  • Searched for this today because it's a favorite song of personal strength and love. Shocked to discover she's passed on. What a beautiful song. She was taken too young. RIP, Lamya.

  • "i am not afraid to be a lone Bohemian".....

  • R.I.P. dear Lamya — you were taken from us in your prime!

  • Black Mona Lisa is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in years and here's my video to it.

This song is from the incredible cd called Learning From Falling.

Lamya, who passed away on January 8, 2009, will live forever through her beautiful music...

True angels are always gone too soon...

    We'll miss you, Lamya.

  • excellent song, moses! added it to my playlist. thanks for sharing this link on facebook.

  • It's funny how one thing leads to another for ins, I was listening to Paul Mccartney's "Let em in" and something about that song and Empires to me are very similar. I'm really shocked by her death. Beautiful songbird gone waay 2 soon. Anybody out there has her D.O.B.?

  • '73 Same as me

I just found out today too. Mortality check for me.

(Empires will always remind me of Obama, now not just for the lyrics but the fact she didn't even see him sworn in. -Both Kenyan decent)

  • Wow good point! What a great theme song for the man

  • Just found out about her death... So terribly sad.

    Rest in Peace.

  • what a lovely voice,song,and video. RIP

  • those are some stunning images

  • I can't believe I didn't know her before she passed, her music is amazingly beautiful.

  • Hi Brent--

If you like Lamya, I strongly suggest you pick up a copy of Titiyo's "Come Along" album, Taja Sevelle's "Toys of Vanity" album, anything by Helicopter Girl, and Ephraim Lewis's album "Skin." Like Lamya, Lewis only released one album before an unexpected, premature death. His music, like hers, is complex, sultry, inventive and life-affirming.

    Cheers! Christopher

Rest in Peace, Lamya, beautiful black Mona Lisa.

  • shes was a singing beauty and now shes a singing ANGEL

  • Beautifully said. I just found out today that she died and I am so saddened to hear of it.

  • R.I.P. beautiful songbird!!! The world has lost a wonderful talent and beautiful woman.

  • RIP

  • i can't believe she left...i met her once and she sung at my college's function...and she is an amzing hyper lady...and i swear she has the most amazing voice...i'm so glad i got the chance to meet her...i wish i could have seen her again when i had the chance...to me, she'll live forever through her beautiful music...she will be missed....xxx

  • R.I.P 8th Jan 2009 such a sweet person

  • wow lovely song, i love it. Mona Lisa

  • I really like this, It's beautiful

  • Love this song (both versions), love the CD

    thanks for posting

  • The images on this presentation are wonderful

  • she has unigue voice, i order her CD.

  • im so glad my dad turned me onto lamya oh so many years ago..

  • She is truly a gift from Yah and we must support her!!!!

  • I heard that she is working on her new CD, she has a myspace, we should all support her. A true artist. I love Lamya :-)

  • it's a freaking SIN that "my humps" got played on pop radio 1,000,000 times and this didn't get played 1 time.

  • I hear you, brother! And what's even worse is that that trash by the Peas got nominated for a Grammy (best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal). And what's worst of all is that it actually won! NARAS thinks Milli Vanilli winning the Grammy for best new artist is a stain on the organization's history. "My Humps" winning a Grammy is a far more heinous crime from its voting members. Lamya's whole album is great--not a bad song on it. My favorite track: Never's Such a Long Time.

  • I love Lamya's voice and all, she made kenyan women proud,if lamya you ever read this....please MAKE A COMEBACK..your fans wants you back..Uko wapi Binti Omani? Love lots.

  • Thanxxx for the Video...I love this song and Lamya.

  • She's amazing and i hope she comes out with another CD!!!!!!

  • I love this song too, I just don't like this version you have in the video. I think is a little too pop.

  • Yes, it's a radio version. I also prefer the original version from Learning from Falling cd.

  • It's great to have a video for this beautiful song. I had the chance to see Lamya as the opening act for Macy Gray in Toronto (at The Guvenrment). She was so good that I ended up buying Lamya's cd instead of Macy's! Too bad she's not promoted in Mexico. Many people would like her.
