The sad truth of USA is that in the 1800s the US Government at the time committed GENOCIDE against the Native American People Culture and Traditions of the 120 Treaties the US Government forced Native Americans to sign (which were nothing more steal their land) the US Government broke 119!
@DevlinnMcDermott They forced Native Americans onto reservations and gave out small pox infected blankets to them for winter DIRECTLY knowing they wanted “reduce Native American Numbers” .. Until the US Government own up to Crime against Humanity committed on these people and stops treated Native Americans as 4th class American citizens.. The American Constitution of ALL men have right to Life, Liberty and Prosute of Happiness..” it’s a Joke not worth the paper its written on.
not all people came here to take land you know. some were driven out of their land exactly the same way the native peoples were . Ever hear of the 'coffin boats'? Now we are all dependent upon each other to make things work. There is more support for indigenous culture than you know and if it weren't for those 'others' who wrote down the RIGHT history it would have been lost to even some of the native peoples. Its bitter /sweet. Non native people do support native ways.
@shadlock01 I am not sure what the basis of your comment is, but thank you for it. Yes, there are many non-Natives who love the Native American culture. There are many non-Natives who are very dedicated to working in Indian Country on Indian issues, and other various avenues.
@shadlock01 So what? They're not affected by colonialism in the same profound and devastating way that First Nations people are. That is a poor, poor comparison.
@Harry51966 This is an inter-tribal song, but this was done at the Paddle to Tulalip which I believe was in 2003. Wow, time flies! The Paddle to Tulalip was held in Tulalip, Washington which is near Marysville.
the van olympics- most of the native (i think) don't like it, they spent so much money on that when we have bigger problems at home- the government won't even look at us native. there were protests agaist the olympics coming...
Vancouver (Canada) is now hosting the 2010 olympics. Is it true that there is controversy among the Native ( Salish) population regarding the olympics? I heard some First Nation people are involved in the thing and they see it as an opportunity to have thier voices heard while others think it actually victimises them.
Beautiful Native song! I'm so happy that despite all the colonisation the Native North American culture is still alive. Keep up the good work! It's your continent, be proud of it!
We can not forget that South America was Native land as well. I am Puerto Rican and Cherokee and am proud that South American like North America belonged to Native Americans. One day we shall have it back.
@GeekBoy03 what do u mean"modern humans...we the people of this land(alaska canada, america, mexico and south america which is one people one heart beat) r from this land and no other place on this earth...look into it if u dare to care.
@ndnninja Bull crap. There is noone "native" to this ;land. In fact there is clear evidence Europeans came here before the asians.
Just go to the PBS web site, and look for "watch Videos" and find the 2 part series called "Becoming Human" It explains factual evidence on where modern humans came from.
@GeekBoy03 well we natives to this land did not "come" here any other way then by birth...i do not see how modern humans exist from ur point of view...humans r from this earth and the body of ppl in the lands they come from r deep rooted to it learn that fact kid b4 u put stupid comments about things u have no clue to.
