I love hunting, but what they do up in alaska in canada isn't hunting. Its eradication, get out of the plane and at the very very least go on foot with a rifle, not a hundred feet up with a shotgun. Fucking canned hunting.
Leave the wolves alone! There's only a fifth of their population left in the world, they are a keystone species - without them the ecosystem collapses. 20 whole species are GONE because of hunters and ranchers. Let's not repeat the same mistakes! Ignorant bloody imbeciles!
You do make hard to deny points, but most of these stories do have faults. For instance, the children of which one was attacked, could have exagurated as young ones often do in times of stress and fear. Many of these recordings that you've mentioned were in the 1800s during the time the fear of wolves was at it's peak, one of those stories you mentioned was all but confirmed as folklore, during these times people often made stories to justify their doings as they themselves confirmed.
I do not think there is any exaguration when a mother finds peices of her child left. Come on what parent wants to see that or even exagurate...you are so traumitized that it happened and if you are a healthy parent you just are sad that you could not better protect your child. Chuch records are usually very accurate of births and deaths and why. Most of these documented incidents are from church records this is not like voting in chicago.
I think now is the time we put this to rest, you have made good arguments, as have I, and though frustrating at times, I did enjoy the experience of debating this subject with you. I have taken much of what you said for consideration, I hope you have too.
Time of the fear of wolves you mention that peopel may have made this up but the other side is this is the truth about wolves and this is how they are. This was also a time of gun control and hunting only by the lord of the mannor not the people's. The wovles became less shy and prey tested on humans, killed humans, taught their pups and continued...until they were killed.
You are partially right on these previous comments, though I think they way you describe the mother's reaction may be yours, but many people do want revenge, even if they don't realize it, when they have been hurt. In truth, I've seen many who want this. I have found that it is true that wolves do on occasion kill humans, but not in America, there are reasons for this: there was no masacre in Europe, there was in America, and wolves here learned to fear humans.
Y'know if you learn to speak and act like a wolf around wolves, they leave you alone. Get into a submissive position and they won't harm you. Shaun Ellis developed a howling system that would keep wolves away from livestock and homes. Problem solved - both parties satisfied, thank you you've been a terrific audience.
They never showed if it did work for that farmer, did they ever announce that it worked? It makes perfectly logical sense that it would work, I'm just amazed they haven't spread the word about it yet.
Shaun Ellis' wolves are serverly habituated just like the guy with the bears that end up attacking him. One day Shawn will be in a fight with his...just like the woman at OUt of Africa in Phx...her arm was nearly ripped off and in critical condition.
Look Sister, you have just been searching for bad things about the wolves, how about you try to learn our point of view. Regardless of what we say, your opinion wont change because children were "involved." You have the right to your opinion, but learn about your opponents point of view before you fight with them. Shaun is a great man, and he will probably be the lead to helping us with wolves. (Btw, wild bears don't exhibit social group behavior nearly as much as wolves)
All top predators can be dangerious...it is not good or bad but a fact of life. You are in their food chain and need to understand that. If the wolves and the wolf managers leave me and my kids and others alone I have no issue just like where I grew up in Canada. But when dangerious wolves are not removed because of the ESA that is the down fall of the ESA. Human lives should not be put in danger.
Ah my buddy - you are still fowl and not showing any intellegence with your behavior. You have see the reintroduction the truth video. You have seen the man stalked. Children have been stalked. this is a wolf hunting behavior and called testing new prey or prey testing.
Basically getting a better view of what is in their territory and wolves are naturally afraid of humans. I will say it again, YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WOLVES. Wolf laws and human laws greatly differ. So sheep dogs, they exhibit prey testing behaviour... lets shoot them hey?
Any top preditor thinks they are tops. They learn they are not. Wolves in the americas were taught...in russia they were not. Isnt that intresting how historical items can affect the animals that live with us and even prey on us.
Yes and I have even seen a bald eagle stop to eat on a dead bear. I have been very involved but I do not beleive in reintroducing dangerious and habituated predators. I am all for species including humans. You are not and you will not even have in your back yard what you insist I must have in mine.
Glad you are admiting you are sick because your behavior and language is rude. Many biologist left the program due to issues with management and the animals released. These are not even wild wolves and it is questionable if they are even wolves.
You know you are destroying the natural balance. If the wolf goes, so does everything around it. Wolves keep the balance, they shave off the weak and sick and if you were a true scientist you would know that for a fact. Go back to Uni and smarten up.
you are right, we are in the food chain. I am not saying wolves have never killed humans (they have, but that was before guns were invented) but I do not put humans before wolves, nor do I put wolves before humans. Children have never been killed by wolves (at least not since history has been recorded) predators are dangerous, but now a days wolves are not deadly, they fear us and unless you corner one or directly threaten them, they will not attack.
You are so reasonable which is nice. But children have been killed even reciently. You should read a book called wolves in russia (wolvesinrussia dot com). But look on these names Joel Kenton Carnegie (the canadian corner confirms wolves killed him) and read the accounts of wolf human interactions in alaska and canada
Wolves will attack and have in history and there is a reason for the folk lore on this. From aroudn the world wolves ahve attacked and kiled not only children but adults. Often times it is a gun that ends it for the wolf if parents are close by.
2005 historian Dr. Antti Lappalainen published his research findings on lethal wolf attacks on humans in Finland under the title "Suden jäljet", the Tracks of the Wolf, ISBN 952-5118-79-7. By going through old church records and newspapers, found a total of 193 lethal attacks of which 110 children who fell victim to predatory attacks and 83 adults, 139 occurred between 1802 and 1881 - 78 children and 61 adults.
Nov 8, 2005, a 22 year old geological engineering student at the University of Waterloo by the name of Kenton Joel Carnegie, was killed by four wolves at Points North Landing, Wollaston Lake area, in northern Saskatchewan. Fresh snow allowed accurate track reading. Mr. Carnegie was by himself when he was approached by the wolves from behind. He fell three times before failing to rise. Canadaian coroner confirmed these findings.
This story has a lot of evidence pointing towards the wolf, but there are many cases almost identical to this where it is found that a bear was the actual killer, and the wolves came upon the kill. Though I cannot say with total confirmation that this was not done by wolves, I do doubt it.
Cornors report. Plus there are so many other historic evidence I cited so wolves have killed and attacked people and even specialiezed as being man eaters in historical times. The tourkouv (sp?) wolves for one...main issue is not rabies but lost of fear of man or habituation. Out visiting the wovles is helping to make wolves more habituated.
I have read up about this story, finding no actual details. I did come across one description that said that his body was scavanged, but had no direct linkage to wolves. It is unknown if he was "Killed" or merely died of natural causes.
If you ar talking about Kenton Joel Carnegie he did not die of natural causes like exposure. He was killed by wolves. THe cornor report says large canine bites. Read the cornors report or go to wolfcrossing dot org and type Kenton Joel Carnegie into the search... you will get a letter from his mother or father talking about the insident and what National Geographic did to them
2000- Icy Bay alaska 6 year old John Stenglein and a nine-year-old friend were playing outside his family's trailer when a wild wolf came out of the woods towards the boys. The wolf attacked young Stenglein from the back, biting him on the back and buttocks Adults, hearing the boy's screams, came and chased the wolf away. The wolf returned a few moments later and was shot. According to ADF&G, the wolf was a healthy wild wolf that apparently attacked without provocation.
Milton P. Skinner in his book, "The Yellowstone Nature Book" (published 1924) wrote, "Most of the stories we hear of the ferocity of these animals... come from Europe. There, they are dangerous because they do not fear man, since they are seldom hunted except by the lords of the manor. In America, the wolves are the same kind, but they have found to their bitter cost that practically every man and boy carries a rifle..."
Biologists tell us that the wolves of Asia and North America are one and the same species. Wolf attacks are common in many parts of Asia.
The government of India reported more than 100 deaths attributable to wolves in one year during the eighties. (Associated Press, 1985) This author recalls a news report in 1990 in which Iran reported deaths from attacks by wolves.
Volk (Wolf) by Michail Pavlov, a recognized authority on the timber wolf in the USSR, was published. A 2nd ed was published in Moscow in 1990 by (Agricultural Industry Publishing), ISBN 5-10-001221-8. Pavlov dwells extensively on the relationship man/wolf. Among other things, he describes wolf habituation and man-eating in the Kirov, Vladimir and Ortitj regions during and after WWII. The cases are described in detail. The pattern of loss of fear of humans and the method of attacks on children
Rashid Jamsheed, a U.S. trained biologist, was the game director for Iran. He wrote a book entitled "Big Game Animals of Iran (Persia)." In it he made several references to wolf attacks on humans. Jamsheed says that for a millennia people have reported wolves attacking and killing humans. In winter, when starving wolves grow bold, they have been known to enter towns and kill people in daylight on the streets. In Iran, there are many cases of wolves running off with small children.
My children have been stalked coming home from school. A wolf spent a month in a familes yard before the goverment just shot her. PREY TESTING. Learn you history.
So i have to wait until and pedophile or any animals attacks to even think about protecting. Poor logic on your part. Know a danger. The problem is you do not know the danger. A rattle snake coiled and sunning will strike. A rattle snake just laying out flat might strike and they will. Same with a wolf. PREY TESTING
And was she doing anything wrong by being in the yard? Did she do anything hostile? Y'know that was probably a den site, idiot - wolves don't kill within a certain radius to prevent the den being located by predators.
Umm reality check wolves are endangered and are not a threat to humans. And if a wolf was stalking me it would probably be thinking "What is that thing?". Its ignorant selfish fools like you wolf-haters who made this so. You stole that land from the wolf.
It is a behavior of a wolf looking for something new...food. It is a test to see if you are food.
You are still calling people names and your behavior makes you look bad and is not benifical to your cause. Use facts and data. But you cannot discredit that children have been stalked and also lifted by wolves. My kids were stalked here in New Mexico and investigated by the state. FACT!!!!!
Sister, it seems that you have had a bad experience with wolves, but you have taken your beliefs too rash. Were you there when your children were being "stalked?" Whether it was actually stalking or not is irrelivent. You need to see the actual behaviors this wolf was/is doing. you said that prey testing, spee and sport killing is all you know, learn the actual facts about wolves. This is not prey testing. I wasn't there, I don't know if it was actually stalking, but were you there?
FWS investigated and county wolf officer confirmed. Why else would 3 wolves follow children home? Curorisity is PREY TESTING. Public safety is not RASH.
I grew up with wolves in Canada and these are captive raised nor fearful of humans wolves. Their breeding is even suspect to containing dog due to lineage and hybridization in the field. This is a different deal. Would you say a child being encircled for 10 minues by wolves in a hunting posture was ok?
YES. ALB journal. These things are happenning while you argue and defend they increase their boldness. If you have studies wolves then you have read about wolf human interactions study in alaska and canada. Curosity and wolves towards humans look at ethology and behavoir and what comes next.
Actually what I'm trying to stress with this is that 60 years ago, wolves in the lower 48 and much of Canada were ANNIHILATED. Justification PLEASE. Imbecile. Y'know its hard work for us conservationists with ignorant people like you in the way.
You are very rude and disrespectiful. The reason they were wiped out is they were attacking people (historical evidence), killing livestock and animals people depended on for food and lively hood.
What are you going to eat you "imbecile" if farmers (I am an organic farmer) and ranchers are not making food for you?
Wow WC you are right he has also been rude to me and I do not even think he lives in this country but wants to impose on us anway. I have had my kids stalked.
No moron, They were killed because hunters wanted more elk to kill and your farmers wanted more land to put their cattle on. Disrespectful? How do you expect me to be when ignorant morons like you are destroying the environment out of selfish greed.
what like the biolgist that left the program in disgust because they used undocumented Mexican grey wolf lienage in their breeding program. Ever read the Mc Bride letter. Educate yourself.
I am I think it is inapproprate to conserve an animal in rabies country not vaccinated.
I think it is crazy to use very questionable dog lienage in wolf breeding.
I think it is dumb and dangerious to allow wolves that are showing in approprate behavior to train that into their pups instead of good shy behavior. Why reintroduce habituated animals?
What about releaseing in an area where the gene pool can be mixed with coyote and dog which it has. THis program is a mess.
They do not care children being killed by wolves to them is the same as dieing on the highway. One wolf manager said this at a recient wolf meeting. You do not have a clue about what we are living with here. Please come camp
Still lots of miss info on wolves. If a wolf was stalking you or your kids how would you feel. This is going on in New Mexico and Arizona. An attack here is comming soon with all this prey testing of humans.
Wolves don't kill for sport. There is a reason behind every kill. Learn about nature you fool. And once again you are using the 'you don't live here' defence. How pathetic.
Again rude and incorrect. Please tell me what the reason was for wolves to kill and not eat 5 elk calves in one morning. some were not even dead just dieing. Sport, spree or thrill killing calll it what you will - it is a behavior of wolves.
If you want a wolf own a wolfdog that's why they were created. Leave the wild wolf out there we have a wolf that can be owned as a pet a friend of mine owns one it is wolf like, so if you want one own a wolfdog stop steal the wild ones we already don't have enough wild ones as it is.
Lots of misinformation on wolves is trotted out by US Fish and Wildlife and biologists that have little experience with understanding animal behavior. I am a big animal lover but growing up in Canada I know about wolves. Wolves are not fearful and can become very bold around man. The wolves here in the southwest are a bad deal, very habitualzed to man. They have been circling kids out hiking, following pack strings, following trail riders, entering camps, nearly attacking a child.
That is always a problem. Once something is popular we want to be close to it. Unfortunatly this time it isn't a something, it's a someone. It is always best to give all wild animals their space and admire them from afar.
may th wolves start to howl again...

What are you going to eat you "imbecile" if farmers (I am an organic farmer) and ranchers are not making food for you?
wolfcrossing 4 years ago
Wow WC you are right he has also been rude to me and I do not even think he lives in this country but wants to impose on us anway. I have had my kids stalked.
SisterLovesWildlife 4 years ago
But were never attacked.
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
Aww the old I don't live there routine. That's a pathetic excuse if ever there was one.
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
It changes your attitude when you live with it not oceans away
SisterLovesWildlife 4 years ago
No moron, They were killed because hunters wanted more elk to kill and your farmers wanted more land to put their cattle on. Disrespectful? How do you expect me to be when ignorant morons like you are destroying the environment out of selfish greed.
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
Please stop eating then you selfish greedy person. If there was no demand for fresh vegies or meat then no demand.
SisterLovesWildlife 4 years ago
Hey I got a great idea, how about you talk to people behind the reintroduction before you start screaming controversy?
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
what like the biolgist that left the program in disgust because they used undocumented Mexican grey wolf lienage in their breeding program. Ever read the Mc Bride letter. Educate yourself.
wolfcrossing 4 years ago
You seem so concerned about wolf conservation... (sarcasm)
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
I am I think it is inapproprate to conserve an animal in rabies country not vaccinated.
I think it is crazy to use very questionable dog lienage in wolf breeding.
I think it is dumb and dangerious to allow wolves that are showing in approprate behavior to train that into their pups instead of good shy behavior. Why reintroduce habituated animals?
What about releaseing in an area where the gene pool can be mixed with coyote and dog which it has. THis program is a mess.
wolfcrossing 4 years ago
Talk to the people behind reintroduction moron. They know a lot more about it than you.
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
They do not care children being killed by wolves to them is the same as dieing on the highway. One wolf manager said this at a recient wolf meeting. You do not have a clue about what we are living with here. Please come camp
SisterLovesWildlife 4 years ago
Still lots of miss info on wolves. If a wolf was stalking you or your kids how would you feel. This is going on in New Mexico and Arizona. An attack here is comming soon with all this prey testing of humans.
SisterLovesWildlife 4 years ago
Learn about what you're talking about before you give your opinion.
Kenburn7 4 years ago
I live with wolves do you?
Prey testing, spee and sport killing I know all about wolves.
SisterLovesWildlife 4 years ago
Wolves don't kill for sport. There is a reason behind every kill. Learn about nature you fool. And once again you are using the 'you don't live here' defence. How pathetic.
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
Again rude and incorrect. Please tell me what the reason was for wolves to kill and not eat 5 elk calves in one morning. some were not even dead just dieing. Sport, spree or thrill killing calll it what you will - it is a behavior of wolves.
wolfcrossing 4 years ago
And why don't you talk to wolf biologists then?
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
Rude? How so? Well if you knew anything about wolves that is leaving for harder times. Foxes do it, all dogs do it.
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
That's more of a human trait. So can you tell me why wolves were reintroduced hey? For one thing it wasn't to be killed by hunters.
CanisLupusSapien 4 years ago
and a wolfdog is not dangerous! I'm going to get one they are more trustworthy than a dog!
AkaylaWhitewolf 4 years ago
If you want a wolf own a wolfdog that's why they were created. Leave the wild wolf out there we have a wolf that can be owned as a pet a friend of mine owns one it is wolf like, so if you want one own a wolfdog stop steal the wild ones we already don't have enough wild ones as it is.
AkaylaWhitewolf 4 years ago
