@kklloorrm We have a good 3800 students without the freshmen, and the band is about 630 people strong. Band is as high up on the Coolness Scale as varsity football here. :)

The last time you received State Champion was in 1988-89. Just where are your 6 state titles from? Because they dont show up in the Texas UIL Archives. As far as that goes, Allen has only won 2 state Championships. (87-88 & 88-89) What have you done since then? You were a 4A band then and not near as many members in the band. You have not gone to state as a 5A band. Congrats on the 2 but I dont see 6 any where.

It's really a shame that a band like this is allowed to compete against other area bands that actually MARCH and demonstrate foot technique. The playing field just doesn't seem level when it comes to grading the overall general effect of the performance.
I don't know of any high school bands that DON'T let just anybody in. Most HS bands require all of their members to be in the marching band, regardless of how bad they are.
Depends on the school, however i've never heard of trying out for marching band in HS. It's more common at large universities like UT who have student populations of over 50,000 and limit the band size to around 450. Allen HS would certainly benefit from auditioning their marching band though. If they reduced it to 400 they would still have one of the largest HS marching bands in the nation and their sound and marching would be a lot tighter.
These kids do have to try out for their spots, those that don't get to march are called "shadows" and shadow a person with a spot in case that person misses a performance!
for 4 grades, not bad. very huge. lol. I'm from Williams in Plano, and I feed into Plano East. if you take all 4 grades that combine into PESH, we have about the same amount as y'all (600 something...can't remember...lol. almost 700, i do know that). But that's out of 3 schools since we're so big, we can't fit into one. LOL.

yup...... but thats also why pesh did so well at so many competitions last year, because those plano bands only have 2 grades, thus better sound quality and experience, and no annoying freshmen/sophomores..........

But Plano was always knocking on your heels XD no offense to ya'll but your drill is much easier then the Plano/Plano East...but musically, still amazing!
Having dealt with this band this past weekend, I do hope they aren't ALL as rude as the ones we met. The whole ordeal was very sad. The time will come when someone, bigger and obviously better will put them in their place.

when i was in 8th grade, we had a 17 member hornline, 10 percussion, and 6 guard. freshman year, i marched with a different band, and we had a 45 member hornline, 20 percussion, and 16 guard.
talk about a huge jump! i'm marching with the same band this year and we only have 62 ppl this year.
haha its fun to read all these comments about us. im in this band and its amazing. i would never want to be in a smaller band.. were like a big family. theres a little less than 600 kids in our escadrille this year (this video is from 2 years ago) and my class size is about 1300. and yes getting off the field in time is very difficult. but yeah just wanted to let yall know a little about us!
p.s. - the crowds reaction to our waves in the stands is one of the best things about contest! :D
One year at the Mesquite Marching festival results were taking forever, so Allen started doing the wave in their bleachers. They took up an entire section, and had many coordinated waves. A few from corner to corner, one that went inside to out, top to bottom, left to right. Great stuff, great band.

My school--Plano West is playing them this friday. we're doing a west cluster concert, meaning we will have our 2 feeder schools on the field with us. we will be 2/3 that size.
We did our cluster game for East back in Sept. Whenever we do it, they always say that with all of us together, we make the biggest band in Texas, but I'm not sure how true that is... :/ At West, what do you do for Jasper kids? Do you only have the West feeding Jasper kids go, or all of Jasper?

It's very difficult sometimes to see how our director makes charts for us, but when he does come out with them, they are amazing. We are doing a space theme this year and so far it is fantastic.
There's no one on the other side of the stadium because it was a competition, not a football game. At competitions, there aren't even seats available on the other side because who wants to watch a show backwards any way?
They are pretty loud. It might be that the video doesn't give them enough justice. But at football games, they can always outplay the other band. :P Annoying a lot of the times.
Yeah, it's definitely the video. i saw them at a contest at Plano East and believe me-they're loud. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen from a marching band ever.
haha ours was a western them this year... (2007-2008) and it was fun we had t ostop marching and the whole band squatet XD then we had to do like 20 waves on the field! it was amazing!!!! and also each section got to choose their own little moves during the march lol
we had the trumbons(spl?) act like horses and the trupets go to throw their trupets up in the air. so cool!!!
yup yup! there was one time where we had to stop in the middle of the highschool almamter just so we owuldnt get a pently by the officals in one of football games. the band before us went into OUR time and that gave us only 9 minutes for a 12 minute show! we were so pissed lol
well its not that small of a town anymore. but here in allen u dont get to much made fun if ur in band cause practicaly every teen is in it! lol and trust me there are sooo many kids here too! Freshmen grads have over 1,200 kids in just that grade! so thats nothin lo

Haha, yeah, I've got it, but I haven't posted it yet. I've been gone for a while so I'll try my best to get it up tomorrow since I leave Sunday for it! This one kid in my school band plays sax, and I gave him the trumpet version so he played it with my on his soprano! :D Haha. I also gave it to my teacher who plays sax, but I never played my etude for him. :/
hmmm. if you look up "texas tech audition" i think.. it shows this sax player playing the music i have to learn. he's going a little over tempo and i like suck haha. i'm totally a procrastinator in EVERYTHING that i do :-\

yup yup! there was one time where we had to stop in the middle of the highschool almamter just so we owuldnt get a pently by the officals in one of football games. the band before us went into OUR time and that gave us only 9 minutes for a 12 minute show! we were so pissed lol

well its not that small of a town anymore. but here in allen u dont get to much made fun if ur in band cause practicaly every teen is in it! lol and trust me there are sooo many kids here too! Freshmen grads have over 1,200 kids in just that grade! so thats nothin lo

Haha, yeah, I've got it, but I haven't posted it yet. I've been gone for a while so I'll try my best to get it up tomorrow since I leave Sunday for it! This one kid in my school band plays sax, and I gave him the trumpet version so he played it with my on his soprano! :D Haha. I also gave it to my teacher who plays sax, but I never played my etude for him. :/

hmmm. if you look up "texas tech audition" i think.. it shows this sax player playing the music i have to learn. he's going a little over tempo and i like suck haha. i'm totally a procrastinator in EVERYTHING that i do :-\
