MachTwang is correct.. Jackson approached the canvass from all sides on the floor.
Many people look at Pollock's work and think it's simple.. Yeah.. I'm an artist.. anyone can drizzle paint, yes.. but there's MUCH more to his work.. it has balance, tone, texture and emotion.. this guy's just looks like he cleaned his brushes on a bed sheet...
@bustingupastarbucks it will crack some. i've stretched mine over a homemade frame (2x2 pine) and it cracked a little bit. but if you're going for a professional stretch, it will probably crack quite a bit. hope this helps
that's funny about yr. comment on hot dogs and the existence between buns. i thought of having a party with precooked hot dogs and hamburgers. and putting hot dogs on hamburger buns and hot dogs on hamburger buns. i know its lame but its all about linguistics . pollock used a unorthodox method to illustrate hm. self
You left out the most important step! How to find fools to pay $100+ million for your artwork. Also you seemed to be sober while painting - not very authentic.
Jackson worked mainly with the canvas on the floor so he could approach the work from all sides. Your example is unidirectional and sparse by comparison.
I simply stated that your work was a weak attempt at recreating a Pollock-like painting, I wasn't 'slinging mud'. There was nothing malicious or unscrupulous in what I said, only my opinion.
fair enough. i probably over stated. however, in light of all the other comments around here, the mood of "mud slinging" was already in the air.
may i pose a question to you? i was only working from the bottom of the canvas (unidirectional as you stated). however, could i possibly have let gravity & force act as my other dimensions?
whereas pollock used walking to different sides to gain different access points, but i let the force of throwing & dripping to achieve different directiions?
The title of your video is "Learn to make a Jackson Pollock" not "Learn to make John Keese's impression of a Jackson Pollock"
It would be as if I posted a video of "Learn to make a Rembrandt" and completely disregarded his use of chiaroscuro and instead substituted tenebrism. The end results may appear vaguely similar, but it is indeed not an accurate representation of the title.
Yeah, the video content of this stuff is retarded. However, the videography of it is nice. I can't help but think that maybe that was your focus, rather than ripping pollock.
So what do you do, dip the bunnies in paint and hurl them at the bedsheet? All that talk and we don't even see closeup) what he does with the bunnies? And yeah, the sheet should be on the ground. That's the way Pollock did it. Still, I enjoyed this video.
This seems to be a satirical view of Pollock's style. The only way you would have had some what of a chance of being close to successful was if the painting...ended up looking like a Pollock. Instead you have the point saying he "only threw paint around" with the result of something much more hideous than his work with total disregard of aesthetics which Pollock didn't do.
It takes you too long to actually make your point, and there is too much talk in general. Like others said, maybe you should try doing the next one on the floor, like Pollock did.
But I didn't say that. I didn't suggest for a moment that Jackson Pollock's art was crap.
Of course if you think Pollock's art was crap then you are absolutelt correct, though there are millions of people who don't, including many expert art critics who consider him a genius, collectors who have paid tens of millions of dollars for his paintings and the world major art galleries who have his paintings in their collections.
You sound like the kind of guy who will say "my 5 year old could do that" and people have always said that about various forms of art.

So what if he's not doing the method 100% correctly? I bet he had a good time doing it. Honestly, I'm recreating the process of Pollock's action paintings this weekend for my 20th century art class, and I can't wait to start dripping industrial enamel and maybe some cigarette ash for good effect. I'm just saying, snobbery isn't fun, action painting is.
That jazzy bop music was horrible. Plus Pollock painted on the ground because he felt it made him 'closer to the painting.' You put together something here that obviously took a while to make, so I give you credit. 4/5

OK......first of all there isn't a person on earth who could paint a true Jackson Pollock.....it isn't the same....you can paint an abstract expressionist painting.....you can't paint a Pollock....
Second of all......Pollock didn't just randomly throw paint evrywhere....like you did on your poor excuse for a painting. I think Pollock said it best himself...."NO CHAOS, DAMN IT!"
Also, Pollock painted on canvas on the ground.....that was a major part of his art....painting from all sides...

You are a narrow minded simpleton and man with out honor. Shame on you! You truly lack Intellect and most of all, soul. Pollock was a man who was truly troubled, he was intense, he was what you will never. And by telling people they can do a Pollock you're destroying Art. I really feel sorry for you, you don't understand a single thing about art and I didn't know people like you existed for real.

If you're serious, you're a friggin moron. The whole point of this thing was to be funny. If this guy was to say that he was expressing his emotions through every drip on this canvas, you would be kissing his butt right now, saying how he's so friggin philosophical or something. No, I'm not an artist but I know the cool thing about art is that is has no true form. This may or may not be art but it's not your call.
are you really that naive and immature? you obviously don't understand pollock's drive his mindset and the representation he creates with paint on canvas, you're an idiot and seriously need to devote this worthless freetime into learning a little bit about who you talk about, imbecile.
I think people should be a little more open to new ideas... He's not a 'bad artist'... If you think something is bad, you don't like it, doesn't mean the artist is bad. Everything is art. You could shit right in the centre of a canvas and call it art, and people do! I personally think this guy's done a good job, and is brave to be doing this film of his work because obviously (and as can be seen in the comments) people are going to judge him pretty harshly... I like it
one question,...does being bald help your Pollack technique at all?
Joking...i like the idea, more colours and paint and there would be something there to admire...I think the intensity of P's work stem from the many layers applied.
wow. You are a truly truly bad artist. Yet I still consider you an artist. The child lorna is much better than you. The fact that the paint is on the wall. is just so wrong. The dripping wont work. THESE ARE NOT EVEN GOOD POLLOCK FAKES OR EVEN HOMAGES!
you are completely correct. pollock painted on the floor so he could walk around the canvas and engage the canvas from all points. furthermore, he did not throw the paint as i have shown. he used many tools (even a turkey baster) to drip the paint.
ya, i took your advice and made one of these in my bedroom and now my apartment managers is all like "what in freakin crap" so Im all like "ART! hello ever heard of it, sheesh" yeah

THESE ARE NOT EVEN GOOD POLLOCK FAKES OR EVEN HOMAGES!

anyone can make a pollock it requires no talent or skill.
Kurturmis 4 years ago
that thing isn't a Pollock. It's only a fake.
Pollock doesn't painted on the wall, but on the floor.
and the paint was dripped not throwed or splashed..
Boghy90 4 years ago
you are completely correct. pollock painted on the floor so he could walk around the canvas and engage the canvas from all points. furthermore, he did not throw the paint as i have shown. he used many tools (even a turkey baster) to drip the paint.
thanks for the comment.
