silent hills recently but with the exception of Shattered Memories it seems that all the silent hills have kept this camera, and i really can't stress how attractive that is to me in a survival horror game!
This is actually my favorite silent hill game, right next to silent hill origins. Sh3 was one of the best silent hills to me. A 9 out of ten in my book. I remember when I had this game on ps2 back in days and wish they had it on the xbox because I switched to the xbox lol. I'm just glad they're making an hd collection now I van enjoy it on the 360.
I have it. I honestly think they should have made it easier. The monsters are extremely difficult to the point where you want to rage quit every time you get caught near one. The story is amazing however, and that's why i keep coming back and playing it. :)
Oh, and closers scare the shit out of me. Never trust a closer. >:T

silent hill 1,2, and 3 are the BEST survival horror games EVER. NO EXEPTIONS. I cant believe that people are comparing this with new games, this was made in like '02. The only game that can even COMPARE with these games is Siren. I cant even beat that game lol.

@squerintain Fatal Frame is good. FF2 was the best and it is up there with SH3. FF's shock value is much better (great camera direction on ghost encounters) than the RE series, but in fights it feels a bit mechanical.

i have no idea why people hate shattered memories so much i personally enjoyed it much more than the orignal. i am not saying that SH1 was bad it's just that i liked the story way more because it made sense . Heather was trying to supress the memories of her dad which is why the monsters are there in the first place and towards the end (for my ending) she accepts the fact that her dad is dead and even though she is terribly upset she moves on and remembers all the good times they had together.
I think that this one had the darkest atmospheres. Normal or alternate. *SPOILER ALERT* One thing i kinda thought could have been improved was the last boss 'God' I mean it was great! But could have been a little harder or longer.
P.S. I laughed my ass off when Claudia was jerked into the hole :p
they made the enemies too hard to kill in this one.. .to the point that i just ran around them all the time and it took away some of the fear of them oddly. Still this is a good game but not my fav. This game really felt DARK.
I just download the game and I started to play. And I was like: WTF?! Theres no story, I dont get it... Theres bunch of monsters right away... And I have GUN! I didnt even picked it up... I have SMG, pistol, knife... WTF AGAIN! It should be slow in beginin and then all monsters should come out after some playing, not like you know... Monsters guns, even aid kids at the very begining of the game.. I mean REALLY begining...
Real silent hills are only the japanese made by team silent, that were silent hills 1 to 4. all other are not the same and suck , the american made by climax.
SH 1 TO 3 ARE ALL FUCKING CLASSICS, sh4 the room was the last decent one, the new ones are awful, they all jus lack so much creativity, it almost makes me sick how they can get away with it. they had the option to remake SH1 but fucked it up beyond repair. i was playing it an nearly fell asleep, it bored the shit outta me. the fear factor jus went straight out the window.

@Rilyn666 I think the reason why the latest silent hill games have been pretty sucky (starting from 4) is becouse the developers just cant seem to replicate the sucess of the first three games. Kind of like how the current resident evil games have been pretty lackluster. The more sequals a franchise has the more those games start to decline in quality.

Of course, I might be biased because SH4 was the first one I played back in 04 or so. I finally got this game today for PC, and got Silent hill homecoming a few months ago for xbox 360.
I have been playing them way out of order. When I was younger, I was never interested in these types of games because of the controls.

there is also Silent Hill Origins for PSP and PS2 but if you didint like Shattered Memories then i think you will not really like Origins because TO ME Shattered Memories is better than Origins

I love Silent Hill, because it's the one of the very popular survival horror that has stayed as SURVIVAL horror. Not a zombie shoot'em'up like House of the Dead. And even though Resident Evil is my favorite franchise, it's strayed too far from the path.

silent Hill had the best use of atmosphere. I don't know of a game before it that you could actaully call scary. I like RE, but don't make me laugh by calling it scary.
Silent Hill 2's enviroment and atmosphere was a dissapointment comapared to the first one, but I find it's themes and deep metaphorical underlining to be disturbing plus.
Heather is probably the best protagonist in the series. Lets face it, James and Harry were . . . kinda stupid, and a little boring
I've just started playing this game, and I'm liking it a lot. Heather is great, it's fun to play as her. I'm finding that instead of wanting to fight the monsters I am afraid of them, since they are so dangerous (and freaky), and would prefer to avoid them - as it should be. The problem with the unhelpful camera angles sometimes only increases this fear. It's a relief to enter a room of silence - the sound is the most disturbing part of the game, even if nothing is there the sound is menacing!
@naierer Graphics don't make the newer SH games better than the old. The old ones are emotional masterpieces. New ones? HA, nothing special, just a group of morons raping the franchise.

my favorite Silent Hill games would have to be 1-3 and Homecoming The Room was good but i prefer Silent Hill games to actually be set in Silent Hill because i love the foggy atmosphere and when the environment changes so that it looks gritty and rusty is really creepy
Silent Hill 3 to this day is still the scariest out of the whole series! The first one was scary for its time, and the second one wasn't really scary until the prison and the hotel. Silent Hill 3 is my all time fav!
ive played and beaten every silent hill game and this one caught my eye and i thought was very scary because number 1 you have a very eerie environment 2 you dont run ass fast and 3 your playing a teen aged girl which makes it more scary :] i love this game and i think its better than alot of resident evil games...i also like how its physiologically scary and not like monsters just coming out :}
I really like silent hill 4 but it's not at all like the first 3 however i still think it's as good as the others. It just depends what you like, it really was a huge change when they brought 4 out though.
The first one I watched was SH4. After watching the other 3 games I see why some peaple don't consider it as good as the other 3. 4 is scary but somethings just missing.
I've watched lets plays of the first 4 SH games and out of all of them I like SH3 the most. SH1 and 2 are scary but theres something about SH3 that I found the most unnerving and I think Heather is a badass protaganist exspecially given the f*** up events surrounding her birth. SH1 would be my second fave because even though it had PS1 graghics it still made me go WTF. I thought 2 had a good story (PYrimid head-shivers-) but I like the other 2 better.
Can anyone tell me what games I could try? I like the SH series, and plan on getting the original SH, SH 3, and SH Shattered Memories. Maybe origins. But I'm not big on playing a male character. I play games like Fatal Frame and the clock tower series, and american mcgees Alice.
Sorry this is a bit late to reply, but you could try looking into a game called The Path. I haven't played it before, but I know it has all girl characters.

Haunting Ground and Rule Of Rose are survival horror games where u only play as a girl... u should try them out.. they r rare so ebay or amazon is youre best shot..
The games I hold close to my heart are The Room, Origins, and Homecoming.People say that these are the worst games of the series but I like them because they're the ones I played fist until a friend recommended I play the first three.I have to say, I like them all, some more than others but I really enjoyed them.I hated that "The Room" had a shitload of backtracking but other than that, they were all really great games and I wanna play them all over again very soon.

SH, SH2, and SH3 are the only games as far as I am conserned. SH4 wasn't intended to be an SH game. SH2 is STILL epic. SH1 has aged, but still makes me Shite my pants. SH3 was a contiuation of SH1, so it feels like you are playing SH1 part 2 with better graphics. SH5, SH0, and everything else can just jump off a cliff into a chasim of Hell as far as I am conserned. They may be good games, but they are not SH.

SH3 has better graphics than SH2 and there are more types of monsters and it has more locations. I also think that it's scarier than its predecessor, but the characters and the story in SH2 are just utterly awesome and there's always something new to discover and to speculate!
SH2 is my favorite but it always feels fresh to play SH3! Or the combination of SH1 and SH3...

@MrMindblow12 haha mate, i agree that silent hill doesnt jus make you feel scared, but a load of other emotions aswell. but shattered memories REALLY was such a let down, considering it was a reboot of the original, it could ofbeen so much better.
BUT FATAL FRAME :D iv jus nearly finished the 1st one an i love it, jus waiting to finish it so i can the second one.

I have Homecoming for 360 but didint actually play it
I have a PSP so I can play SH1 and I could buy SH2, 3 for my PS2
The only SH game Ive play is Shattered Memories which truly disappointed me as a survival horror game
Have scary moments but not so many, it was kinda easy in almost every puzzle and too short, but still I liked the story
Im a RE fan (except RE4 5) too
I would like to play them but they seem extremely scary and extremely difficults (maybe)

some of the endings in Shattered Memories made me almost cry

silent Hill had the best use of atmosphere. I don't know of a game before it that you could actaully call scary. I like RE, but don't make me laugh by calling it scary.
Silent Hill 2's enviroment and atmosphere was a dissapointment comapared to the first one, but I find it's themes and deep metaphorical underlining to be disturbing plus.
Heather is probably the best protagonist in the series. Lets face it, James and Harry were . . . kinda stupid, and a little boring

I've just started playing this game, and I'm liking it a lot. Heather is great, it's fun to play as her. I'm finding that instead of wanting to fight the monsters I am afraid of them, since they are so dangerous (and freaky), and would prefer to avoid them - as it should be. The problem with the unhelpful camera angles sometimes only increases this fear. It's a relief to enter a room of silence - the sound is the most disturbing part of the game, even if nothing is there the sound is menacing!

my favorite Silent Hill games would have to be 1-3 and Homecoming The Room was good but i prefer Silent Hill games to actually be set in Silent Hill because i love the foggy atmosphere and when the environment changes so that it looks gritty and rusty is really creepy

Silent Hill 3 to this day is still the scariest out of the whole series! The first one was scary for its time, and the second one wasn't really scary until the prison and the hotel. Silent Hill 3 is my all time fav!

ive played and beaten every silent hill game and this one caught my eye and i thought was very scary because number 1 you have a very eerie environment 2 you dont run ass fast and 3 your playing a teen aged girl which makes it more scary :] i love this game and i think its better than alot of resident evil games...i also like how its physiologically scary and not like monsters just coming out :}

I've watched lets plays of the first 4 SH games and out of all of them I like SH3 the most. SH1 and 2 are scary but theres something about SH3 that I found the most unnerving and I think Heather is a badass protaganist exspecially given the f*** up events surrounding her birth. SH1 would be my second fave because even though it had PS1 graghics it still made me go WTF. I thought 2 had a good story (PYrimid head-shivers-) but I like the other 2 better.

The games I hold close to my heart are The Room, Origins, and Homecoming.People say that these are the worst games of the series but I like them because they're the ones I played fist until a friend recommended I play the first three.I have to say, I like them all, some more than others but I really enjoyed them.I hated that "The Room" had a shitload of backtracking but other than that, they were all really great games and I wanna play them all over again very soon.

SH, SH2, and SH3 are the only games as far as I am conserned. SH4 wasn't intended to be an SH game. SH2 is STILL epic. SH1 has aged, but still makes me Shite my pants. SH3 was a contiuation of SH1, so it feels like you are playing SH1 part 2 with better graphics. SH5, SH0, and everything else can just jump off a cliff into a chasim of Hell as far as I am conserned. They may be good games, but they are not SH.

In my opinion the first silent hill had the best atmosphere. Homecoming wasn't as scary. It was scary but more americanized horror.

SH3 has better graphics than SH2 and there are more types of monsters and it has more locations. I also think that it's scarier than its predecessor, but the characters and the story in SH2 are just utterly awesome and there's always something new to discover and to speculate!
SH2 is my favorite but it always feels fresh to play SH3! Or the combination of SH1 and SH3...

Sh3 is great but the reason why I think Sh2 is better is that the locations are more connected to your character james.
The Hotel (its obvious cause this is where he and his wife mary checked in)
the park (they spent a lot of time there)
The hospital (his wife got hospitalized)
The prison
