  • Good riddance to bad rubbish. This man is a liar and a looter.

  • Yes...let's do just continue the great old American pasttime of mean-spirited attack.

JUST KEEP IT UP. That this man has even considered going through this horrifyingly cruel and excruciating process of campaigning to serve this country is a miracle in an of itself. How I would love to take a look at this young man, his entire life and life's choices and do so with a huge magnifying glass--let's see, I'd like to do it in about 20 years, too. For that matter, let's do it now...

  • "You think about the words of the poet, Jay-Z."

LMAO! That James Dillard. I love his DTH column.

  • Everyone here is missing the point though... it was even spoken by one of those kids. 'Let's face it, a poor person can't run for president, that's just not how our political system works.' And you know what? He's absolutely right, and it absolutely sucks. I want all Democrat AND Republican politicians to be thrown to the wolves and people start electing based on capability, not popularity.

  • If this is all they can get on him, I think it speaks well of him. He can set up anywhere he wants to. please view searchword wilburjr-thanks.

  • Mr. Hann (Finance Intern for Edwards campaign) demonstrates how lairs work- and how well it works, since no one hears it.

Hann says: "the location [of the headquarters] shows Edwards is a canidate for the average person" later on he says: "I don't think that where you set up headquarters is immolatic of what your stance on the issues are."

Maybe he has a Dr. Strangelove condition- couldn't control what one side of the mouth was saying.

  • this really wasnt that bad. i have no idea why edwards campaign staff tried to squash this news report. he never had my vote so i guess it didnt really matter.

  • i think the more important thing here is the threats edwards has made if she doesnt take her piece down. hopefully america votes him as the next president so he can censor everything, and if we get lucky lower energy costs by burning books. way to go john, i didnt think it was possible to lose votes from chapel hill, but u found a way. CONGRATS!!!!

  • Wow, they were upset about that piece? A little sensitive, don't you think? She did present arguments on both sides, for sure.

If all reporting were that even, and all reporters that attractive ;-), maybe more people would watch the news.

  • What is it with you people that have to resort to the non sequitor attacks on the reporter? The comments about her accent (barely perceptable), where she points (the ground not her crotch), or her politics (indistinguishable) are fully laughable. This young woman is a college student doing what seems to me a credible (not perfect but credible) job of reporting for Carolina Week, the UNC Chapel Hill Department of Journalism news program.

  • SOME OF THE HEADLINES ACROSS THE U.S.

    JOHN "JOSEPH STALIN" EDWARDS

Edwards Campaign Threatens Journalism Student, College. Claim: Edwards staff tried to kill story.. Edwards Reportedly Sought to Kill Student's TV Story..

  • ha... John Edwards better get back to helping old black women put on their socks QUICK! That was the funniest clip I'd ever seen.

  • Edwards is just ANOTHER Limousine Liberal Elitist that talks out both sides of his mouth. DO as I say, not as I do.

  • "Poet" jay-Z.... now THAT'S a generous description. More accurate to call him a linguistic incompetent. But that's just me, nigga.... lol

  • credible sources DEFINITELY quote Jay-Z a lot. Edwards probably should have set up shop in the Def Jam office building.

  • apparently carla babb is just trying to continue the cycle of news media that doesn't focus on the issues at hand. why doesn't she take a look at how much money the other candidates are spending? or MAYBE she could cover something important? like the 46 million americans without health insurance? or the fact that migrant farm workers live in absolute squalor and receive barely any pay? carla babb is part of the next generation of journalists that is just going to let the public down.

  • No, we must continue to focus on that empty suit phony, little johnny edwards. Mega mansions and poverty, what a joke.

he should concentrate on: reducing the size of his wife's ass, and what he is going to do when he loses the nomination.

  • It goes deeper than that. It isn't focusing on trivia, it's attacking Edwards for breaking a nonexistent rule. Babbs claims she (or the right wing organ grinders whose monkey she is) are entitled to say where Edwards should have his campaign headquarters. She decides what she thinks he should do, and criticizes him for not doing it. She isn't entitled to say what he should do. It isn't a trivial issue, it's not an issue at all. She's telling us us about herself, not Edwards.

  • Wow, you mean we can't criticize Edwards for the location of his campaign headquarters in a wealthy neighborhood?

    Thanks for censoring us.

  • I think these people are just upset that Edwards is talking about poverty at all. If you're rich & support policies that support the rich, they have no problem with you. But if you dare try to do something about poverty, you will catch hell from these motherfuckers.

  • CrikeyAlexNick - "[T]hat hideous Southern accent" makes her "sound poor and uneducated"? Your clear (and incorrect) prejudice shows that you might want to worry more about your own education before critiquing others.

    [no comment about the video]

  • UNC is a state school....

And Edwards is a fake, lol.

  • Carla you are not a good reporter and no pantsuit will ever convince me otherwise. Stop speaking so quickly and learn to ar-ti-cu-late. Oh and lose that hideous Southern accent, it makes you sound poor and uneducated. But maybe that's what you were going for, as such an advocate for the poor.

  • An accent does not indicate anything about the level of one's education; the way a person speaks is not a reflection of how much they know or have learned. Some of the most educated people I know have thick accents, not necessarily Southern. Your ignorance reveals more about your education than her accents does for hers.

  • Let's talk about issues, not about crucifying a guy for his wealth. You can be successful in life and still care about those who are less fortunate. I can only hope that journalists like Carla find something substantive to contribute to the media coverage of a campaign, instead of recycling the same old themes and the same non-issues that contribute nothing to journalism, nothing to the voters, and absolutely nothing to the public dialogue.

  • Is this going to be another campaign where we talk about absolutely everything except the issues, so we can elect another dumbass we'd wanna have a beer with, rather than someone who can actually lead? This is a non-issue. How can the media read so much into irrelevant things? Imagine that, a rich guy who wants to care about the poor? Ever heard of the Roosevelts or the Kennedys? Exactly. Game, set, match.

  • Leader? How come he could not get re-elected in South Carolina? I think they were on to him.

  • Is Dillard a fucking dumbass? The poet Jay Z? First off, is there EVER going to be any substantive coverage of the Edwards campaign? I mean, can I hear anything about Edwards that doesn't involve the words "haircut", "mansion", or "fake"?

  • The 'award' is a part-time position with MTV for next year. It has yet to be awarded, but nice job making it up.

  • next to guliani, Edward has done more for the poor than most presidential candidates..

  • TOTALLY! If I'd busted my ass for the last 30 years to get to the top I'd buy a house in DURHAM. The armpit of NC.

  • George H W Bush"

"In the next century, nations as we know it will be obsolete; all states will recognize a single, global authority. National sovereignty wasn't such a great idea after all."

"we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States" Memoirs, p405, CFR CEO David Rockefeller:

    Obama Romney Clinton Giuliani Edwards

    Thompson, all CFR members

    "Timeline to Tyranny",

    Terrorstorm 2h

  • Hey, Jackass, why would anyone PUBLISH that they are working for a "secret cabal"?? GH Bush was Dir of the CIA, he isn't THAT fuckin' stupid, whereas, you obviously are.

  • hottest reporter ever

  • Her stats at Edwards site states she was had by Bill Clinton seven times in just one short afternoon! Yes, this is on hot liberal bitch. Hell, she is even hotter than Miss Sassy her ownself. Oh that's the stage name John Edwards uses in his drag shows.

  • It matters where headquarters is it doesnt matter where headquarters is ...the Hahn guy is confused.

    So is Edwards...

  • Other than making a killing as a lawyer, getting $400.00 haircuts, and building a multi-million dollar house, what exactly qualifies this person to be anything beyond county commissioner? Any vote for him is a wasted vote. The people in this country are mostly dumb, but they are not stupid.

  • You failed to recognize that Johnny Girl wants to do away with the two Americas- under his eagle-eye leadership there will no longer be haves and have-nots, only have-nots! (and he will rule like a big fat king!)

  • While I disagree with the video (I'm sure Obama and Clinton have headquaters in "well-to-do" office parks), Edwards has lost all of my support because of his campaign employees' efforts to squelch the video. He might be for the poor, but he's certainly not for free speech

  • Hahn contradicts himself right in the video. His first quote is about how the location of the HQ shows he's a candidate for everyone, not just DC. But in quotes 2 and 3 he dismisses the importance of location in the context of affluence!

  • I work in TV news and this report would be considered fair and balanced by most news agencies standards. (Not FOX News)This is really pretty tame-if Edwards is demanding this report be pulled and making threats against the University over this - what kind of crap is he willing to pull if the press actually criticized him.

  • Criteria119, it only takes a 3 second google search to realize that the quote "Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated." is misattributed to Ms. Sanger, which is a rumor probably started by an anti-abortion group LEARN.

  • Liberals always claim to know what is best for the impoverished and blacks. You want to keep people at a certain level and no more. Liberal democrats are worse than Nazis because they don't even use violence to get over on you. An example of this is Margaret Sanger, the good liberal and founder of Planned Parenthood who said, "Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated." Let the frauds be exposed.

  • What does is matter where he puts his campaign headquarters??? Dumb.

These Republican are in straight up panic mode right now. Finding dumb stuff to report on. Let's see a video reflecting how many Americans are dying in this useless war.

  • liberast's version of freedom of speech:

Freedom of speech is when you agree with me.

Edwards, leave the kids alone. Shame on you.

    Terrorstorm 2h, "Timeline to Tyranny"

  • If I could get any offensive material about me yanked....

But I though this report was VERY professional and it does raise an interesting question. If you're trying to bridge a divide between classes, is an affluent neighborhood the best place to set up headquarters?

But this logic is also coming from a man who spent way too much for a haircut...

  • It's not from Fox News. But why watch it yourself and ruin it with facts?

  • DO NOT REMOVE THIS VIDEO.

  • This is so obviously Fox News propaganda. Were does Romney have HQ? Oh yeah its Canada Light aka the North East yet many people think he is a champ of right wing. you people are wackos.

  • As a Chapel Hill resident, I am embarassed that this hypocritical pres. candidate put his headquarters in my town. How well does he get along with his 'poor' neighbors? He doesn't, nor does his family.

...now truth, however harmless, is testing his relationship with UNC.

Practice what you preach, Johnny. You are transparent.

....can't get over that $400 haircut; us 'poor' folk need $15 and some gel. Same result; it's not like he needs an engineer to maneuver his head.

  • Thanks again, John, for stifling free speech in our country. John Edwards doesn't own a tazer, does he?

  • 1) Ditzy blonde gets a bad idea for a report. 2) Actually does a good job with it, getting decent quotes from the people she interviews. 3) Jay-Z gets some props 4) young campaign worker comes off as intelligent and insightful and points out the stupidity of the original idea. 5) The campaign he's working for wants to ban the report.

    Ain't politics grand?

  • the poet jay-z?

now that is a young man with true journalistic standards.

    tool.

  • Ok ill sum up this vid in 3 statements. 1. Edwards is wrong for the job. Everyone knows he is a power hungry Puppet.2. Karla has nice breasts so why does she get sent to NC to do a story on someone no one cares about?3. The little c@cksmoker looks like he is more than just friends with John Edwards.

  • Hmmm, I think you're telling us a lot more about yourself than about Edwards.

The video told us that Edwards's campaign headquarters is in Chapel Hill. All these things you say tell us about your own sense of your own inadequacies. (Not that you are unjustified in feeling inadequate. . .)

  • M.I.T.U. has it right on the money. Edwards is a tool, who cares where he tried to base his campaign out of "trying to relate to the middle and poor classes like he cares. He SUCKS and Ron Paul 2008 Rules.

  • Hmmm...it was probably a stupid idea to make a big deal over this story. I certainly wouldn't have bothered to look at this youtube video if it weren't for the controversy.

Not defending Edwards (by any measure) but that Daily Tarheel reporter guy who is chastising Edwards for his location is really bothersome. Why is a reporter weighing in with that much opinion?

  • Edwards can demand this story be taken off youtube all he wants. The first Amendment says otherwise! You really think this guy is right for the job of president if he supports censorship?

  • Whats the deal with Edwards and his hair anyway? Are we supposed to take this goof serious? Maybe on some kind of reality show or something, but not as...never mind, this is hopeless.

  • Oh, it's simple. Edwards worked and earned money, and spent it on things he chose to spend it on, including grooming.

Now I know that your panhandling money may not stretch so far as paying for haircuts, but if you ever manage to collect enough money, there is something called soap. . .

  • Funny! An Ewards asskisser!

  • By the way, who said anything about money? Pay attention and people won't think you're such a dumb ass.

  • You asked what the deal was with Edwards and his hair and I told you. He earned money and spent some of it on grooming. That's how American society usually works. Edwards is entitled to spend his money on grooming if he wants, just you are entitled to spend your money on soap (and I'm sure that your fellow panhandlers would appreciate it if you did).

  • Fuck UNC. GO WOLFPACK!

  • Carla attended undergrad at State ... she was a student-athlete.

  • Let the Breck Girl sue me. I'll have him sobbing when I depose him during discovery.

  • Edwards is a sue machine. He is trying to sue his way to the presidency.

  • Now you did it! You've screwed up. The John Edwards campaign has your IP address and is going to sue your ass into oblivion.

  • Carla,

Keep up the good work. This country needs true journalists who won't take crap from either political party. The majority of both political parties don't care about the rest of the country except when it comes time to vote.

  • Edwards only spent $6 million of his lawsuit winnings on that horrible dump? He should sue the builders and the doctors who gave his wife cancer. He should also promise to sue every Dem that doesn't vote for him over Hillary, then everyone that votes GOP over him in the general election.

  • I agree. He should sue everybody, or at least threaten to sue. Threatening to sue can often avoid actual lawsuits later... something greedy scumbag lowlife-lawyers know very well.

I think he should definitely sue whoever leaked that $400 haircut story.

  • Riding the backs of the poor to fame and power is as old as humanity. The only difference here is that Edwards is so tactless and transparent, that this has become a public joke rather than an inside joke.

  • You are trying to smear him with this piece of fluff. You want to see "fancy?" Come up here to Washington DC sometime. Chapel Hill is just a sleepy little southern town compared to DC.

  • DC is fancy? Check out the DC ghettos sometime. Real fancy, Rosy.

  • Much of DC is very affluent, especially downtown and on K Street. Sure there are ghettos too. I was born in DC and have lived here all my life.

  • So you helped re-elect that crack head mayor Marion Barry back in the day? How many years did Washington DC reign as the murder capital?

Why don't you come to the city instead of live in the same affluent neighborhood of the likes that John Edwards is accustomed to?

  • Edwards should sue UNC-Chapel Hill and YouTube for everything he can get.

  • Very thin story. Very 2 dimensional. You need to beef it up with some more interviews. What did the Edwards camp have to say about it?

  • They filed a cease and desist letter with the threat of "suing the pants" off these people.

John Edwards could not be reached for comment because he had an appointment with his hair stylist.

  • Um, keep lying, idiot.

  • Um, go fuck yourself.

  • This moron just quoted "the Poet" Jay-Z ?? John Edward's wealth does not prevent him from understanding and helping to alleviate poverty in our country. This is just one issue. Should his campaign HQ relocate to a empty building on Franklin Street?? Who the hell cares where his HQ is? Southern Village is really not that upscale compared to Meadowmont or Governor's Club in Chapel Hill.

  • Well, there was a black guy answering the phone (probably on a break from making the coffee), but maybe you were referring to Republicans. Anyway, here's some more prose by the Hip Hop Laureate:

What'cha gonna do to me Nigga, scars or scab

What'cha gonna box me hommie, I can dodge your jab

Three shots couldn't touch me, thank god for that

I'm strong enough to carry Biggie Smalls on my back

And the whole B.K. nigga holla back

    Sublime.

  • I love how the liberals have to personally attack the reporter who really did produced a balanced piece. Again, the questions I have for the Edwards camp is why didn't they put there campaign headquarters in Durham and why didn't I see any minorities working in that campaign office. So much for being for the poor.

  • Expect an angry and threatening from John Edward's campaign staff threatening to sue you off the internet for your inflammatory comments.

  • Looks like she just sealed a deal with FOX news. They'll love this kind of controversy. Besides what other college journalism major will be able to say they had over 100,000 views on You Tube on their resume tape.

  • "....one of those blonde college Republicans of the type who end up filling junior appointee positions in the Bush administration..."

Name 10 for starters. If you persist in criticising this fine young piece of skirt, you will feel the full force of my wrath.

  • Regardless of the relevance of this piece (which, in my mind, has no relevance at all), this girl really needs a vocal coach if she ever hopes to make it as a tv journalist. The professional look that I think she is trying for is ruined by that horrid valley-girl voice.

  • What, pretty boy can't take a little scrutiny over the location of his campaign headquarters?

If you don't like the video, don't try to force her to take it down. Make one of your own, refute it, but don't try to banish it to the memory hole.

  • This isn't journalism. It's a pathetic hatchet-job by one of those blonde college Republicans of the type who end up filling junior appointee positions in the Bush administration. This video is so phony. "Opinions are split." What a bunch of crap. Just like "opinions are split" on global warming, huh?

  • Absolutely. Opinions are split on global warming.

  • Opinions aren't split according to the enviro-nazis.

I volunteer to end the CO2 emissions from any environazi I meet and they always decline my kind offer. I'm trying to help save the earth, one liberal at a time!

  • He can't put his business where he wants to,

he can't build the size house he wants,

he can't run for president because his wife has cancer....

    he can't

    he can't

    he can't

    blah blah blah

    SSDD

  • Its amazing that Edwards campaign issued threats if this story was not removed. They made a mountain out of a molehill. This report was actually quite balanced with views from both sides.

  • This shows John Edwards exactly who he is! A loser.

  • The $400 haircut was what killed it for me. This latest, trying to censor a college journalism student, I just blame on his communications people. They sound inexperienced.

  • Democrats expect "groupthink" from UNC students. The outrage here is that someone broke ranks and expressed an individual opinion. Shame on Edwards.

  • Yeah it's safe to say that opinions are split. Great fricking way to end a piece on politics.

And that honkey muppet who needs a haircut: the poet Jay-Z?? If that doesn't speak to the paucity of liberal American culture, nothing ever will.

  • watch my vid the greatest soccer trick ever

  • matt drudge didnt make this a story

john edwards staff made this a story.

i love when people attack a media source rather than discuss the topic of the story.

  • I sent this to his headquaters:

Dear North Carolina Edwards' Campaign, I had been struggling with which of two candidates to support; John Edwards or Hillary Clinton. Thank you for helping me make up my mind. Your attempt to act as a censor on Carla Babb's report on Carolina Week so blatantly infringed on and endangered freedom of the press that I had to remove Edwards from any consideration for the Presidency. Your fellow citizen, Dan Smith

  • Carla Babb should apply for FAUX news!

  • When I see or listen to John Edwards, the only word that comes to mind is ... smarmy. He is every Baptist preacher and used car salesman I have ever seen, all rolled into one.

  • It really is impressive to see all of these DRUDGE REPORT readers posting comments blasting a candidate who dares to raise issues that corporate elites don't want discussed. These commenters are the foot soldiers of the G.O.P. effort to tear down a candidate with personal attacks so they don't have to debate him on issues. Also good to see Matt Drudge calling his faithful to the cause.

  • No it does not have to do with a plane crash. See thats a song, its from the 80's. Its basically about how reporters are out for personal gain with consideration for anything but them self. I do believe she is trying to point out some hypocrisy in her report by using Edwards campaign location as a basis of conflict in what he has stated he supports. In reality you can point out all Politicians to be Hypocrites if you look hard enough.

  • You are Karla Bab alright! What a piece of crap!! John Edwards is the only candidate that is running for every American!! Wake up little girl!!

  • John Edwards may be running FROM as many people as he can. He damn sure is not running for me. Having had to endure his violation of his oath of office and its implied contract with the people of North Carolina I have no use for him.

Will he use his status as President to begin a campaign for Secretary General of the UN or a position on at the International Court in the Hague?

  • Ok here is whats really wrong with this. Don't wear high heals when doing a walking intro. Your head is bobbling and thats very annoying.

I Bet she can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye.

  • Okay, if you are so observant what was/were the topic(s) of the report? BTW this report had absolutely nothing do do with any plane crash(s).

  • John Edwards made his fortune chasing ambulances. He used this wealth to get elected to the U.S. Senate where he was our, North Carlina's faux senator for 2 of the 6 years he was elected to serve.

Now his campaign is in a political ambulance in critical condition. All of a sudden 'ambulance chasing' is disallowed.

Why did he not set up his headquarters in downtown Durham or Raleigh where he could be more accessible to the people he CLAIMS to represent and will fight for?

  • What was Carla Babb thinking? If you want to get on MTV, you need to exposed republicans not democrates. If she when after Hillary she'd be done for. She must be too young to know the media works for the Democrates and they get to kill the whatever stories they want.

  • "Attack the man, not his ideas." -- Carl Rove

Babb and her GOP friends are doing a rather transparent smear job. Let's not talk about Edward's record of programs he's proposing. Hopefully Fox "News" will be all over this report, as the rightwing websites are. Bravo, Carla Blab Limbaugh!

  • Why do liberals always want to suppress free speech instead of dealing with criticism like adults?

  • When John Edwards had that affair, was it with a rich woman, or a poor woman? That's what I want to know.

  • Those who call Edwards a phony are just repeating the talking points of the corporate-elite robber-baron Republicans. They want to discredit Edwards personally so that they don't have to answer his arguments. Big-Money Republicans fear nothing more than having to run a presidential campaign against John Edwards that would expose Republicans for the economic elitists they are.

  • Good job, interesting story, thanks Carla etal.

Edwards interests me but he loses points if he trys to muscle this off Utube and/or keep it off the air.

If Edwards is smart (he is) he will roll with this "TAKE their point and set up some junior centers ASAP in other centers like Clinton did in Harlem.

  • for a man who wants to "help the poor" then why didn't he set up in durham which is 15-20 minutes away which is one of the poorest areas in the triangle.

  • DO NOT PULL THIS VIDEO! Keep it up!

  • Edwards is just another phony, rich, snobbish attorney-turned politician that's getting exposed! Way to go! He has ZERO chance of winning the election! I wouldn't vote for him if he were the ONLY candidate IN the US!

  • Wait, so the same person says "the location shows that Edwards is a candidate for the average person" (20 seconds into the story) and "I don't think that where you set up your headquarters is emblematic of what your stance on the issues are [sic]." Which is it?

  • Edwards represents the worst of Washington DC--hypocritical legislators. It looks like Hahn has been drinking the Edward's Kool-aid. Diller, on the other hand, understands that our society needs people to make money to help others, rather than to divide the two Americas with class warfare. Edwards is a disgusting example of Washington DC Elite.

  • edwards is such a fucking idiot he still thinks he has a chance in hell with this campaign? What will it take for him to figure this one out? Go home, play with your hair or something.

  • 81,000 views in 3 days! Nice job in shutting it down, Edwards campaign. This one is going viral baby!

  • Much ado about nothing. A silly report by an amateur. John Edwards would do more for poor folks and the middle class than any other candidate.

  • Anyone who actually investigates the John Edwards campaign will find he makes actions that garner publicity in forgotten places of poverty and hardship. Columbus, Kentucky, for example. Or the 9th Ward. That his campaign headquarters is in his hometown instead of just off K-Street in DC is hardly salacious or hard-hitting.

  • You do not live in my community of Carrboro, NC. People here know exactly what the virtually-gated community of Southern Village is; it ain't a place you'll find anything remotely described as "poverty." People here don't understand why he didn't choose a location closer to his home that is also closer to the local lower-class.

  • do those people who wonder that LIVE in the "lower class" (your term)areas? no? and i can bet you the people who do wouldn't want to set up shop there either.

i love how people expect so much more from SOMEONE else, but not from themselves..

  • I think you misread my comment.

  • Ya'll are wasting your time and money with Edwards. He doesn't have a chance against Hillary or Obama. Spend your time and money doing something useful, like trying to help alleviate poverty.

  • A sad statement of American politics when the location of a campaign headquarters or the cost of a hair cut outshine the issues facing our country. I agree it was unnecessary to try to pull the video. The location seems reasonable for its purpose. It is an incorrect perception that because you have wealth you have to give it away to make a statement. Please get to know what the the candidate is for or against. Does it make sense for our country? Can they get it done. Then decide and VOTE!

  • The problem with this reporting is that it is actually well rounded. The facts are true. Both sides are allowed to state their opinion on the facts. Maybe the Edward's campaign doesn't like the facts!!! sorry John. If you think it makes you sound bad then do something about the facts...not the reporting of them.

  • Wow, anyone who thinks this is a hit piece must only watch puff journalism. This is someone interviewing basically a off-center newspaper editor on why the college alternative paper has a negative view of being there. And Edwards is represented by an opposing view who favors Edwards. Edwards called more attention to it by trying to quash then it would have otherwise. And for all that, it's still a puff piece.

  • The intended audience of this report was the UNC undergraduates. The report is made by an undergraduate interviewing other undergraduates and shown on the undergraduate channel.

  • This wasn't even that bad, the John Edwards camp was trying to silence this? sheesh

  • What is he insincere about? I hear him called a phony. What is he phony about? People can throw around all of these adjectives for Edwards, but can't back them up with, you know, those "fact" things. I like how all of a sudden this woman found 2 people who disagreed, and this is a split opinion in the town? Please, this is just poor journalism in the least, and repeating a republican talking point at the worst.

  • I wonder how many reports on poverty, Babb has done, or has this sudden intrest sprung up for her own particular agenda?

What it shows me is how shallow so many college students are today, and how little understanding of the realities and empathy they have for the poor. They seek to exploit such issues for their own gain rather than actually addressing those issues.

  • I live in Carrboro, NC and can tell you that this is an issue. The issue is that a politcian citing his main plank as assisting the poor is out of touch with the poor. Southern Village was intentially developped so that its residents would not be in contact with the local poor population. John Edwards could have easily found a location closer to our disadvantaged residents.

  • This report by Carla Babb, and the other student are attempting to discredit Edwards based on a faulty premise. If we accept their premise, then perhaps we should doubt the sincerity of the student's report because they attend an expensive, prestigious university.

  • this is another non-story. i used to live in chapel hill. i'm not sure what the point of this piece is. southern village is NOT, let me repeat, NOT some gated community. it's just a normal, everyday, place where anyone can go. i do not understand this "controversy"

oh, and yeah, turn the sound down, her voice is grating to the nerves

  • I agree with you about the (un)importance of the story itself, but, on the bright side, I think her presentation was very professional.

  • yep, i gotta agree. i was actually surprised at how "well done" the piece was.

  • You must not watch the news very much. Unless you count Entertainment Tonight and Hard Copy as news.

  • I live in Carrboro. Southern Village is a virtual-gated community by design. The roads in and out of the community do not lead anywhere other than the main state routes. You're not going to find any people of poverty anywhere near Southern Village. Why didn't Edwards choose a location, say, closer to the North Side neighborhood--closer to his on-campus office?

  • Edwards is a blood sucking Lawyer and only the dumb, lazy, and Democrate looking for the biggest social hand-out will vote for this wimpy fruit cake!

  • Does this mean Edwards can count on the poet vote?

  • He put the campaign headquarters in the wealthy area because that is where the money is. You have to be rich to run and so the country is run by the rich, of the rich and for the rich. I can't blame a rich man for playing the rich man's game. I hope he is sincere but the $400 haircut got me. That could feed 400 people in Africa for a day. Public funding of campaigns is the only answer.

  • I was surprised when I heard Edwards' headquarters was in Southern Village as well. There are many empty shops in downtown Chapel Hill that he could have taken, making his campaign very visible to students and everyone visiting the area... but then there would have been homeless people outside & that may have been awkward, right?

  • Excellent, you have a future!

    Chili

  • The worst part about Edwards is his vanity. People complain that Bush isn't on the ball, but at least we can count on him to get ready in a reasonable amount of time without a lot of unnecessary primping and posturing.

  • A couple hundred views before Edwards got snippy. 53 thousand after. Methinks he wants any kind of attention he can get at this point.

  • Haha... the 'poet' Jay-Z

  • Back to the video itself: Just for fun turn off the sound and use the pause/play button to watch it frame by frame. Whatch her facial expressions.

  • Seriously. See who is hypocritical.

  • Bravo! What would we do without Google?

  • Nice story. Well done.

  • Google JonahCruise.

  • I really don't like Edwards, but if you used the word "elitist" is your comment, you aren't expressing an original thought. You got that from either a television or radio pundit. If you can't think for yourself then you can't have an opinion.

  • Elitist is a word that perfectly describes Edwards. I could add hypocrite, Marxist, Socialist, empty suit, etc., but then you'd still accuse me of being void of self-thought. The truth is, liberals are the ones that are brainwashed and can't think for themselves. Without government, most of you liberals would be lost... then again even with the government you are.

  • Edwards is your typical elitist liberal- always talking out both sides of his mouth and never leading by example. If the Edwards' team was upset by this fairly balanced piece what does that say about their ability to withstand the scrutiny of the White House press corp. This man is nothing more than an empty suit whose policy and positions are governed by polls and not conviction. Hopefully 2008 will be the last we have to hear of him.

  • Elitist Edwards only offers hopelessness and helplessness to those he labels the underclass. His arrogance is truly transparent.

  • Please note I didn't engage in any bashing or name-calling. This is an important time for us to be WATCHING & LISTENING to all the candidates. Edwards currently holds the most interest for me personally, but it's early in the game & I'm still listening to all of them, Democrats AND Republicans. We'll learn much more about John Edwards from how he handles his staff's screw-up than from the quasi-news story that triggered it.

  • John Edwards is hypocritical trash. 1.) He publically condemns Murdoch's organization while accepting $900K for a book advance 2.) He has made his millions by suing OB/GYN's. 3.) He certainly doesn't live by example. He's had that one West Coast haircut for $1200 and his "regular" ones of $400. His active participation in a mutual fund that foreclosed on poor people in New Orleans after Katrina.

  • Typical for a limo liberal. Edwards feels guilty for having so much money, but not guilty enough to give it back.

  • I'm still appalled the Dems blew the last 2 elections, won't be surprised if they blow the next & despair at the 14 yrs of partisan paralysis since Bill Clinton took office while Rome burns ever hotter. John Edwards proposes an intelligent, coherent agenda to fix our nation's critical problems. The story is drivel & should've been ignored. If Edwards' camp indeed tried to kill it, he should quickly & PERSONALLY repudiate their idiocy & make clear it doesn't reflect his views on free press.

  • good points. It is really stupid for these kids to be judging a candidate by the quality of the turf around his HQ. Id wager these kids have never been in the ghetto, where they think Edwards should set up shop.John probably would, indeed, repudiate the actions of his staffers if they conflicted with his views on free press

  • does it really matter? he doesn't have a chance anyway. but, he is a hypocrit. we just need to make sure hillary doesn't get in, otherwise we are all screwed.
