Someone teach John Stossel about socialism please, what he defined was actually communism. Actually it is not even communism, since historically most farms in a community were shared, but owned by the ruler or landlords and they are essentially renting the land. Basically someone owns the land, and they just pay the taxes for using it.

What's idiotic about this clip is that Fox doesn't talk about how successful the Indians were. The Indians didn't have the concept of "private property" and they were successful, resourceful, and all had proper food. If you don't believe Stossel, then look at some real world examples. Search "collectivization" on wikipedia. It was introduced by Joseph Stalin, in order to boost farm production, but 7 million of Ukrainians starved to death. Many farm workers were imprisoned in Siberia, when they couldn't meet the production quotas. The country went from a grain exporter, to a net importer. This is one of the reasons why Nazis were hailed as liberators, when they first arrived in the Soviet Union.
The Thanksgiving he's talking about never even happened. The natives once brought food to peace talks with the pilgrims, which followed a conflict started when the pilgrims stole their food reserves and robbed their graves.

So I would love a universal healthcare system but I would settle for a Public Option. Scandinavian countries have the standard of living that they do not because of socialism but because of Capitalism. Yes these countries are prosperous but they are economically free not economically free, and they were freer in the last century. Someone teach John Stossel about socialism please, what he defined was actually communism. Actually it is not even communism, since historically most farms in a community were shared, but owned by the ruler or landlords and they are essentially renting the land. Basically someone owns the land, and they just pay the taxes for using it.

What's idiotic about this clip is that Fox doesn't talk about how successful the Indians were. The Indians didn't have the concept of "private property" and they were successful, resourceful, and all had proper food. The problem that the pilgrims had was not socialism, it was their lack of knowledge on how to work with the foreign land that they were so unfamiliar with.

If you don't believe Stossel, then look at some real world examples. Search "collectivization" on wikipedia. It was introduced by Joseph Stalin, in order to boost farm production, but 7 million of Ukrainians starved to death. Many farm workers were imprisoned in Siberia, when they couldn't meet the production quotas. The country went from a grain exporter, to a net importer. This is one of the reasons why Nazis were hailed as liberators, when they first arrived in the Soviet Union.

The Thanksgiving he's talking about never even happened. The natives once brought food to peace talks with the pilgrims, which followed a conflict started when the pilgrims stole their food reserves and robbed their graves.

So I would love a universal healthcare system but I would settle for a Public Option. Welfare is a must but not universal handouts... we should have more job programs to help people get back to work or to give them training when they cannot find work. Universal education for college would be great too... doesnt hurt to have an educated populace.

Let me get this straight: a company was in charge of the wellbeing of the people and they almost died.
Then the government stepped in and gave equal property to everyone and they prospered.
Fox's takeaway is that the first situation - which is obviously capitalism - demonstrates the evils of socialism, and the second situation - which is obviously socialism - demonstrates the wonders of capitalism.

This all might make sense except for 1 minor detail; The Communist Manifesto was written in 1848, and Humanism didn't originate itself until the French Revolution of 1789 during the French Revolution. The original Thanksgiving was in 1621 as a celebration of cooperation and trade between Pilgrim settlers and Native Americans.

Scandinavian countries have the standard of living that they do not because of socialism but because of Capitalism. Sweden for example have for well over one hundred years had one of the most free economies of the world and this in addition to making it out of the war without being bombed brought prosperity.

@star50ify first off define better, these countries have a lower GDP, higher unemployment, less growth. They have a higher HDI but the HDI has biases towards socialism. Yes these countries are prosperous but they are economically free not economically free, and they were freer in the last century. India before the 1990's was a true social democracy and they were poor. India's astounding growth has been since they moved away from social democracy.

Stossel also forgot to mention a little guy named "Squanto" who had to teach the pilgrims how to fish, hunt and plant corn because when they landed here they did not know what they could eat and had never thought to trap beaver.
He also forgot to mention that in the first year alone 50 % of the pilgrim population died of disease. This makes it hard to work the ground, gather food, and store food if one half of the population is caring for the other half who is sick and dying and are loved ones.
