@rondophatton - your comment caused me to look up Dame Darcy and watch several DBD videos. While I agree the visual (and live) aesthetic may have some similarities, there is a demarcation regarding musicianship and lyrical content, which clearly favors Rasputina.

@IceDream yeah i agree apocalyptica and rasputina are completely different. apocalyptica sounds strictly metal. still talented but rasputina's music is more eclectic. their songs always make me feel like im reading something out of southern gothic literature

Her vocal skills are average without wide scale. Mostly she's playing with just a few grabs. Something like beggining guitarist.

Apocaliptica is so much harmonic, but also overrated. It's just a band.

You know, I find it rather remarkable what they can do with nothing more than two cellos and drums. They use cellos like no one else does; I mean, come on, who else puts distortion on a cello? I love groups that find inventive uses and sounds for instruments that way.

We shouldn't compare Apocalyptica and Rasputina. Both are very musical but they don't have much in common. Yes, they play cellos, but they write differently and they are different styles and musicians. Either way, both rock very hard. Melora is amazing!

Personally, I like both bands a lot; but you have to remember that their mission statements are totally different. Apocalyptica wanted to show that classical instruments could be used in metal. Melora Creager really just wanted to make a cello rock band.
