(this is continuing what i said before) that being said datsyuk could be a lot better on offense if he played that way but hes a 2-way player and dominates both ends, in my opinion thats makes him the best player in the league hands down, defense is just underrated. plus he can dangle better than anyone, playmake very well, and he has a shot so its not like he lacks offense at all, hes just not as aggressive. that's how i see it..
okay first between ovechkin and crosby, i like ovie more but i think sids better. ovie uses individual efforts and power to generate a scoring chance, it works sometimes but good teams kill you when you try to force a play. last year he led the league in shots like every year but didnt score as much at all, thats pretty bad. crosby however is the best offensively in the league, he can score without many shots so the team doesnt have to create a lot of chances to put points up, and he can pass.
@Bernsy no, he's a trophy chaser and that's all he'll ever be. he's in it for himself and doesn't think about the team. i want players who understand that no single player is bigger than the team. i've never gotten the feeling about him that he thinks that way. besides, he completely disappears in the playoffs.
ok. for everyone who is lipping crosby or datsyuk. DON CHERRY, the king of tough hockey, admitted crosby does not whine or dive anymore. lots of players do in their early years. he has the 4th highest points per game average of all time at 1.36, so he is obviously not too bad. datsyuk is the best two way player in the league, and the best since stevie Y. he has won the selke as the best defensive forward, and has put up back to back 97 point seasons. THEYRE BOTH RUTHLESS
woow i'm a wings fan and i cant believe they made a commercial for him considering everyone always over looks datsyuk and zetterberg for that matter who are the two best all around players in the nhl
@dannyxt then how come they're overal.. i'm not saying pure goal scoring but overal the best players in the league and they're never even thought of to be mvp it's because they're overlooked and the NHL has to make sure crosby and ovechkin are happy
@Bomob19 You gotta love the scouting by Holland. The wings know how to pick em thats for sure. They will and have never needed 1st overall picks like crosby or ovechkin. They always make such amazing picks in the draft
@KashiwaDaisuke Datsyuk has been in the league for 8 seasons. Crosby and Ovechkin have been in the league for 5 seasons each. If you read, you would see that I wrote combined, so that means Crosby and Ovechkin combined have 10 seasons where Datsyuk himself has 9 season. 10 seasons is more than 9. Datsyuk has 2 cups, Ovechkin and Crosby combined has 1. 2 cups is greater than 1. I think i dumbed it down enough for you to read.
Alright, but that's still a moot point. Yzerman didn't win a Cup with the Wings until he was 32 and he was a better player than Datsyuk.
Also, I believe Crosby and Ovechkin have a trophy case that is a lot more packed than Datsyuk's. I love Datsyuk as a player, but I find it moronic that people like you shoot down the NHL's young talent just to appear cool and against the current. What's next, are you going to shoot down Stamkos?
@KashiwaDaisuke Ever noticed how every commercial is of Crosby or Ovechkin?Everybody except those teams' fans are sick of them being shoved down their throats and are going to hate them. You cant hype 2 guys in a league like everyone else sucks. There is tons of talent like Iginla, Sedin, Lidstrom, Richards, etc. and I have yet to see these guys in any ad or comercial. So many people wouldnt hate these 2 if they werent in every part of the NHL but Crosby still whines too much, not much leadership.
@2010chubbs It's called marketing techniques, retard. The sponsors and NHL chairmen know that they will make the most revenue by advertising the league's two biggest talents to draw in fans in the US. It's all part of Bettman's plan to make hockey a non-fringe sport.
@KashiwaDaisuke So we want a league full of stupid fans that know nothing of the sport except for 2 guys because they saw them on a commercial?Wow what great marketing.Do you really think when people see a commercial of "some guy" named "Crosby" theyre gonna think to themself "That reminds me, I think my city has a hockey team." Ive got an idea of a great marketing technique of how to bring in millions of fans. Lets move the southern teams back to Canada! Sounds foolproof and it might just work!
@2010chubbs What? I'm just telling you how the NHL's marketing works, which you obviously didn't fully comprehend. It's like the NBA advertising Lebron and Kobe.
@KashiwaDaisuke Heres what you wrote "It's called marketing techniques, retard. The sponsors and NHL chairmen know that they will make the most revenue by advertising the league's two biggest talents to draw in fans in the US. It's all part of Bettman's plan to make hockey a non-fringe sport." Your saying advertising these 2 is the best way to make revenue. How in the hell does that change whether new people will watch. Move the teams back to Canada if you want to make the most money.
@2010chubbs Yeah, give Winnipeg a second chance. I'm sure they won't go bankrupt again... maybe...
Also, advertising a Crosby vs. Ovechkin matchup on ESPN or Versus has been proven to get the highest ratings time and time again. That's just how it is. If you want to draw in viewers, advertise your best young players.
@KashiwaDaisuke Phoenix is bankrupt, Pittsburgh was I think bankrupt, if not they were on the brink, hasnt been a problem when Bettmen comes to your aid. If they really wanted high viewer ratings, get the country that created the game involved
@2010chubbs Your shitty opinion is wrong. Crosby vs. Ovechkin gets the highest ratings, whether you like it or not. And yeah, Pittsburgh was on the brink until they got Malkin and Crosby.
@KashiwaDaisuke This is my last post because Im sick of getting these emails, its like spam.Im entitled to my opinion just as much as you are to yours. Were obviously not going to jump the line to agree with the others opinion so Im just ending it here. Most likely your going to say "Your just saying that because you dont know what to say" or "you know im right". If you want to think that,go ahead,I dont give a shit.Im not going to argue about something stupid like this with somebody i dont know
@2010chubbs What's next? It's your "opinion" that 2 + 2 = 3 and you're entitled to it? I'm just stating the facts, sir. People generally eat up the Crosby vs. Ovechkin "rivalry" and that's just how it is.
@KashiwaDaisuke hes not shhoting them down hes just making a perfect point datsyuk is way better than ovechkin and crosby. stamkos is better than crosby and ovechkin ever thought of being. but datsyuk is better than stamkos by a little.
@apdanglez What? Datsyuk, better than Crosby and Ovechkin? Stamkos, better than Crosby and Ovechkin?
You, sir, know jack shit about hockey. Crosby and Ovechkin are without a doubt the two best players in the NHL today. Just ask any NHL player or analyst.
@2010chubbs the kid kashiwadaisuke is retarded you have a good point im from detroit im so lucky i get to watch datsyuk every night. datsyuk should have 3 cups but bettmans gay ass gave the cup to crosby. therefore combined they should have 0 and datsyuk have 3. the best player in the league by far.
@burritochampi If you read the comments, you would see I already talked about this. He came into the league when he was 24 so that 9 years ago in 2001-2002, subtract the lockout and thats 8 seasons. Crosby came in after the lockout so he has 5 seasons. Not too skewed. For as much hype as Crosby gets, I have yet to see him perform. Every game I see him against the Red Wings, he hardly does anything. Ive probably seen 1 goal and about 3 assists. Its either we have a good defense or hes too hyped.
@2010chubbs i hate detroit. i'm a leafs fan, then a penguins and flames fan. but i admit the wings are one hell of a team, and have arguably the best defense, in forwards and defenders. lidstrom, rafalski, stuart, kronwall, draper, maltby, zetterberg, and datsyuk are all amazing defenders. and normally they have their best on crosby, arguably the best offensive player in the league. the huge reason why malkin is so successful is because he is overlooked because of the attention on crosby
@2010chubbs Too hyped? Crosby and Ovechkin both scored over 100 points on their rookie seasons, something that happens once every blue moon. They aren't even in their primes yet. Your beloved Datsyuk (not knocking on him, I love him as a two-way player) has never cracked 100 points and he's already slightly past his prime.
Give credit where it's due, please. Crosby and Ovechkin will have plenty of time to earn the Cup between 25 and 30 years of age.
@KashiwaDaisuke Did I say Ovechkin and Crosby sucked? Ovechkin is one hell of a player, doesnt whine, doesnt dive, gives good hits. Only thing bothers me about him, he celebrates way too much. I dont care how you celebrate if the goal was great, at a crucial time, or monumental, but if the the score is 3-0 and you score in the 2nd period on the PP to give your team a 4-0 lead, theres no need to jump into the glass and go crazy. This isnt soccer...goals happen all the time.
Crosby, I think is a great player also but he bothers the hell out of me. His rookie season, HE was the team. Look at the points by player...he had 102, next player, John LeClair with 51 and then Malone with 44. Looks to me like he did all the work. Put Datsyuk on the Florida Panthers, he would have 100+. Datsyuk also plays defensively alot more so its going to cut into his points. Before Bowman told Yzerman he had to play more defensive, Yzerman put up 100+ points.
@2010chubbs I know you didn't say they suck. You said they're overhyped. While they certainly aren't modern-day Gretzkys and Lemieuxs like some people had hoped, they're the best young talents we've got right now. Their trophy cases are jam packed for players in their early 20s, so I would say their hype is justified.
Anyway, Crosby had whining issues during his first few seasons and Ovechkin had showboating issues until just recently. They're both maturing and I hope they keep it that way.
@KashiwaDaisuke Didnt Sedin just lead the league in points and Stamkos tie with Crosby for goals? I never hear about the Sedins or Stamkos. I know the NHL is using them to attract fans but respect is due for others. Yeah Datsyuk had an off year this year and I dont expect him to get that much credit.
@2010chubbs and finally, both sedins were on track for 110 point seasons, before daniel was injured for 15 games. they have the best chemistry in the league, but each plays with another superstar. crosby plays by himself often, and did in his rookie campaign. ovechkin does play with one of the best playmakers in the league, nicklas backstrom. stamkos is amazing, but plays with st. louis. if crosby had a superstar winger like all the other guys named, his point amount would be ridiculous.
@KashiwaDaisuke i agree completely, while crosby and ovechkin aren't modern day gretzkys, they also do play in a defense first NHL. maybe they would be if they were playing in an era such as the incredibly high scoring '80s. both have promising futures
@2010chubbs sorry, i forgot that when bowman entered the red wings in 93-94, yzerman was on pace for a 115 point season. yzerman still put up close to a 100 points every season after, and would have had more 100 plus seasons had he been healthy. he slowed down not only because of his defense, but the incredible amount of injuries sustained on him. there were times where he claimed he couldn't move after games, from suffering so much back and knee pain.
@2010chubbs to continue, datsyuk plays with holmstrom, possibly one of the best grinders and guys in front of the net in the NHL. he also frequently plays with zetterberg, another premier point scorer. the best defenseman of the last 15 years feeds him spectacular passes all the time. crosby plays with chris kunitz, tyler kennedy, and very seldomly on the powerplay, malkin. datsyuk's points are enabled more so by his stacked roster.
Hard to score 100 points on a team like the red wings that has so much talent that you do not have to worry about bringing all the firepower yourself and you know that by passing to player X Y or Z you have just as good a chance of netting a goal. when was the last time the Red Wings had a player lead the league in scoring? heres a hint, hasnt happened since GORDIE HOWE. now, how many Stanley's has Detroit won since than? Yeah, think about it
@KashiwaDaisuke Also, how many years running have the wings gone to the playoffs? heres a hint, its the LONGEST ACTIVE STREAK OF ANY PROFFESIONAL TEAM IN AMERICA IN ANY SPORT. Detroit gets it done as a TEAM, not an indivual. also if you wanna compare Ovi and Crosby to Datsyuk. think about this (career)
@instinctz1 What do shot percentage and penalty minutes per game have to do with anything?
The fact is, it's up to personal interpretation. Pavel is good offensively, but he doesn't have the Art Ross, just like Crosby is good defensively but doesn't have the Selke. They're both amazing players in their own way.
The difference is that Pavel is 32 years old while Crosby and Ovechkin are 23 and 25. Great player in his prime vs. two great players that aren't even in their primes yet.
@KashiwaDaisuke They show just how a player plays, how they conduct themselves, and how they press the issue. Datsyuk has just as much scoring % as either of the two listed. but he just doesnt take as many shots. datsyuk also has the most takeaways per year of any player. if that isnt a DEFENSIVE stat, i dont know what is. Datsyuk has won the Byng how many years running? whens the LAST TIME Datsyuk dived like Crybaby Crosby.
@instinctz1 You completely missed my point, but whatever.
How does defensive play determine the "all-aroundness" of a player? As I said earlier, Datsyuk may be better than Crosby defensively, but Crosby is better offensively. One isn't more complete than the other, because they're both great at all aspects of the game; one simply excels in one area while the other excels in another.
Malkin had more takeaways than Datsyuk in 08-09 and has the same number right now in the 10-11 season.
@KashiwaDaisuke Datsyuk is better than Crosby Offensivley and Deffensively combined, look at his plus minus for his career and look at how many cups he has. It's a team sport and Datsyuk is a better team player than Crosby hands down.
@templetonbob 1. Again, +/- doesn't prove anything. Mike Fucking Green had a +39 last season and he's horrible defensively. I agree that Datsyuk is the best defensive player in the league, but Crosby is also defensively sound.
2. Datsyuk has played 8 seasons in the NHL while Crosby has played 5.
3. The Stanley Cup is a team achievement, not an individual achievement.
4. Would you argue that Yzerman wasn't an amazing player because he only won his first Cup at 32 years of age?
@KashiwaDaisuke All I know is that if you win the Art Ross Trophy with 100 points in a season and have a 0 plus minus, meaning 100 points for and against while on the ice, you are not helping your team at all. That means while you are on the ice, you have a 50/50 chance of producing a goal or getting scored on. Plus/Minus shows how well you produce with your team, not just individually and hockey is clearly a team sport. If you can prevent 50 goals, that's just as good as scoring 50 goals.
@templetonbob So you're saying that if a player has 0 or a minus as his +/-, he doesn't help his team at all? You're proving more and more that you don't know shit about hockey. Did Pavel Bure not help his team at all when he had -14 in 1996 and in 2001?
I'll stress that +/- strongly depends on the team you play in. Marian Hossa, one of the league's best defensive forwards, went from a -14 to a +27 when he switched from the Trashers to the Red Wings at the end of the '07-'08 season.
@KashiwaDaisuke Well compared with your teammates, Datsyuk is always in the top on his team, if you have a -5 and your teammates have +5 then obviously you are either on a penalty killing unit or you just are not as good. But lets look at Datsyuk and Crosby, Datsyuk is making about 6.7million a year to Crosby's 8.7, Datsyuk is clearly a better bargain and because of his pay, he can have better players around him. He's less selfish in that aspect as well which helps his team.
@templetonbob Look, I'm not even denying that Datsyuk is the best defensive forward in the league. I'm just saying that you're underrating Crosby quite a bit here.
Crosby's best season: 120pts @ 19 years old, Art Ross + Pearson + Hart
Datsyuk's best season: 97pts @ 29 and 30 years old, Selke
Also, Crosby is one of the most unselfish players in the league. He's always been a pass-first kind of guy, which is why he got 84 assists in '06-'07.
@KashiwaDaisuke I don't think that you have to try and make a point for Crosby, he's been dubbed "The Next One" and is probably talked about more than any other player right now along with Ovie. But Datsyuk is the most underrated player in the NHL and is probably the best all-around player. There's not one thing Datsyuk doesn't do, including being a leader, sportsmanship, putting points up, playing defense, dangles, shootouts, you name it he's got it. Crosby...he can work on some areas.
@templetonbob What I'm trying to say is that Datsyuk could "work on some areas" just as much as Crosby. Crosby is good defensively, but could work on it; Datsyuk is good offensively, but could also work on that.
@KashiwaDaisuke See I'd disagree, Datsyuk is the perfect balance, if he concentrated more on offense then his 2-way-game would suffer. If you disagree then go watch some film of Datsyuk playing and point out what he is doing wrong and maybe then I would agree with you.
@KashiwaDaisuke your saying datsyuk needs to work on his offense, lol, hes already the guy who dazzles more than anyone else, he just knows HOW TO PASS THE PUCK, he also can rely on his team, Crosby cant, put Dats on a team like the penguins, bet ya after he realizes he has to carry the team and adjusts to it he scores more than crosby. Crosby also cries when shit goes against him. remember when Ovie got that hat trick and crosby bitched at the refs? yeah, grow up kid. this is HOCKEY
@instinctz1 I'm not saying Datsyuk needs to work on his offense. You just don't know how to read.
As I've said before, saying "Datsyuk is better defensively than Crosby" and using that as an argument for him being the better player is stupid. Crosby is miles ahead of Datsyuk offensively. 120 points at 19 years old vs. 97 points at 29 years old, I think the numbers speak for themselves.
Also, Datsyuk played with Zetterberg for a good chunk of his career. Crosby never had such a privilege.
@KashiwaDaisuke but yo i doubt that crosby will get another 120 pts season in his carreer
but you're right that crosby doesnt really get the chance to play with geno & we saw how datsyuk's numbers regressed when zetterberg got injured last year which explains his less than 80pts season
although i dont think crosby would get as many pts as now if he was playing in the western conference, in the wings division (which includes the hawks, the preds, the blues, and the jackets!!!)
@CheapDutchmen What I was trying to say is that Datsyuk was 29 years old when he scored 97 points (and 30 when he scored 97 points again the season after).
@2010chubbs lol huh?!?! Are you talken teams or players? Because Datsyuk didnt win a cup, he was on a TEAM that did. If you are talking individual awards, i really hope you don't go into it with Datsyuk Vs Ovi. When Ovi is surrounded by what Datysuk has always been surrounded by then this will be a debate, until then there is no comparison. Datsyuk is great and one of my all time favorites, but he in no way "carried" a team to a CUP, simply on a team that won one. 35points in 2002 CUP season ;)
@kenny8076 Putting words into my mouth? I provide 1 single statement that he HAS more cups than them. I never said he carried the team, i never said anything about individual awards. 2002...Datsyuk was a nobody on a team which, unbiased, was one of the greatest teams ever assembled and was playing on the 3rd line with an ageing but still pretty good Brett Hull and Boyd Devereaux who you have probably never heard of.
RbkHockey acctually understands the game compaired to 99.9% of the people who comment on hockey videos, no one compairs to Datsyuk and Zetterberg first line ,first line power play almost 100 points a season, first peanalty kill and the best plus minuses in the game
dude thank you so much! so many people think that the Pittsburgh penguins are the best when the NHL gave them the cup! the better team lost and everyone thinks that the pens have a better chance to return to the cup. they almost didnt make the playoffs last year and they shouldnt get that far next time. who has arguable the best lines in the nhl and the best stick handler in the nhl? exactly its the red wings!
@RbkHockey205 Well i have to disagree with you that HE won 2 trophies because HE is the best 2 way player in the league. This is whats wrong with people when talking individual talent to Championships in hockey and it pisses me off! This isnt football where the best QB usually determines how good the team is, or baseball where the pitcher determines that nights outcome. Yes he IS the best 2 way player but thats not WHY he has 2 rings. Other wise Gretzky would have a ring for every season he play

2010chubbs 1 year ago
@2010chubbs It's called marketing techniques, retard. The sponsors and NHL chairmen know that they will make the most revenue by advertising the league's two biggest talents to draw in fans in the US. It's all part of Bettman's plan to make hockey a non-fringe sport.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke So we want a league full of stupid fans that know nothing of the sport except for 2 guys because they saw them on a commercial?Wow what great marketing.Do you really think when people see a commercial of "some guy" named "Crosby" theyre gonna think to themself "That reminds me, I think my city has a hockey team." Ive got an idea of a great marketing technique of how to bring in millions of fans. Lets move the southern teams back to Canada! Sounds foolproof and it might just work!
2010chubbs 1 year ago
@2010chubbs What? I'm just telling you how the NHL's marketing works, which you obviously didn't fully comprehend. It's like the NBA advertising Lebron and Kobe.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke Heres what you wrote "It's called marketing techniques, retard. The sponsors and NHL chairmen know that they will make the most revenue by advertising the league's two biggest talents to draw in fans in the US. It's all part of Bettman's plan to make hockey a non-fringe sport." Your saying advertising these 2 is the best way to make revenue. How in the hell does that change whether new people will watch. Move the teams back to Canada if you want to make the most money.
2010chubbs 1 year ago
@2010chubbs Yeah, give Winnipeg a second chance. I'm sure they won't go bankrupt again... maybe...
Also, advertising a Crosby vs. Ovechkin matchup on ESPN or Versus has been proven to get the highest ratings time and time again. That's just how it is. If you want to draw in viewers, advertise your best young players.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke Phoenix is bankrupt, Pittsburgh was I think bankrupt, if not they were on the brink, hasnt been a problem when Bettmen comes to your aid. If they really wanted high viewer ratings, get the country that created the game involved
2010chubbs 1 year ago
@2010chubbs Your shitty opinion is wrong. Crosby vs. Ovechkin gets the highest ratings, whether you like it or not. And yeah, Pittsburgh was on the brink until they got Malkin and Crosby.

@KashiwaDaisuke This is my last post because Im sick of getting these emails, its like spam.Im entitled to my opinion just as much as you are to yours.

Ovechkin "rivalry" and that's just how it is.

burritochampi 1 year ago
@burritochampi If you read the comments, you would see I already talked about this. He came into the league when he was 24 so that 9 years ago in 2001-2002, subtract the lockout and thats 8 seasons. Crosby came in after the lockout so he has 5 seasons. Not too skewed. For as much hype as Crosby gets, I have yet to see him perform. Every game I see him against the Red Wings, he hardly does anything. Ive probably seen 1 goal and about 3 assists. Its either we have a good defense or hes too hyped.
2010chubbs 1 year ago
@2010chubbs i hate detroit. i'm a leafs fan, then a penguins and flames fan. but i admit the wings are one hell of a team, and have arguably the best defense, in forwards and defenders. lidstrom, rafalski, stuart, kronwall, draper, maltby, zetterberg, and datsyuk are all amazing defenders. and normally they have their best on crosby, arguably the best offensive player in the league. the huge reason why malkin is so successful is because he is overlooked because of the attention on crosby
burritochampi 1 year ago
@2010chubbs Too hyped? Crosby and Ovechkin both scored over 100 points on their rookie seasons, something that happens once every blue moon. They aren't even in their primes yet. Your beloved Datsyuk (not knocking on him, I love him as a two-way player) has never cracked 100 points and he's already slightly past his prime.
Give credit where it's due, please. Crosby and Ovechkin will have plenty of time to earn the Cup between 25 and 30 years of age.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke Did I say Ovechkin and Crosby sucked? Ovechkin is one hell of a player, doesnt whine, doesnt dive, gives good hits. Only thing bothers me about him, he celebrates way too much. I dont care how you celebrate if the goal was great, at a crucial time, or monumental, but if the the score is 3-0 and you score in the 2nd period on the PP to give your team a 4-0 lead, theres no need to jump into the glass and go crazy. This isnt soccer...goals happen all the time.
2010chubbs 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke continued...
2010chubbs 1 year ago
@2010chubbs I know you didn't say they suck. You said they're overhyped. While they certainly aren't modern-day Gretzkys and Lemieuxs like some people had hoped, they're the best young talents we've got right now. Their trophy cases are jam packed for players in their early 20s, so I would say their hype is justified.
Anyway, Crosby had whining issues during his first few seasons and Ovechkin had showboating issues until just recently. They're both maturing and I hope they keep it that way.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke Didnt Sedin just lead the league in points and Stamkos tie with Crosby for goals? I never hear about the Sedins or Stamkos. I know the NHL is using them to attract fans but respect is due for others. Yeah Datsyuk had an off year this year and I dont expect him to get that much credit.
2010chubbs 1 year ago
@2010chubbs and finally, both sedins were on track for 110 point seasons, before daniel was injured for 15 games. they have the best chemistry in the league, but each plays with another superstar. crosby plays by himself often, and did in his rookie campaign. ovechkin does play with one of the best playmakers in the league, nicklas backstrom. stamkos is amazing, but plays with st. louis. if crosby had a superstar winger like all the other guys named, his point amount would be ridiculous.
burritochampi 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke i agree completely, while crosby and ovechkin aren't modern day gretzkys, they also do play in a defense first NHL. maybe they would be if they were playing in an era such as the incredibly high scoring '80s. both have promising futures
burritochampi 1 year ago
@2010chubbs sorry, i forgot that when bowman entered the red wings in 93-94, yzerman was on pace for a 115 point season. yzerman still put up close to a 100 points every season after, and would have had more 100 plus seasons had he been healthy. he slowed down not only because of his defense, but the incredible amount of injuries sustained on him. there were times where he claimed he couldn't move after games, from suffering so much back and knee pain.
burritochampi 1 year ago
@2010chubbs to continue, datsyuk plays with holmstrom, possibly one of the best grinders and guys in front of the net in the NHL. he also frequently plays with zetterberg, another premier point scorer. the best defenseman of the last 15 years feeds him spectacular passes all the time. crosby plays with chris kunitz, tyler kennedy, and very seldomly on the powerplay, malkin. datsyuk's points are enabled more so by his stacked roster.
burritochampi 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke
Yeah, think about it
instinctz1 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke Also, how many years running have the wings gone to the playoffs? heres a hint, its the LONGEST ACTIVE STREAK OF ANY PROFFESIONAL TEAM IN AMERICA IN ANY SPORT. Detroit gets it done as a TEAM, not an indivual. also if you wanna compare Ovi and Crosby to Datsyuk. think about this (career)
Crosby: Shot %: 14.7%. Pim/game: 358/377=.949
Ovie: Shot %: 12.5%. Pim/game: 311/401= .776
Dats:Shot%: 14.5%. Pim/Game: 162/611=.265
seems like dats is better all around to me.
instinctz1 1 year ago
@instinctz1 What do shot percentage and penalty minutes per game have to do with anything?
The fact is, it's up to personal interpretation. Pavel is good offensively, but he doesn't have the Art Ross, just like Crosby is good defensively but doesn't have the Selke. They're both amazing players in their own way.
The difference is that Pavel is 32 years old while Crosby and Ovechkin are 23 and 25. Great player in his prime vs. two great players that aren't even in their primes yet.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke They show just how a player plays, how they conduct themselves, and how they press the issue. Datsyuk has just as much scoring % as either of the two listed. but he just doesnt take as many shots. datsyuk also has the most takeaways per year of any player. if that isnt a DEFENSIVE stat, i dont know what is. Datsyuk has won the Byng how many years running? whens the LAST TIME Datsyuk dived like Crybaby Crosby.
instinctz1 1 year ago
@instinctz1 You completely missed my point, but whatever.
How does defensive play determine the "all-aroundness" of a player? As I said earlier, Datsyuk may be better than Crosby defensively, but Crosby is better offensively. One isn't more complete than the other, because they're both great at all aspects of the game; one simply excels in one area while the other excels in another.
Malkin had more takeaways than Datsyuk in 08-09 and has the same number right now in the 10-11 season.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke datsyuk has the same shot % as Crosby, he just takes more shots. its still early in the season
instinctz1 1 year ago
@instinctz1 So? Crosby has a better shot % than Ovechkin, yet Ovechkin is the best offensive player in the league.
Shot % doesn't prove shit.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke Datsyuk is better than Crosby Offensivley and Deffensively combined, look at his plus minus for his career and look at how many cups he has. It's a team sport and Datsyuk is a better team player than Crosby hands down.
templetonbob 1 year ago
@templetonbob 1. Again, +/- doesn't prove anything. Mike Fucking Green had a +39 last season and he's horrible defensively. I agree that Datsyuk is the best defensive player in the league, but Crosby is also defensively sound.
2. Datsyuk has played 8 seasons in the NHL while Crosby has played 5.
3. The Stanley Cup is a team achievement, not an individual achievement.
4. Would you argue that Yzerman wasn't an amazing player because he only won his first Cup at 32 years of age?
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke All I know is that if you win the Art Ross Trophy with 100 points in a season and have a 0 plus minus, meaning 100 points for and against while on the ice, you are not helping your team at all. That means while you are on the ice, you have a 50/50 chance of producing a goal or getting scored on. Plus/Minus shows how well you produce with your team, not just individually and hockey is clearly a team sport. If you can prevent 50 goals, that's just as good as scoring 50 goals.
templetonbob 1 year ago
@templetonbob So you're saying that if a player has 0 or a minus as his +/-, he doesn't help his team at all? You're proving more and more that you don't know shit about hockey. Did Pavel Bure not help his team at all when he had -14 in 1996 and in 2001?
I'll stress that +/- strongly depends on the team you play in. Marian Hossa, one of the league's best defensive forwards, went from a -14 to a +27 when he switched from the Trashers to the Red Wings at the end of the '07-'08 season.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke Well compared with your teammates, Datsyuk is always in the top on his team, if you have a -5 and your teammates have +5 then obviously you are either on a penalty killing unit or you just are not as good. But lets look at Datsyuk and Crosby, Datsyuk is making about 6.7million a year to Crosby's 8.7, Datsyuk is clearly a better bargain and because of his pay, he can have better players around him. He's less selfish in that aspect as well which helps his team.
templetonbob 1 year ago
@templetonbob Look, I'm not even denying that Datsyuk is the best defensive forward in the league. I'm just saying that you're underrating Crosby quite a bit here.
Crosby's best season: 120pts @ 19 years old, Art Ross + Pearson + Hart
Datsyuk's best season: 97pts @ 29 and 30 years old, Selke
Also, Crosby is one of the most unselfish players in the league. He's always been a pass-first kind of guy, which is why he got 84 assists in '06-'07.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke I don't think that you have to try and make a point for Crosby, he's been dubbed "The Next One" and is probably talked about more than any other player right now along with Ovie. But Datsyuk is the most underrated player in the NHL and is probably the best all-around player. There's not one thing Datsyuk doesn't do, including being a leader, sportsmanship, putting points up, playing defense, dangles, shootouts, you name it he's got it. Crosby...he can work on some areas.
templetonbob 1 year ago
@templetonbob What I'm trying to say is that Datsyuk could "work on some areas" just as much as Crosby. Crosby is good defensively, but could work on it; Datsyuk is good offensively, but could also work on that.
Your argument is circular, really.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke See I'd disagree, Datsyuk is the perfect balance, if he concentrated more on offense then his 2-way-game would suffer. If you disagree then go watch some film of Datsyuk playing and point out what he is doing wrong and maybe then I would agree with you.
templetonbob 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke your saying datsyuk needs to work on his offense, lol, hes already the guy who dazzles more than anyone else, he just knows HOW TO PASS THE PUCK, he also can rely on his team, Crosby cant, put Dats on a team like the penguins, bet ya after he realizes he has to carry the team and adjusts to it he scores more than crosby. Crosby also cries when shit goes against him. remember when Ovie got that hat trick and crosby bitched at the refs? yeah, grow up kid. this is HOCKEY
instinctz1 1 year ago
@instinctz1 I'm not saying Datsyuk needs to work on his offense. You just don't know how to read.
As I've said before, saying "Datsyuk is better defensively than Crosby" and using that as an argument for him being the better player is stupid. Crosby is miles ahead of Datsyuk offensively. 120 points at 19 years old vs. 97 points at 29 years old, I think the numbers speak for themselves.
Also, Datsyuk played with Zetterberg for a good chunk of his career. Crosby never had such a privilege.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago

@eurobillcollector I agree, but they speak volumes when it comes to offensive capability.
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago
@KashiwaDaisuke but yo i doubt that crosby will get another 120 pts season in his carreer
but you're right that crosby doesnt really get the chance to play with geno & we saw how datsyuk's numbers regressed when zetterberg got injured last year which explains his less than 80pts season
although i dont think crosby would get as many pts as now if he was playing in the western conference, in the wings division (which includes the hawks, the preds, the blues, and the jackets!!!)
Skillimidtchiev13 1 year ago
@Skillimidtchiev13 He's on pace for 129 points this season and he's still 23 years old. People tend to forget how freaking young he is.
I will admit that the year of his 120 point season was a high-scoring year where penalties were easily handed out, though
KashiwaDaisuke 1 year ago

@2010chubbs lol huh?!?! Are you talken teams or players? Because Datsyuk didnt win a cup, he was on a TEAM that did. If you are talking individual awards, i really hope you don't go into it with Datsyuk Vs Ovi. When Ovi is surrounded by what Datysuk has always been surrounded by then this will be a debate, until then there is no comparison. Datsyuk is great and one of my all time favorites, but he in no way "carried" a team to a CUP, simply on a team that won one. 35points in 2002 CUP season ;)
kenny8076 11 months ago
@kenny8076 Putting words into my mouth? I provide 1 single statement that he HAS more cups than them. I never said he carried the team, i never said anything about individual awards. 2002...Datsyuk was a nobody on a team which, unbiased, was one of the greatest teams ever assembled and was playing on the 3rd line with an ageing but still pretty good Brett Hull and Boyd Devereaux who you have probably never heard of.
