A real easy way is to factor out both denominators.
8 = 2^3. 12 = 2^2 x 3.
Now pull out each prime number with the largest exponent you see. So we would have 2^3 and a 3.
Multiply these two terms together. 2^3 = 8.
8 x 3 = 24, and that is your LCD.
Let me know if you still need more help.
