dale was the best ever i miss him dale jr is the only one that could do the best he can to live uo to his father name im a jr fan seen the race when his dad died when the pepsi 400 came on i watched it i was hooked for ever im a nascar fan for life go 88 im still ur loyal fan
Nascar is still...not the same that he's not there. Perhaps it will never be. :( But, ya gotta be grateful for what he's done for us. We're still missin you Champ.
Been watching NASCAR since I was very little with my family. I remember watching his last race, when he was killed. RIP DALE. Thanks for the great memories you gave us, along with all the inspiration.
It is true.It works at the actual race and tv.look closely at the track and yo will see him.the 3 is still on the track.every day.we just arent seeing it.
I haven't watched a nascar race since the day he died. call me an asshole, call me selfish but i would like him out of heaven back here doing what he loved.. Racing and preforming for his fans. RIP
I hope your having a huge bash in Heaven for your 60th birthday Dale. Still missing that Black #3 with you behind the wheel during races. RIP man, you are not forgotten.
RIP Dale you were the best of the best never was a big huge fan of you but you where a damn good racer and you knew how to show some respect and you were good about it and never selfish keep on racin where ever you are
This is a wicked vid man, props go out to you, amazingly well put together...Im a big guy, 6'0 260 lb pro boxer but everytime i watch a vid like this im all tears, Dale is long gone, but never forgotten...
My father loved this man, I loved this man, but not as much as my father the day we heard the news my father cried the funny thing he never sheds tears.

in the first picture.... thats what my grampy looks like... like EXACTLY and it always made me wonder... i mean my grampy and dale could legit be brothers.... and ive always felt connected to dale in some way...
I lived just a few blocks from there old shop in N.C and i`d see the family and all coming and going and the sounds of a new NASCAR motor OMG and the smells , all i could think this is going to be some killing racing R.I.P
I was just thinking about this man today. Note I am not a racing fan nor was I like a HUGE fan of his...but I just thought of him today randomly and then this video popped up in my "recommended" section...crazy huh?
@Earthlinked His protective straps weren't working correctly and snapped when he hit the wall and he had severe head and chest fractures, which ended up killing him. NASCAR promoted the HANS device, which is more protective, because of his death.
@RyDogRidesTheBus THANKS! I knew that he did not like the HANS device - and like when hockey decided EVERYBODY MUST wear a helmet - except those already in the league!!! He was not forced into wearing it!! I always figured that the hood hit him in the head - I remember seeing that hood violently slamming on the top of the car - MANY times!!! Not a race fan - but always liked Earnhardt - "Charging" Charlie Glotzback (showing my age a bit) and of course King Richard!!!!!!!!
@RyDogRidesTheBus I saw Petty a few times at Daytona and Atlanta - with the old guys - FireBall Roberts, Glotzback, and them Yarborough boys - back when Earnhardt was just a puppie!!!!!!!
He lived a good life - and really - how many of us get to die doing the one thing that we love the most? If you gotta go - and we all gotta go - why no go doing the one thing that you really love to do!!!
To live in the hearts of those you have left behind - is to never die!!
It's STILL unbelievable if you think about it. The sport's biggest name loses his life in the last turn on the last lap of the biggest event of the sport. It's ridiculous.
i left another comment below about dales show car, but that wasnt the only time i got close to the man or his machine. i met him in 1994 at C.Weaver chevy in utica ny. it was midway through the season.we had to wait for a long time in a long line but was it ever worth it. i told him about the day i saw his car.. he signed our stuff, but then he said as we were leaving. HEY! come here, i sat and talked with DALE EARNHARDT for 45 minutes while he signed autographs. thank god for Dale Earnhardt.
He was 8 when i died. I watched the race that day at my uncles i was scared when he crashed and didnt get out because i always so use to him getting out of the car. The night i heard he had died i just cried. Nascar will never be the same with the black 3. He was one of my role models along with Chris Farely. R.I.P both of you
I went to my aunt & uncle's house to watch the Daytona 500, 2001. After the crash, I hung around... just hoping for some word that everything was gonna be okay. Finally I decided to go home..... later that evening the news broke. I was devastated & NASCAR hasn't been the same since. Yeah... I still watch, but I always wonder how different it would be today if he was still around.
RIP Mr. Earnhardt.... you are still sorely missed.
i was nine years old. my dad heard my favorite drivers show car was in town. so we went to the dealership where the viewing had literally just ended. they had just closed the back on the featherlight trailer, and my dad said to the man with the car. can my kid just get a peek in the trailer? the guy said come with me quick! so we went over to the door, he opened it up and flipped a few switches. the car had glass above and below, and it glimmered like a diamond in the night sky. it was a black 3.
i's walkin up those steps to my bed...my old man sayz, "hey daniel"..."you know that their sayin that he's gone?".......Na....bullshit...i look back at him, yea...that moment, and that moment that THE MAN picked me up and put me in that show car that back then, had an engine in it, lemme crank it up...1990 daytona still hurts...my father and i dont get along very well, but, earnhardt got us along...thank you for this trib.
Nascar died that day. It has never been the same since. No disrespect to Gordon but no one will ever be like him and carry the sport like he did. When Dale spoke Nascar listened. These crap cars they run now probably would not be there now. Nascar sucks now for sure.
You could not have put it any better LT. I tried to watch after he died but just couldn't find that passion anymore. I looked for him in every race and not seeing that #3 just broke my heart.
The Day Nascar almost died...But lived on...The man...I can't wait to get to heaven and race Dale and come in 3rd..Dale would agree..We don't beat Jesus on his track...
One thing I've noticed, and that I appreciate (all of the tribute videos to Dale are 5 out of 5 stars) ......that says a lot about the man and his supporters ......thanks everyone! ...... first class, just like Dale would have wanted it..........
this may sound vvery stupid but while dale was alive i didnt like him but on the day he died my dad cryed and you know at that moment i realized that i loved dale earnhardt
We will never see a driver the likes of Dale Earnhardt. I'm sure we all still look for the 3 car. I do....and I wasnt a Fan, liked him just not a fan. That Has Changed ! What a driver.......God speed....
They can put the Number 3 back on the truck... but it's still not Big E. There is/was only 1 Dale Sr... and I don't think anyone can drive as good as he could. Driving a C5 Corvette with race slicks in the rain on 24 hours of Rolex proved this to us.
the look on mike helton's face at the end, he just looked totally confused, its like he was trying to snap out of a daydream. Same goes for childress.
People need to keep their rude and mean comments to there self, but they shouldnt even have any in the first place. amazing video, back when this happened i wasnt the hugest NASCAR fan, i was little. But i cry even now watching this. He will be missed.
Idk I take comfort in fact that I belive that Dale died happy watching his two cars including his son going on to finish 1-2 in the 500. I dont think his accident was a tradgedy because he died doing what he loved and was probably happy when he went.....I still miss watching a race and not seeing that black 3 but I know hes in heaven racing Neil and Davey and Alan
Me being a huge Rusty Wallace fan, for some reason I still feel that only if Wallace gave his old pal Dale a slight tap on the bumper that lap on turn 3 it could have made all the difference in the world. But, I shouldn't talk that way, but I miss him so damn much!
i know its been a yr since you wrote the comment on this, but i wonder every day, if kenny schrader had hit dale as he went to the wall a split second earlier if it would have changed the angle of impact enough to save dale.
Thank you so much for making this video. It is heart-wrenching and I cried from start to end.I'll never forget the day we lost Dale and watching Junior grow up in the last seven years has been amazing. Junior is his own man and has proven more than once what an awesome driver he is. No he's not his daddy but he's never wanted to be. Still loving The Intimidator and his son, Dale Jr. in NC.
