I watched Lawrence Welk as a kid and thought the Lennon sisters were so wonderful, couldn't wait each week to watch it. You bet I would go back to those times with so many loving memories, and glad I grew up in those times.
ahhhh yes from the days when gasoline was 21 cent a gallon,a pound of hambuger was 34 cents,a candy bar was a nickle, and some fella named elvis was on the verge of incredible fame. dont you wish you had it back?!!
This is fantastic!! How the Lord blessed this family, and blessed us that we can enjoy their music! Whatever happened to goodness on TV since these women performed on Lawrence Welk??
Janet was such a little star at 9 years old. She was a natural in front of the camera. Dianne is clearly the leader and the epitome of "the girl next door," Peggy the undeniable beauty and Kathy by far the most musical. She really holds the harmony together.
@Drillin4Oil I think you are exactly right. Kathy went on to have the most beautiful voice as they got older. She always wanted to be able to sing like Dee Dee and I think she did that and more !!!
Why don't families sing together any more? I so enjoy watching the Lennon Sisters as well as the King Family. How I pine (I'm sure the younger generation doesn't even know this word) for earlier times when life was (or at least seemed) so simple.
Wow, now to see where they got their start with their Dad and Uncles that also sang as a barbershop quartet. You can see family traits down through the girls. Awesome video!!
Awesome that's where they got the musical background, you can see resemblenses of the uncles to the girls. bet daddy and his brothers sang to his girls as they were young and in their laps.
This brings back some memories. It's so good to see their dad singing with them even knowing later some crazy shot and killed him. How tragic for those sisters.
I believe they were on the Mickey Mouse Club before they got on the Welk show. More than 50 years later, I still remember the MMC performance, (can't find it on YouTube)
The episode you're thinking of occured during MMC's 3rd season in 1957-58. They were the special guests on 'Talent Roundup Friday'. Dressed in cowgirl outfits, they sang a couple of western songs. Annette gave an obviously rehearsed (but I'm sure honestly sincere) comment "The Lennon Sisters are my favorite singing group".
I stand corrected. Thanks, guys and/or gals. Too bad all those old MMC bits aren;t available, but that's one of many problems with the current Disney company.
glad you could stumble through your grief to the keyboard to type some quick youtube comments (most widows don't have the time)
what a saint you must've been to put up with that pompous, poorly educated, pretentious, overweight hick! your misery is over now, and we all celebrate with you!!!
why don't you play some Lennon sisters recordings at his funeral? I'm sure they have some real "up" numbers to keep everyone in their joyous moods!!
He was a saint, nothing less than a saint. Actually, I'd describe as the perfect husband, father and Nobel Prize Winner (yes, he received it for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of talentless children not unlike, I suspect, you). We are indeed playing a Lennon Sisters recording at the cathedral, "The Bernard Proftendieu Waltz."
see their Father and Uncles... I remember years later, when the News reported that their Father had been fatally shot on a Golf Course in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Sorrow of Loss for all Family Members. Thank You for sharing this rare clip.
Thank you for correcting my Mistake. I was commenting on an article that I had read (years before Internet). Have now seen the article Online that corresponds to your comment. Sincerely,Ikesano
Yes, it was a horrible day in August, 1969. The oldest Lennon brother, Dan, witnessed it and had to go home and tell his family. Bill Lennon was a great man. I went to the funeral, as my family and the Lennons are friends. It was a very sad day, but Bill would be proud of all of his children had he lived. God bless them all.
Was privileged to grow up with them, go to same school and church, and be friends with them and their whole family. That was in Venice, CA, about 45 years ago. Their mom used to bake chocolate cake for my wife and me when we would come home to Calif to visit. Beautiful family, one and all...........
To see their beautiful performance of Unchained Melody, which preceded Tumbling Tumbleweeds, enter search Lawrence Welk Unchained Melody. It's an amazing performance!
It was a hopeful time after world war two. It is gone now but you can see the depth the lennon sisters could reach. They sang not only from their hearts but hinted at america at a better time and in a better place.
I was wondering if it was a guy thing or if it's just me...I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who gets choked up and emotional when these wonderful girls sing their fantastic harmonies.
The lennon sister were always my fav of the welk show but never saw this tootage , thanks for listing.

Can one family be anymore talented than this family. I think not long. It proves your either born with it or your not.

There is no way that Kathy was older than Janet. Kathy is the smallest one in the middle. Janet is much taller.

Priceless find. Thank you for it. Janet's hands are fidgeting a bit at first. 30,000,000 people watching and I'm 9 years old. No problem...

Wow, perfection from the first note (about "Tumbling Tumbleweeds").

I don't know...but those home permanents look more like the Lilt brand.
This video explains why the Lennons had so much poise and confidence...as well as singing ability.

Great shows like this were somehow almost like a "reward" for America, which had a daunting job to do in the 1940's.

Their uncle, late ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Sr. ,helped Lennon Sisters with the launch of their career. Meaning Jimmy Jr. is their cousin.

No never! They recieved 210$ a week as a group. The most they ever recieved was 120$ a week as individual singers. So you can see why they left Welk.
