when i was a kid I am now 75 my family use to vacation at a place called Paris Lake which is not far from Perrys home town of Canonsburgh and my sister told me that I got a haircut from Perry when he was first a barber before he started his singing career.
comofan100 to me as a perry como fan he was the best. Sinatra came nowhere near Perry's voice, ,Sinatra's voice was rougher, he would not have sounded as good singing on his own without an orchestra.
This is the song that my dad used to sing when he would come stumbling drunk into the house. We knew he was plastered when he was singing this. Dad also had a great voice. God bless his heart. I miss him every day.
To all you pro wrestling fans: This was the #1 song in the USA when Andre Roussimoff came into the world (May 19, 1946). He would become famous as Andre the Giant.
Thank you for the upload. Nice song. I have a 4 disc vinyl set labeled "The Perry Como Library" that I bought in 1987 and it indicates that Till The End Of Time was recorded in 1944. Regards.
Yes Seledge, I get chills when I hear Perry Como singing this song. When he made this record in 1946 I was a 17 year old, in love with the man I would marry in 1947. We had 4 children and had a wonderful life. He died in 1986...too young...and I'm still a prisoner of his love. Thank you for posting, Trooper. OneKewpie.
Perry has been my favorite for 60+ yrs.His music is embedded in my soul;he was the most decent and gentile man you can imagine, and he lived by the rules.Thank you for this classic song.
It actually isn't bad considering it's not my type of music (im writing a historical fiction so that's why i was researching music) anyway i wanted to share my amusement. The on my knees to her im creeping... was indeed stalkerishly creeper hahhaha. but maybe i just have an odd sense of humor :P
This version is very, very nice but the much later, definitive version came in 1966 when it became a pop-crossover hit for James Brown, see James Brown-Prisoner of Love 1966 The Ed Sullivan Show---the same lyrics but a total different take from Perry, who sings about being a "prisoner," to James, who IS the "prisoner." Wonderful song...
Perry was probably the best Crooner of the 50's so relaxed on stage he sang effortlessly and never disappointed. He became one with the audience. As with so many that came up durning the height of the Sinatra era he never got the recognition he rightfully deserved. I like a lot of Sinatra material but what's right is right
@loungepianoman For about two decades Perry Como was every bit as well known as Sinatra, in part, because Perry had his own popular long-running television show. Late in both of their careers Sinatra's fame and reputation as an artist eclipsed Perry's for a variety of reasons. One, unfortunately, was because of Frank's more entertaining personal life, but another was because of Frank's (in my opinion) better and more sophisticated choice of material. Unlike Perry, Frank rarely did novelty songs.
@larrydonguy I hope you didn't misunderstand...I never meant to imply Perry was not well known I just think he should have had more recognition just like Jimmy Roselli which is a tragic story of the mis-directed strength of Sinatra
@larrydonguy True, Perry was an enormous star, and a weekly TV success, whereas Frank wasn't. But Frank turned out the much bigger star because of his volatile tabloid life, plus the fact that Frank was a film star, Perry wasn't. Although both were around the same age, Italian-American, East Coast, it's like comparing apples and oranges; they were quite different both professionally and personally.
Perry as usual does a magnicant job with this song. But I like Billy Ecksein's version better. I am a very large fan of Mr. Como and I love his voice.Just like Billy's better
I remember reading an article in the AARP magazine when he was interviewed back a while ago and he said he only regretted that the church he attened never asked him to join the choir
The original recording of ''Prisoner of Love'' by Perry Como hit no. 1 on the charts the first week of May 1946 -- and stayed in first place for three consecutive weeks.
here are my three favourite Perry Como records in no particular order..."Prisoner of Love", "No other Love", and " 'Til The End Of time" ...Those remaining two tracks will follow soon.
My favorite PC song ever. Wonderful.
