Yes, you must be a partner. And sorry, but you must be a partner. To become one, (which is extreamly hard) you must sign up for it somewhere. I think you have to go to YouTube's blog or something.

I just got offered partnership not half an hour ago. I never signed up for anything. Your videos need to be good, not just good in terms of a viewers standards (which is still vital btw) but impressive to youtube itself! If you get partnership it's most likely that youtube found your video to be good and so did you viewers. Also your vids need to be virtually flawless in a legal sense (no copyrighted video or music) and has to be made completely by yourself. Primarily it's your popularity on YT.

And btw I not's hard to get partnership. Compared to that charlie bit my finger thing Im unpopular! I've got just 7 subscribers!...7! and I was offered partnership with YT (Youtube) but I think it was the effort I put into my videos that won YT over! So if your wondering why you're not a partner, it could be copyright, popularity or the video hasn't caught the eye of Youtube..yet. Oh yes I also think timing is also a factor (in terms of news, the earlier the better!)

Nowhere. I did what everybody does. Post comments, video response, add friends post to facebook, thats it. I think YT noticed me when my video was used in a news article on a Danish website. (I would show you but for sum reason I cant post comments with URLs) It got 80 comments and 1000+ views overnight. That's not fantastic but YT noticed. It is true that its hard becoming a partner as YT are still asking me my rights to use the content on my video!
