Ingenix parent company UnitedHealth has already settled a similar lawsuit for $350 million. In order to avoid prosecution by the state of New York, the company also agreed to establish a new database under the supervision of that state's attorney general. UnitedHealth and Aetna have each agreed to contribute $20 million toward this database, while WellPoint has agreed to pay $10 million.
The lawsuits, targeting insurance companies including Aetna, Cigna and WellPoint, allege that the insurers used unfair figures from a database produced by a company called Ingenix in order to set reimbursement rates for doctors who were not part of their health insurance networks. According to the plaintiffs, the use of a standardized database disregarded the different costs of operating in different parts of the country, and unfairly caused excess costs to be passed on to patients.

Private insurence will continue to exist and you will still be able to get it through your employer. All of the bills will aim to improve the efficiency of our healthcare system and some will offer a public plan to compete (not replace) private insurers. Competition is at the heart of capitalism.

Don't forget, government currently runs ~50% of medical care and ~90% of education. We will get the service of the DMV and the quality of post office, or some of both. There are always three constraints: quality, speed and cost. The government will ration (speed) and good doctors and procedures will decrease (quality) if/when this garbage bill is enacted.

I work with many small business that can no longer afford health care for their employees...
And many whom are self employed that cannot afford insurance for themselves... If you think that when these people become ill and go to the emergency room that you are not paying for that... you don't know enough of what you think you know.
The gov't uses tax payer money to reimburse hospitals... so you pay for it as a tax payer and you pay for it with high premiums and higher hospital costs...

I say try the Single payer system for like 5 years and see how it goes because the current helath care system sucks. Atleast with the single payer system it's regulated by law and "the people" can vote on things. It will not be perfect at the start but what is.

Gato, I'm sorry to break it to you but you have your facts mixed up. Not a single bill on healthcare that has been passed through committee will create government run healthcare. Private insurence will continue to exist and you will still be able to get it through your employer. All of the bills will aim to improve the efficiency of our healthcare system and some will offer a public plan to compete (not replace) private insurers. Competition is at the heart of capitalism.
