Change is slow with the Guate govt but the local mayors are talking about waste water treatment plants, particularly in Panajachel. This is a bigger problem than I thought. The slime slick is miles wide and stretches way out into the lake now. It might take international intervention to save the lake. Horrible. But we weren't much better in the US como no? Remember when the Cayuga River caught on fire in Ohio??
What is the Guatemalan government doing to improve the quality of the water at the lake? Are they going to build waste water management plants so the sewers stop draining into the lake? Who if anybody is doing anything that is really going to make a difference? Please help! Atitlan used to be an amazing jewel of nature.
