  • "not you, the tardis!!""

  • It's NOT FAIR!

  • My uncle filmed this and many more dr who series ..R.I.P. Fintan.

  • hehe Romana (both of them) always was a hottie to me. Just too cute at 0:08!!!

  • Wrong theme music :P Ah well, great trailer never seen anything of Shada apart form the stuff in the Five Doctors. Good stuff man think you could do one for Invasion of Time? I love that story :)

  • the best tom baker story of all, shame it wasn't truly finished.

  • To bad that not the whole series of doctor who is available in Holland.

    I have 10 dvd's including 7 with Tom Baker my favorite Doctor.:P

  • Could you do Planet of the Spiders, please? Thanks.

  • Wow! I wish they'd finished this one!

  • And it was written by Douglas Adams, the greatest modern writer in my opinion...why did it have to be cancelled?

  • Wow i have a idea!! imagine Matt Smiths Doctor carrying on the unfinished Shada? but keep all of the events with the 4th doctor in place

  • @RegenerationStorm Well they did remake this story as an audio story (AKA Big Finish story) but have Paul McGann (AKA the 8th Doctor) instead of Tom Baker (AKA the 4th Doctor) you can watch it on the Dr who website if you haven't seen or heard it.

  • Can someone explain, what exactly happened to Salievan (sp?) at the end? I thought his mind was drained and he was left imprisoned on Shada and yet there he is in his TARDIS in Cambridge, and apparently is again a good guy, or at least not doing any apparent harm. Or is he just a renegade/exile like the Doctor?

  • @breaks0 Well,. you could watch the version of Shada avaliable at the BBC website- it alters the story just a bit so it can include the 8th doctor replacing the 4th, but otherwise events play out roughly the same.

  • Fab, trailer!

  • Brilliant trailer!

  • Doctor Who is the SERIES, The Doctor is the CHARACTER.

Aside from that terrible mistake it's a good trailer.

  • Don't you mean Doctor Who is the CHARACHTER and The Doctor is the SERIES???

  • I was explaining this very thing to my sister twenty some years ago, when Liz Sladen comes in and refers to (either Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker, I don't remember) the character as "Doctor Who!).

I was so embarrassed, and as I recall, it was the ONLY time this ever happened.

  • I hate whenever that mistake is made, its like nails on a chalkboard. Why the BBC felt the need to do the credits that way is beyond me. It would be like the credits of Xena, Warrior Princess listing Lucy Lawless as "Xena, Warrior Princess" in the credits like 'Warrior Princess' is her last name. (Yes, I had to think damned hard for an example. LOL)

  • @Diovix Got one. When Channel 4 insist on subtitling 'Smallville' with 'Superman, the early years'. Its like biting cotton wool for me.

  • But... they used the credits from The Horns of Nimon. It was the BBC's own text.

  • well if it was never completed and aired how did you get this?

  • Around half (not sure about the exact amount) of filming was completed for Shada, including all the outdoors sequences.

This footage was kept by the BBC and released on video in the 90's with Tom Baker narrating to cover the gaps. Some footage was also used in the 20th anniversary story 'The Five Doctors' when Tom Baker refused to take part in any new material.

  • All location work was recorded, but only the first of the three studio recording sessions were filmed. The second was dropped due to the industry strikes, the third was dropped because filming for the Christmas season needed to be done by then.

  • This would have been a far better Season finale than 'The Horns of Nimon'

  • I agree, The Horns of Nimon was total baw cheeks

  • It was Meh

  • This WAS the season finale...

  • Grahm Crowden, wasn't he Tom Ballard in a comedy called "Waiting For God"?

  • i like romana's dress, it's very pretty

  • Too bad that never aired. :-(

  • Actually, even though Shada was never released as a full-fledged episode, the footage they shot for the story can still be viewed in "The Five Doctors" Special for Tom Baker's cameo scenes. It's a really good special and is available on DVD at most video stores (I know Borders, fye, Barnes and Noble, and Best Buy has Dr. Who DVD's.)

  • The entire footage from it was released on video in the 1990s. It's up on stage6

  • Doctor Who would be *totally* different if this episode ever aired. 12 regenerations has been the staple of Doctor Who since 1977. This episode would have changed that concept.

  • Why? Nothing in "Shada" contradicts the 12 regenerations... hell, if anything does, it's the fact that we've had a Valeyard Doctor, a Watcher Doctor, and THREE Ninth Doctors!!

  • Well, it has been years since I read the story, but if I remember right, Doctor Chronotis was on his last regeneration...died...then came back through the events of this story.

That would be like having the last of the Doctors die...have this story occur, then have the Doctor get a "Captain Jack" effect of never dying.

It's a jump the shark they would never be able to overcome.

  • Um... the Master got a renewed life too...

  • Yes...and they never explained how he got out of the center of the TARDIS. I blame that one on Russel T Davies bad writing...they could have easily used the whole Rose/Time Vortex thing instead of the whole watch thing they used. Here's hoping that they actually show the weebly-wobbly timey-wimey when Tennant becomes the 11th, then 12th. That they actually show the now dead Time Lords creating the Valeyard from Doctor 12.THAT would be cool, and would be a damn shame if we never get to see it.

  • actuly they said the timelords brought him back to life so they proboly got him out

  • What happenned was that Chronotis vanished, the Dr. then said "he must have been on his last regeneration" though it's never stated if he was (or wasn't). Then he comes back thanks to the supposed "timelessness"(?). Then again I've only seen the webcast version.

What I don't get though is, Logopolis later states it's dangerous to materialise one TARDIS inside another, but there aren't any ill effects here. Then again, it probably hadn't been laid down yet.

  • I watched some of the episode. I think it was caused by something like that. I remember -veaguely- something about the Proffessor coming back to life because of some sort of malfunction, mainly because his own TARDIS was older...or something along thouse lines. Seriously though it was written by Douglas Adam's, seriously I think that guy threw continuity out of the windows sometime.

  • Well at least he figured out the answer to life, the universe and everything... :D

  • @NyeTunes

Three Ninth Doctors? And the Watcher "doctor" was the 5th Doctor. I think the Valeyard Doctor could be the 12th Doctor.

  • @DoctorWhoCenterFilms Yes - the "Curse Of Fatal Death", "Scream of the Shalka", and Eccleston 9th Doctors. The last 8th Doctor novel said that the 8th Doctor's different timelines (comic, book, audio) produced different regenerations. And the Valeyard wasn't the 12th Doctor, he was an offshoot of the Doctor's dark side, just as the Dream Lord was.

  • Its rather good. But 5 seconds too long.

  • awesome
