  • "I would love to see anyone operate Windoz OS this fast and fluid"... I would LOVE to see any program on Linux to run as it's meant to. I would also love to install non obscure programs without a fucking terminal. I'm not going to use an OS just for gelatin windows and a motherfucking pointless cube.

Don't get me wrong, I use Ubuntu since 7.04, but linux neckbeards need to understand that people want functionality and easiness over open software and a nice desktop.

  • Way to go slowing down any computer beyond usability...

  • @SuppleBrony you'd actually be pretty surprised at how conservative this is

  • what calculator you've use to record this ?

  • cool like romantic nights

  • Blazing Hot! Thumbs Up!!!

  • Snap offf Maximize windows UN-checked !!! YEAH OK

  • I want your CCSM wobbly window settings

  • 0:34 for the wobble windows how are they so wobbly

  • 0:24 how do you pull down the windows so low like that AND

0:41 how do you make the window so wobbly

  • 2011 .... my head just exploded

  • what is this app in natty 11.04

  • @AnAsian2010 It's not an App, it is just OpenGL Compiz-Fusion compositing tool. Which is a 3D layering API on Linux!!!

  • bela bosta..

  • GODDAMN FANTASTIC ITS LIKE A VIDEO GAME

  • whoa that was yummy! :) i like the jelly-like effect of the window ^_^

  • Sehr gut eingestellt !

  • @powerofparadise Danke!

  • Wow 2006 - about the time when I finally banned Windows from our home. 4 years have passed since then, and the progress that has been made in that time really astonishes me. Think about the future!

  • cool clip! I studied on Gnome and KDE long ago @ a IT tradeschool. Barely remember it now.

  • How do you do the menu like that i swear ccsm ignores everything I edit inside :( nothing changes what am I doing wrong? can you send me this config? and make my life easy lol

  • @eoterm I would if I could, but this install is 4yrs old now. I used KDE and the new KDE doesn't use Compiz-Fusion. They use their own compositing manager. But I did move the start panel to the top more like Gnome here. I'll check through some files to see if I saved the Compiz-Quinn config file though. But it may take some time!

  • @kroneage ohh don't worry about it thanks for the respond... I just installed Ubuntu Ultimate Edition, they made it all fancy already...i just tweak to add a few extras I like... And UE comes with all the other desktops , LXDE, KDE,XFCE, and Gnome, I used Compiz with KDE seems to work okay there is a KDE plugin in Compiz :D

  • how do you do that with the menu? it seems whenever i go into compizconfig setting it ignores everything I ask for :( I want my menus to appear like that

  • Windows 7 !!! Windows 7 !!! Windows 7 !!!!

  • @BryanElMatatan Microsoft Window 7 is about 4 years too late! xD ....notice the date on this and no way can Windows anything keep up with the multitasking and ease of this user interface, even on that old hardware! :D

I would love to see anyone operate a Windoz OS this fast and fluid.... that even on an Intel i7 with lots of RAM! *_^

  • @kroneage I did that cube thing on my POS school PC on WinXP with 2GB's of RAM and a bullcrap 1,6 processor. Dell latitude d531, look it up. This is not what makes linux impressive. (I actually uninstalled it, cuz it looked like crap and didn't do me nothing good.)

  • @PowerTorsk Well if it wasn't fast you messed up. Why are you talking about XP? XGL won't run on XP. It's a linux exclusive & if you didn't find the ability to multi-task & run so many processes at the same time great, it wasn't installed right. Aside from that, to each his own. The prime reason Linux is so great is that it's so incredibly versatile, customizable & light on resource use. It was also the very first fully 64bit system out & still the only OS w/64bit browser with FLASH! ^_^

  • @kroneage Late reply, I know...

I was only talking about the cube thing, not that specific program. Who cares if they both do the same right? And I said that I ran it on Xp to make a point. XP sucks. And yet something akin to this somehow ran on it perfetly. I am saying there's better things to brag of about linux than this. Like the fact that it had an application for downloading software long before the Mac. But this graphic piece of nobody-really-uses-it-for-reas-work is just sad.

  • @PowerTorsk ah yes an Old Linux Troglodyte demanding that every Linux user live back in the Dark Ages of CLI & non 3D black & white screens. I know your type, but I'd hoped you staid old farts blew yourselves up lighting a match to your asses. Windows XP? OMG haven't you violated your own Linux code of ethics by using that POS? Of course it ran like shizt.. dumbass. The whole point of a GPU accelerated desktop is to take compute load off the CPU & allow it to multi-task. XP can't do that fool!

  • @PowerTorsk Just admit it, you don't know the first thing about Linux & the fact that the same API's in OpenGL that allow Apple/Linux to run it's desktop, mobile phones to run accelerated desktops as well as browsers using WebGL today, are the same OS to hardware API's. Progress to idiots like you, is listening to the dumbass who installed your Linux for you (because you for sure didn't). Telling you to be sure to wear your blinders for blocking any innovations in future user interfaces!

  • Wtf... Linux the Best.. really.. the futuro is Fusion... lol

  • Linux wins flawless victory

  • hi, you can upload your configuration... I want the windows gelatinous ond the menu's only :D... or can publish a document with the configuration of plugin's compiz/beryl

  • Best. Skydome. Ever.

  • I can say as the name of that song?

  • @mazacre666 The music is Sidology Ep 2: Trinity, By Machinae Supremacy.

  • what compiz is that..mine is shittttt

  • @guicapone2 Chances are you have no idea how to configure it. This is essentially early Compiz builds back in 2006.

  • @LordDestros Actually on this install, I had Quinn Storm's original Control Panel (Compiz -Quinn). Which was far superior to what we have now today. Even though she is still a developer on the new combined Compiz-Fusion, Dave Reveman can be a dickwad & he doesn't like anyone getting credit for good code that he didn't write. Most of Compiz is now junk compared to Beryl. He hates anything to look good or be too easy to use. Because, it takes away from other's view that he's the Compiz Genius!

  • @guicapone2 Open your compiz menu and set everything on;)

  • what song?

  • @ubuntuFish The music is Sidology Ep 2: Trinity, By Machinae Supremacy. Go to their web site and look for downloads in Webology or just search this term with download in the terms! :D

  • jahat einer dem Willen mich von meiner dauer einsamkeit zu retten

  • Creativity

    Thank you very much

  • @Bayonetta4

Well Ubuntu IS GNU/LINUX but its of the "easy" distributions. Its a good start/use for people who use computers for basic purposes. If you want a "real" Linux, Linux from Scratch is the way to go ;) BTW Awesome video :D

  • Personal preferences are cool, but being an Elitest is not the best to spread the news that Linux is a great OS option for anyone!

Bayonetta is danger of falling into that trap. I know because I was in it, installing Gentoo from scratch at 14yo. It's the kernel that make Linux, LINUX! ...not how complicated it is to install & how much time you put into it or that you're fluent in GeekSpeak w/ CLI! ;)

I've installed Slackware, Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, SuSE (here) & Sabayon is my fav & easiest! :D

  • "with VirtualBox Windows is compatible.."

So many people miss the entire reason behind the movement to Linux and continue to toss hundred dollar bills at Microsoft when they could have an equivalent (some say superior) product, unofficially supported by thousands of people (often better than Microsoft supports Windows) for free.

The only thing stopping me from removing Windows forever are PC game publishers. As soon as this is remedied, I'm done. Linux already does everything else better.

  • @rkingsboro Right now w/in Mesa we have Gallium 3D launching. It'll have the ability to run VM applications (like games) w/ direct hardware support in a composited desktop layer. Doing this in full screen no less! :DDD

So the scenario is you're running Linux. You don't even have a Windows VM running, but you have a shortcut to Crysis on your Desktop. It's installed into a Win VM wrapper. Click the link & the game will run in a composited layer on Linux.

    Mesa/Linux on PS3 w/acceleration even!

  • with VirtualBox Windows is compatible with more than 99.9% of the Linux software

  • VirtualBox is simply another VMware type product for Windoz. Although you can run Linux virtual machines, they're not running directly on the hardware. So they're slower than an actual install & will not be capable of compiz-fusion effects.

Also the main object of Compiz-Fusion is to reduce the compute load on the CPU. By using the GPU to do all display the Desktop & graphics!

Now we also have OpenCL for shared CPU workload on the GPU. Which makes Linux the most efficient OS on the planet!

  • I just discovered Mesa Gallium 3D Open Source driver and this makes VirtualBox Apps and OS installs, fully capable of hardware acceleration, on a composited desktop layer! :D

  • Is there such thing as 3D background for the desktop cube? You know, so you could switch between desktops and watch e.g. stonehedge in 3D instead of just its ugly stretched picture.

  • yeah theres an plugin just google "compiz 3d model plugin" or something

  • Kroneage's video was done nearly 4yrs ago kicks ass and NO squirrelly assed Win 7 (Blackcomb) in development since the Stone Age can hold a candle to it!

If any of you Winblows Fagots can demonstrate the speed and finesse on the desktop demonstrated here...., on Kroneage's old video, let's see it!

Oh...... and I install operating systems for a living. Meaning Linux, Solaris, BSD, OS-X, Windows and it's assorted candy ass flavors..... with 7ista being my favorite to take a dump on! ;-)

  • i always used windows. But i thougt i should try something else. then i tried ubuntu, AND IT ROCKS! its fancier and you can hack a router within a hour with it ;)

  • uurrgh wth is going on witht the links. The comment is gone. Anyway, RealFduch posted

"BTW do you know that Compiz copyed the "wobbly windows" from Windows Longhorn demonstrations in 2003. Before you start disagreeng, remember that the was NO compositing window manager in Linux for some years after the said demonstration."

@RealFduch, yes you are right that Windows Longhorn showed wobbly windows in a 2003 demonstration. However, these effects were never officially made to the public.

  • Also, they were only min/max/move effects; not cube or anything else.

However, the main purpose of this video back in 2006: was to show that you don't need a supercomputer to have an incredibly rich 3D graphic interface. This video was made using a (2002) dell with 2.4 ghz P4 proc, Nvidia 6600 GT gfx card, and only 512 megs of RAM.... I GUARANTY that NO WINDOWS OS ever has or ever will run the same graphics with the same speed on such slow hardware. I wasn't even pushing the sys to its limits.

  • I know because Vista and 7 won't even run on the comp that this vid was created on, with even the simplest aero effects. Even the compositing WM's released later for XP stutter horribly doing the simplest of tasks; even with all unnecessary processes eliminated.

Finally. The first true composting window manager with 3D effects was not windows longhorn or linux, but Mac OSX in 2001. The first Linux compositing WM was released *to the public* in 2004.

  • called Metacity.

  • >released *to the public*

Hmm... For most open-source software "released to the public" means "it compiles if you try really hard".

I wonder why it took so long for XGL/Compiz if they had the wonderful Metacity available...?

  • @RealFduch Hmm... I wonder why it took so long for Longhorn/Vista/7 if they had all these wonderful aero compositing effects in 2003. It took MS 5 years to release Vista and 7 is still a slow, buggy, insecure, mess that doesn't do any of the things originally promised. Probably 60% of peoples' computers can't use full Aero effects without a major performance hindrance. On top of the performance hog of a UI it STILL doesn't do 99% of the things shown in those 2003 demos.

  • @kroneage

I currently run Windows 7 on Athlon 3200+ and it's really fast. I successfully run Windows 7 on Pentium III with 512Mb RAM and S3 Trio 64+ video card without ANY 3D acceleration. People have Installed Windows 7 on Pentium II PCs.

  • @RealFduch Now let's get this straight. Right now the film industry is using OpenGL Linux to make all movie SFX. Disney's Pixar is the king of SFX Graphic Design & they use Dreamworks w/ Autodesk's Mudbox. Yes in LINUX on OpenGL API's (not your dumbass Vista or 7ista w/ DX crap)!

M$ DX API's don't run shit in Pro Graphics! The unsurpassed speed and unlimited feature set forced M$ to use some of it's API's in all OS versions from ME to 7ista!

Now OpenGL ES powers 90% of Mobile OS's too! xD

  • @RealFduch Linux Compiz was Out before Vista & 7ista were released to public. Aero was the last of all compositing engines!

Apple used same OpenGL API's in Expose 2002. NeXT Step had OpenGL Compositing Desktop in mid 90's. Amiga before that! M$ was last to get their asses out the door & still F'd up. Becuz they have to use both OpenGL & their DirectX crap!

DirectX was developed for Games & OpenGL was developed for Professional Graphic Design & the Film Industry. They can't even be compared! xD

  • Sorry, but you are plain wrong.

Did I say anything aboyut non-Linux systems? No.

Did I say anything about RTM releases? No.

I said that Longhorn had compositing and wobbly windows in 2003 and only in 2004 XGL alphas started to emerge.

    >DirectX was developed for Games & OpenGL was developed for Professional Graphic Design & the Film Industry.

That's where I agree with you.And they proved it even more with the release of 3.0 version. They basically told game devs games aren't important (CAD is).

  • >is using OpenGL Linux to make all movie SFX

Why would they use GAMING grapics API for movie SFX? Why are you comparing completely different things?

(Is it because Linux people try to use OpenGL for games instead of it's intended areas?)

  • @RealFduch I never said iVista/7 wouldn't run period... I only said it wouldn't run with FULL aero effects without considerable lag on this comp. Compiz has no lag whatsoever on this system. I wasn't even pushing the system to its limits in this video. Just to test the limits of the system, at some points I've been able to have well over 150 windows open with no lag, make them all disappear with full animation at once and then reappear at once...

  • with full animation, and spinning the cube at the same time. Some of those windows were videos. On this same computer I've also been able to run up to 12 720p videos at once (and doing various other tasks using animation) before showing slight signs of lag. 16 720 vids before showing noticeable lag. 4 1080p vids with slight signs and 6 showing noticable.

  • @kroneage I'm talking about times where i can go around the desktop and do just about anything else at the same time. Even on XP i'm lucky if i can even get just 1 1080p video to run smoothly.

  • @kroneage

    >However, these effects were never officially made to the public.

Of course they weren't. Do you really expect a serious company like MS to include something like this in their OS? Wobbly/burning windows are really just horrible. The cube is better, but most Windows users don't want or need it since they do fine without switching desktops.

  • @tarasco19 This video is almost 4 years old now; so it's using one of the first versions of compiz, which had a super wobbly windows feature. Compiz is not quite the same anymore. It will take some settings adjustment to make it close, but I can never make it exactly the same again.

  • @kroneage

BTW do you know that Compiz copyed the "wobbly windows" from Windows Longhorn demonstrations in 2003. Before you start disagreeng, remember that the was NO compositing window manager in Linux for some years after the said demonstration.

  • hey guys the other day i saw a program for güindous that can do some of this effects the bad thing is that it consumes a lot of resources, of course it's a piece of shit compared to compiz

  • tank youu

  • the Song plz ? =)

  • The song can be found on their web site for free download. It's Sidology Ep 2: Trinity, By Machinae Supremacy.

    Here:

    machinaesupremacy. com /webography.php

  • seriously, where can I download the song?... I love the last ninja!

  • You didn't enable all compiz effects, that's the most incredible to me. And after that, many noobs still using ruindows "bugged" seven and XP =D AERO SUX. If graphics was the unique reason to choose a S.O i would get linux, and if the reason was the stability, power and S E C U R I T Y, of course linux would be again, the perfect choice.

  • @neurom4nc3r hehe did you see how old this video is? This is among the top 3 oldest compiz videos ever made. I created it when the compiz-quinn split from compiz-reveman first went public (before it became beryl and before reveman and quinn team were brought back together in their current form compiz-fusion). I enabled all effects that were available at the time. Compiz was actually far more efficient back then than it is now. The code was very clean, I can't get it to run nearly as nice now.

  • @neurom4nc3r also, awesome comment! :D Naturally, I agree on all points!

  • I love Ubuntu not because its easy to use, but its the only flavor of Linux that lets me play all my pc games at 200+ fps.

  • gta iv?!! omfg!!! 200fps!

  • How did you do that at 0:21?

  • @TheWindowsGamer This is from when they had Super Wobbly Windows. It was a feature in Quinn Storms version of Compiz!!! ....can't do that anymore in Compiz Fusion!!!

  • dº_ºb

  • lmao

Windows if for people who are to dumb to use linux...

  • Not entirely true.

I find windows harder to use sometimes.

  • I agree! ....Windows Vista and 7ista are harder to use than Linux right out of the box. Even has Flash in 64bit mode on Linux installed a long with Java, thanks to M$'s deal w/Sun after Sun won the Java lawsuit. They were forced to link to Sun Java or have Sun's Java installed. Pissed they lost, we must install it on Windows! That's just the way of a Proprietary Rip Off Company, ever scrambling to cover their Thieving Asses!

Their creed? "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" is still alive! :P

  • and gamers that don't have the money to buy a console lol

  • shure, cause a $300 console is way more expensive then a intel core i7 965 extreme oc'd, liquid cooling, 1000 watts power supply, 8 gb ddr3 ram, coolermaster case, mouse, keyboard, joystick, nvidia gtx295 and raid0 hdd PC. -.- (!)

  • like 90% of the market, shure there aren't other reasons (!)

  • Is an Awesome video, Linux is Wonderful!!!!

  • wats is

  • I'm thinking change my OS to Linux, but i'm new in this area. So tell me, this version has all functionalities than others linux like ubuntu and others? i'm quite lost here...

  • This video is now very old. I was beta testing Compiz when it came out a full year before Vista Aeroglass. This is a SuSE 10 install. I've used Ubuntu, but it's too bland and you have to install too many things yourself. So now I recommend and Sabayon Linux!

Search the name and you will want to download the full 4gig install. This will have several desktop interfaces. KDE is more like windows and Gnome is more like Mac OS-X. Everything is installed and works out of box. Including Drivers! :D

  • Sabayon is the distro that I settled on as well, though I am downloading FreeBSD and PC-BSD to give them a whirl (I know, those aren't Linux, but they're all Unix-Like).

  • I would recommend Linux Mint. Less settings for pros, more pre-installed codecs. Also it has a good support for people who are new to Linux (like all they know about computers is how to click the mouse)

  • This coming from a guy who claims his girlfriend is a whale! haha

    Just STFU! lol

But at Avatarass, yes Mint is the best Ubuntu flavor of Linux..... agreed!

  • Developers developers developers developers developers developers developers developers!

  • I know that song! It's the M$ Windoz Theme song recorded by Steve "Sweathog Monkey Boy" Balmer. But..... yano at least he can't forget the lyrics..... haha xD

  • It's a Machinae Supremacy, free music for free OS System.

  • wack

  • Nice! And to think the hardware's actually quite old...

  • work with ubuntu?

  • It works very well with Ubuntu. If you have questions, I suggest talk to ubuntututorials YouTube Channel! :D

  • I hate Microsoft.

Long live UNIX and the Free Software.

  • when unix became free??

  • @nfguler

Unix is as yet not free! In fact it's way overpriced and the company that owns it is in bankruptcy. There many clones of the OS though. Including BSD, Linux, and many other makers of fully POS Compliant OS Software designers! :D

  • I said the Free Software, not UNIX, learn to read.

  • Being able to read is one thing. lol but some people, twist things to fit their own blind perspective of what you were saying! haha

But your statement is very clear! :P

Linux & Open Source are everywhere you are or ever want to be, but some don't see. Some people don't realize 4instance, that the Web runs on Apache Servers or that majority of Super Computers run Linux & 90% of HPC Clusters run it. Cell Phones, Cars, HDTV's, Satellites, HD Cameras hail Linux King! Open Source? Letum Google it!

  • Sorry but i also use ubuntu right now. But there is some problem with statement. he hates Microsoft because of their money only desire and then long live UNIX. So i just wanted to say what is the difference between Windows and UNIX. if you want me to say also long live free software(especially Mysql and Apache).

  • ()() Q

i cant see now lol god you f wow god dame cool

omg how did you do it plz send me the donload soo i can do it

    mail me a freelandaustin gmail

  • Cool Video.

We are searching for a developer.

  • you must have a pretty sick graphics card

  • read comment.

    he wrote

"running on my secondary comp which is a 4 year old dell with 2.4 ghz P4 proc, Nvidia 6600 GT gfx card, and only 512 megs of RAM."

  • shit... yeh ive finally got it and it actually doesn't use much at all, must be programmed quite well.

  • Actually dude a 6600 isnt all that great xD Its what i use.

  • I still have that computer w/ another hard drive in it. I also have a computer with ATI 4850, AMD Phenom II x4 and it's really fast using Compiz! :D

It's just great how Linux w/ that same GPU could run so well, when a Vista and now Windows 7ista is crap on it!

  • you will be surprised how fast Linux runs (absolutely stunning on HD Monitors) ... on low end hardware ....

  • Awesome!

  • hey

i can do this on ubuntu too?

this requires drivers, or too many programs?

  • Yes you can and it's even better now. This is old video. Below my comment, is "ubuntututorials". He would be the best one to help you get it up and running on your computer!

You can PM him with any questions. I'm not using Ubuntu right now or I'd help you. :D

  • hey man thanks,

  • nice video.. i'll try this one my computer too...

  • Windows is laggy each time you make a modification on it...

What you are seeing on the video can be used on a cheap computer with ubuntu and without any lag, crash bug or I don't know what..

( you can have bugs but only if you use windows applications like wine things ;) ! )

  • I disagree. I used (still using) Linux for a long time and there are many bugs. Not in the operating system but in many of the programs.

  • Yes but all bugs are reported quickly by a huge and "active" community, not by the way of a weird and poor reporting error system that everyone hate ;). Then, you can't ask all programs to be perfect.

I've never said that all programs made on linux, ubuntu, etc.. were perfect. Personnaly I don't have any problem with my compiz today, the last problem that I had is now deleted with the last version of wine x)!

  • lol :D

  • Sidology Ep 2: Trinity, By Machinae Supremacy... tnks Kroneage

  • somebody knows music track please?. thanks

  • I just installed Jaunty three days ago (no experience with Linix at all) and I am loving it!! MikeAK147, this has nothing to do with Vista, fool.

  • This is obviously some sort of Vista plug in. Fools!

  • rofl!! :P

  • Really? It looks more like a Windows 3.1 mod.

  • Oh yeah, I've embarrassed myself!

  • How did you found out!

  • Just common sense, you can't do it in XP because it's too bloated, Vista is the way forward! It's a nice compact, speedy, very stable and Viruses are almost unheard of! Highly recommended IMO.

  • You are out of ur freaking mind lol!

Some history. Before Windows Vista had 3D Special Effects, there was Linux Compiz & Apple OS-X!

This video was taken a yr B4 Vista launch & uploaded 6mo later. As for Vista being even close to either OS-X or Linux is a moronic pipedream (u've been smoking M$ horseshit)!

The reason is OpenGL API's have kicked DirectX to the curb, as the most used set of API's in the World! xD

Stick that in your pipe n smoke it! MILLIONS more on Cell Phones & consoles! :P

  • Hehe I was being ironic, I listed the advantages of Linux and said it was Vista, just joking, Vista is a bloated waste of money/time.

  • I'm actually using Compiz now in Fedora lol! Looks tasty.

  • Vista < XP. Win XP is more stable for me and doesn't have tons of driver problems, or require 1 GB of RAM to even do anything useful.

I prefer Ubuntu over XP or Vista, but if I have to use Windows, or install it for someone, I always use XP or 2k.

  • I tried out Vista with one gig of ram and it too up 800mb while idle, load of rubbish, oh not too mention another 900mb in swap/pagefile usage.

  • I did the same thing but i tweak v ista so much is only uses 468 mb ram when idle still not good thow

  • @ubuntututorials

Yeah... I triple boot Win 7 x64bit, XP and Sabayon Linux x64biton a new AMD Phenom II x4 3200ghz w/ 4gig ram. Win 7ista was good for about a week. Now it's slowed down and is a pain to use just like Vista. So now I just use Sabayon and good old XP. :D ....and Ubuntu on a my netbook!

    @MikeAK147

I haven't tried Fedora for awhile, but I'm going to be installing for a friend and I had SuSE on my old system. XP is still more usable than Vista or 7ista! xD

  • Totally agree.

  • i just love this video!

and yep i saw it 4 years ago and

it was the last thing that i added to the list to change into linux xD

  • man it sucks for some reason i cant install ubuntu 9 its pissing me off... but i still have 8:)

  • You have to be sure you downloaded the proper version for your hardware. If in doubt get the 32bit version as the default install. Also download it from a proper server from like a University and be sure to run md5 check sum on the download before burning it!

This is most likely the reason you're having problems with this install! :D
