If you had a serious illness would you go to someone who cares? Or would you go and see the most competent physician you could find? Caring doesn't mean "jack" . What counts is competance. Caring is fine but caring alone just doesn't do it. As I stated Jackson Brown is an uneducated fool. He knows nothing about nuclear power. People who take him seriously are even dumber than he is. I know people who use to book rock acts in SF. They tell me rock stars are the dullest knife in the drawer.
EXACTY! Jackson Browne DOES now about nuclear power, how dangerous it is and how it can't pay for itself and there's nothing to do with the waste. PLUS he has a house that is totally off the map - run with turbine windmills and solar panels, etc. He has done HUNDREDS of charity benefits, talks to young folks, is very politically active and one HELLUVA songwriter and singer. His gift is his heart, his voice and his ability to take action where it needs to be taken.

Jackson Browne-a burnout rock musician who hasen't had a hit in 30 years. I wonder where he got his engineering degree. Notice that he will NEVER DEBATE THE ISSUE! He is a complete and total buffoon!
Hey Juscurious -- As long as the tubes with burnt uranium fuel are cooled for hundreds of years under water, humans and the earth are fine. What happens if there is a loss of electricity and generators to keep the spent fuel rods cool? Huge amounts of radiation, multiple times worse than what happened in Hiroshima, are released! Plutonium -- radioactive for 240,000 years, is left behind. Goodbye earth! (Japan alone has 53 reactors!)
Your ignorance is amazing. You need to learn the workings of nuclear power before making stupid remarks. The spent fuel rods can be reprocessed. 95% of the energy is still present. This is being done today in France and Japan. The will reduce the volume of the material to be stored. Even without reprocessing the total volume of all the spent ruel rods would cover an area of a football field to a level of the goal posts. Trivial. We will need nuclear power in the future. Brown knows nothing.
He's still going strong...touring...always written great songs, talks straight, endless benefits, charity work...doesn't have to...loads of money....but cares about things..what do you do to help people?
Irrevelent. comment. The subject is nuclear power - a necessity if we are to have any future in the US. Nothing else can satisfy the demand for electricityt we will have in the future. JB is simply an uneducated fool. He has been playing music all his adult life. He knows nothing about science or technology. He may have had some good tunes 30 years ago but that means little today. He has NO knowledge in the area of science orf technology. While he was playing music I got 2 engineering degrees.
your comments are noted....uneducated fool he certainly is not. Did you learn about alternative technology ever during your degree studies? My biggest concerns about nuclear energy - still produces emissions, what to do with nuclear waste, terrorist threat - ideal target....what have you done to help the world/people?...best wishes
We have a 500 word limit so I will be brief. Solar in the best of cases only gives you energy about 6 hours a day. Wind only has a duty factor of about 20%. Windmills are also very expensive and have VERY high maintenance costs. The major areas of good wind are far away from our cities and you lose power in the dist network. The uranium in spent fuel rods is NOT bomb grade. It has to be enriched in order to make bomb. This isn't within the capability of terrorists.
What about the danger of attacking a nuclear facility or taking hostages? I've worked in security..just kidknap the power station manager or his family!!!! I may be naive but......
Nuclear Power will be paid for the same way any power will be paid for-by the consumers of the electricity. The spent fuel rods can be reprocessed over and over again. Once they are depleted they can be stored in any secure facility like Yucca Mountain. They are only dangerous for about 600 years but the Volume is tiny, much smaller than anyone might imagine. Besides CDC in Atlanta stores biological material that is much more dangerous, the public just doesn't know about it.
juscurious, you state: "They are only dangerous for about 600 years" and can keep a straight face typing that? In all seriousness, I think you should spend more time listening to Jackson Browne -- you are obviously a fan or would not have even come to this video, right?
There has been 3 SuperGaus now: 1) 1957 Kyschtym (UdSSR, most contaminated region on earth, 30 years kept secret), 2) 1986 Chernobyl ( 860.000 death later, according to this book: 'Consequences of the Catastrophe for People and the Environment' published 2011 at the New York Academy of Sciences. The IAEA has been lying 25 years claiming there were only 50 victims). 3) 2011 Fukushima.
Every 1 1/2 years an accident of INES-Level 4 or higher !

How will nuclear power be paid for? WHAT will be done with the waste. And what about accidents. Wasn't just ONE enough???
