I sometimes ask myself if the Somalis are suffering because of their unwavering stand against imperialism or they are too creative to come up with an order or they are just a bunch of poetically genius family who are also insane. I am amazed by how this poet who properly did not know any other language except his native Somali captured in metaphors the ugly greed of the west and the Vulnerability of the black continent to that limitless greed. Peace to Arees.
its a awesom video because it tells us about how somalia is treated and how the political vews change and it shows us how the two animals are fighting for the country
Adunyadu waayo ma leh..wanaag loogama iskado..nina kama buuxsho weel..samantana waa wareeer...wadaygey baa tahaye..aan waayo is wehlinee..walaloow ha i goyn wadnaha...by carays ciise kaashe ......luv it <3 <3 <3
the Wan-sheep represents Africa, and The hyena-waraabe represents the European colonial, the poets message is mostly a gospel after African countries gain their independence.
thats ancient somali right ? cuz i cant understand a thing and my somali is tip top. language change so i guess we wud have a hard time understanding somalis from 500years ago !!
the poet is using metaphor and animal imagery to describe the situation in Africa just after the European colonies ended. the Wan represents Africa whereas the Warabe is Europe. in Somali culture the hyena is portrayed as sneaky and opportunistic animal, so in this poem Careys Cise (AUN) skillfully shows us the deep ideological differences between the 2 animals, the wan wants the warabe to go n leave him alone bt the warabe has no intention of doing that instead the oppression continues till now
Thanks so much for the mini-analysis. Indeed, Careys Ciise was (and still is) the best Somali poet. Have you seen the "guymasi iyo gobanimo" one? It is also awesome :)
This is one of the best gabay I have ever hard therefor it would be nice if you'll jus look things from the writer of the poem he does not label or name anyone therefor we shouldn't name which is which ps it got nothing to do with somalia or somaliland
dowlad2008, what is got to do with Somaliland. I am from Xamar, but let me tell you this:The most patriotic pple in Somalia are the Somaliland pple. The british gave them a choice to be indepedent, from the rest of Somalia, and guess what...They refused and joined the south instead. haddana dhulkooda waa nabad, Ilaahay ha,usaaidiyo, anagana Ilaahay hana soo hanuuniyo. Wsalaamu-Calaykum..
Its actually a dialog between Somalia, represented with the 'wan' and the colonizers, represented here with the 'waraabe' :) Wowgii kale waxaan lahaa.. Haaheey!
that's true it's a conversation/ dialogue between Somali and the colonizers.. basically the Somali is saying get out of my country n the colonizer is saying otherwise... apparently this guy, the voice of the cartoons was a well respected poet in the 70s and died of a heart attack, go ask your parents...
I love my country. How do we still massacre each other. I have never seen that country but I feel the blood that runs through my veins is of the purest form. That of a human being. We are lucky to be blessed with amenities that far exceed plasma televisions and spinning rims. This poem is nothing more than a reminder of what could have been. . .when Europeans came they said, "Listen to the intelligence of the illiterates." It is time we return to form my people. InshaAllah.
I swear to the creater of the heavens and earth that this so so true and beautiful. I really consider Somalis one of the most intelligent people on earth, specially on the spoken words and way of thinking. However, we use our intelligence to our disadvantage.
I have been overcome by intense emotion of patriotism walahi. Though Carey ciise was a artistic lagend this particular geeraar shows his innovative and soomaalinimo. Great man; wise words.
