it's better to drink the coke first because as soon as the mentos enters your mouth (even more so in the stomach), it loses its unique coating that allows the cascade effect to occur. drink a liter of coke, then quickly swallow 3-4 original mentos. the coke WILL be purged immediately if you do it right.

Hey there sorry to say this good test but the main reason for the explosion is based on the reactiveness of the bubble particles in a 2L coke bottle you simply cant swallow enough and fast enouf to create a reaction hence the result but cuddos.

The carbonation in the fresh soda is important. when you drink it, it takes most of the nucleation effect away I think. when you have mentos in your mouth, the soda doesnt go far, so it still reacts more directly.

It's the shell that causes the reaction. So chewing almost never does anything, swallowing can cause the shell particals to disolve in your throat, so that leaves yo uwith just putting them in your mouth. That worked because the shells have barely any if not none damage.

It didn't work with the Mentos because the mentos has to be imersed in the coke - 64 ounces worth. Also, two mentos pieces will have more of a reaction than six. Try it and find out.
