who gives a shit racism is all over the world its impossible to stop it . + hadadi is a sucky player and who gives a fucking shit about a fucking muslim from a terrorist full country - I RAN
lol all you people calling Iranian names but you probelly dont live in LA so you have no idea what we are about driving mercedez benz and buy mutli million dollar houses in beverly hills keep making racist jokes but we make the money.
If saying someone is from "Eye-ran" is an insult, then I feel bad for all the French as I don't say "France" with the something stuck in my throat sound.
Or I'm from the USA and we have our own accents and ways of pronouncing things.
The British have something against aluminum. I bet they don't recycle.
These guys weren't funny - they were immature and a bit insensitive. Call them dumbasses and move on. Open your eyes - he does kinda look like Borat. I look kinda like a leprechan.
Mr. Turner: that was excellent. As an Iranian American who was very hurt to hear that broadcast, you captured it perfectly. I suppose we might have shared some common experiences with bigotry, and it seems so hopeless some times. Your video was very uplifting and I wish more people would view it. Thanks!
If anything, the announcers made just unfunny remarks, mostly directed at the fact that it is very unusual to see an iranian player in the NBA. Iran is not exactly famous for basketball. And on top of that, the guy does look like Baron Cohen a bit, and the joke was only based on his appearance, not that his personality was been compared to the idiotic Borat character Again, bad joke, but far from racist. Seems like you're just reading too much into the whole situation.
Well, the relations are very tense between the U.S. and Iran., so it comes as a surprise to have an Iranian playing for the NBA (not iranian-american or iranian-canadian, but born, raised and who started a professional basketball career in Iran).
It is not exactly common knowledge that basketball is popular or highly competitve in Iran.
Why is it a bad thing to find it odd? And for that matter, why is it racist? Iranians are white as well.
It's not racist, it is insensitive. They are broadcasting to the masses, including many Iranian Americans (who are great Americans), especially in the los angeles area. They were suspended for embarrassing their employer with that exchange. It was behavior that had to be corrected, and it was. They were contrite about it. Haddidi was gracious. Iranian Americans were shown respect as a result. I'm totally satisfied with how it turned out.
@mejsjalv so if relationsions are tense, you can belittle someones origin?
that argument makes no sense.
so, its not common knowledge that iranians play basketball? lets make fun of them and speak of them with scorn because iranians arent watching?
again, that makes no sense.
iranians are iranian! when you discriminate against someone based on their nationality, or race, its just ignorant. and i can always spot the racists because they justify it. just like you are trying to do.
Oh please! have you ever heard these guys commentate? They say stupid, uneducated, juvenile things all the time, every single broadcast. Are they ignorant to some degree? Yes. Are they "malicious"? Not a chance. You discredit yourself here. I've heard them say, "these Spaniards can pass," or, "these Russians can shoot." Though ignorant, it's intended as a compliment, not slander.
And about Haddadi's story, it's a game not a documentary...
When you think about it though, the announcers could have showed Borat a little love though. In a way what they said was like, "look at this fat American, hes not greedy at all hes actually pretty intelligent, maybe those Americans are smarter than we thought they were. LOL
BTW Mr. Turner...Now that the non-ugly American NBA centers Yao Ming, Marc Gasol, Marcin Gortat, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, DJ Mbenga, Samuel Dalembert, Kyrylo Fesenko, Hasheem Thabeet, Primoz Brezec, Jamaal Magloire, Johan Petro, Alexis Ajinca, Mehmet Okur, Andrew Bogut, Andris Biedrins, Rasho Nesterovic, and Serge Ibaka are playing in the NBA, we now have made peace with China, Congo, Canada, France, Turkey, Spain, Tanzania, Australia, Russia, Latvia, Yugoslavia, Ukraine, and Haiti. Go Haddadi!
Ok, please everyone this guy does not speak for all black people.
Lets be sure of that even though we here in America aren't sure about a lot of things, particularly the Eye or Eer in Iranian, but just know that this dude does not speak for all colored folk.
So racists alike or just people with hate in their blood please leave the racist comments in the 19th century.
Hes just a guy who thinks he knows what hes talking about but apparently like most doesnt.
I don't think the way they pronounced Iran is racist. What they said was ignorant. As far as the other comments about Americans having the feeling of superiority, that is an ignorant stereotype in itself. You are subjecting all Americans to your one opinion. That is hypocritical. I am not trying to start a fight or make anyone look bad, as everyone is entitled to their opinion. You can't tell someone what the "norm" is for them if you aren't them.
Strange that a man who comments about how two commentators improperly pronounce Iran does it himself. The I in Iran, Iraq, and Israel are properly prounced with a long e vowel. Variations can be a short vowel i...but that can also be offensive. The commentators did praise the Iranian center for his pass...a pass that occurred during garbage time in an almost-empty NBA arena. If two black commentators had made the same remarks, would Turner be making the same comments?
You can have your two cents back. The only one spreading hate are people like you who blow small comments out of proportion. You could take anyone's comments and twist it in a way to get racist undertones.
Turner, you are a fool and all you P C idiots are fools, get a life! Wait..fools will now be offended. This is a byproduct of the liberal losers that are bringing this country down. You offend me by using the street lazy word "props" instead of "proper credit". You then chastise these men about not going into a indepth biography of Haddadi plight, WHO CARES! Ring out your crying towel and take your sorry act eleswhere. Oh..and Phillyrick, your a sissy, check your trowsers for the right plumbing!
Mr. Turner, myself being an Iranian/American i thank you for your views , it is great to remind me why i am so proud to be an American because peopel like yourself who stand up against any type of prejuidce . Thank you again from bottom my heart.
I lost all respect for Lawler after this game. The whole "Borat" comment and "I guess Iranians can pass the basketball," and :THAT Iran" as if Persia has never seen basketball.
Ok martin luther king. I understand you have your opinion but what they said wasnt an intention to offend. If you ever been to a stand up comedy show then you know they are much worse at being offensive. TV media is the bull that corrupts this country and world. The borat comment was a little crazy but it was harmless. It's just people dont know how to take a joke and thats the problem with the world. rather than worry about that joke worry about REAL WORLD PROBLEMS AND RACISM.
@JuanFernandez77 suuuure, make a joke at the expense of another race. then blow it off as being nothing. and that borat comment " just a little crazy", but fukk it!.
what a joke. you was raised to think this is normal. then you wonder why you are dispised worldwide
Well... I believe that is a little far fetched. I was even suprised that an Iranian basketball player was in the NBA. It seemed like more of a shock than a negative reaction. I dunno. Maybe you see racism where there is none. They said nothing specifically offensive. But suppose they done something similar with a German National, no one would think twice it were offensive.
School girls get attacked by al-Qaeda too in Afghanistan, I suppose they copped the wrong attitude and deserve to be blown up, huh?
As though blacks don't look down on gays and hispancis, or Persians don't look down on Arabs. Whites are probably the least racist these days.
An apologist? And you are prejudice, so what's your point?
The duo was being goofy, insensitive, but who knows what was in their heart? The problem with Turner's argument is that his intent goes beyond racism. He accuses them of racism for things they did NOT say,i.e. praise him for a great play. Then he uses that to segue into a rant of xenophobia.
Bigotry exists. It is worse in most places outside the US. And you and Turner use this incident to rationalize your own hatreds.
No, I'm just not ignorant to think how these guys acted is an American only trait. In fact, America is far more progressive in this area than most. But I do see how you use these unfortunate incidents to rationalize your resentment towards America.
You've been instilled with an attitude of victimization, that's the real problem here.
And you would agree other cultures should be proper in the way they interact with our American culture, right? You have no problem with this, right Philly? I didn't think so.
thats not a problem. everyone that comes to america adapts to your culture. it is you americans that wont adapt to other cultures when you step foot on their soil.
you have no clue how to interct with others. you refuse to acknowledge their customs.
think about the big issue that was made over your president following custom when greeting an official in another country
The big issue about the President bowing is just politics. People that don't like the President finding an excuse to bash the President. Sort of like your lame stereotype that americans don't acknowledge other customs.
Many Muslims living in Europe don't recognize European customs. And on the flip side, countries like France don't want females wearing burkas, or the recent Swiss vote banning minerats. Who are you kidding?
Too simplistic. The Russians were trying to keep a marxist regime in power that most Afghanis did not want. Obama's objective is to keep out an Islamic regime out of power that most Afghanis also do not want in power. On that basis it is not silly. Is it worth it? Is it our business? On that basis it may be silly. But our basis is different from the Russians.
I didn't say I agreed with being there. When I said was it worth it, it was a question. What I meant was our goal is different than the Russians. As for Iraq,
Al-Qaeda is evil. But I question if they are still a threat. Those in Congress that are against the surge are saying there are hardly any left in Afghanistan.
regardless, if the term is offensive then don;t use it... What amuses me is the amount of Anglo-Americans, well lets put it clearer, white Americans who think it is not offensive... it is not you and how would you know what is offensive if it is not about you!
great video, i totally agree with you on the issue, as an iranian-american i am very proud to see an iranian player in the NBA, a great accomplishment for hamed, he comes from a poor family in iran, and with hard work he has made it to the highest level of basketball in the world. 70 million iranians across world are now tuning into nba to see him play, hamed is doing his share to expand nba viewership across the world and middle east, the last thing we want is comments like this.....
Uncle Tom! This was pointless and it wasn't harmful. It did have some innapropraite humor but let it be it's been done before if haddadi had taken offense to it then a public apology is necessary
Great video sir....when are we going to learn that countries are just a bunch of lines separating different cultures/langs and that in the end, we are all human...
It was lakers vs clippers Bo Outlaw of the clippers went for a dunk and hung on the rim for a second and chick hearn said look at him hes hanging up there like a monkey, He most likely didint mean it that way but still, I think alot of people took it the wrong way
Was Chick Hearn criticized for that monkey remark? I know that Howard Cosell caught heat for using the term monkey about a black NFL running back.
But here's the difference: Chick and Howard used the word "monkey" innocently and without malice. Howard had to apologize and explain and maybe Chick did, too.
There was nothing unintentional or innocent about Lawler and Smith's remarks. They deliberately ridiculed Haddadi's national origin. It's obvious that that was their goal.
Re: heyffz -- One person complained but you're mistaken if you think only one person was offended. The fact that Lawler has never missed a game in 25 years is irrelevant. What, specifically, did Chick Hearn ever say that was worthy of suspension?
I think fox went a lil over board by suspending Mr lawler , I mean the guy never missed a clipper game in 25 yrs. Most people would of pernounced Iran,
the great chick hearn always said things that could of got him suspeneded why didint he get suspended? also only one person wrote an email to fox and the clippers about this matter, and look what it has become over one persons email
dude get over it man..if you dont like go back to your land!!!!

regardless, if the term is offensive then don;t use it...
