Well from my stand point which I am a CATM instructor in the USAF and shoot uspsa which is close to ipsc. I think that no matter if your a normal guy off the street or a professional shooter these sports accomomodate everyone. It is a combat style of shooting not meaning that combat is only overseas which alot of people think and picture that. Combat can be outside your own door not only in a war so there is a huge difference and to say that its not combat is wrong.

Being able to aim and fire quickly is a part of special operations. Being able to break down a door, walk into a foggy room, assess multiple targets, and place three rounds center mass in every target that presents a threat to you in under 15 seconds or so -- that's MUCH different than shooting at targets that don't move, shoot back, or have a hostage with a weapon to their head.

What does this comment have to do with IPSC shooting? This is clearly a good demonstration of solid fundamental shooting skill. Nowhere do I see any claim that these are special operations qualified individuals. Even so, top IPSC shooters are FAR better SHOOTERS than most special ops types.

Agreed, I shoot USPSA/IPSC i do not 'compete' per se, i take every course as a real, practical, situation. Sometimes, that attitude nets me faster times from better strategy or tactics.

Just so everyone is aware, I'm neither a special operator or a "commando." My response was never meant to disparage or demean the "skill" these shootists display.

It was meant to offer some recognition that people trying to compare the skill levels of IPSC shooters with special operators is a totally illegitimate comparison.

Special operators work in an extreme pressure environment. The conditions these enthusiasts operate under are completely different.

both shooters are good in their own way. IPSC shooters develop great marksmanship and the ability to shoot at stage competitions, were as the special forces, seals, and rangers all develop how to shoot under extreme stress and pressure. Not taking anything away from either class of shooter just stating my opinion.
