@robthemetalhead30 "Show me a home where the buffalo roam, and I'll show you a house full of cowshit," - Jasper Carrott. I suppose technically it would be buffalo dung, but cowshit sings better!
@MenCap7 i think it's realising you'll never have that time again. innocence, simple pleasures in watching stuff like this, days that seem to last forever as opposed to waking up one morning and finding out that your childhood ended nearly 20 years ago
@CYMRUTUBE2 yeah - Mum'd walk me home from nursery, we'd sit and have dinner. watch either this on Childrens BBC or Rainbow on Childrens ITV and then i'd just play for the rest of the afternoon... : )
going through some of the clips of old childrens tv here on youtube from the early to mid eighties when i was very little - i'll be 29 in march - just makes me feel like crying...
Broadcast first in the year I was born. I just about remember this show. I distinctly remember an episode with a flood and they're all stranded on the top floor of a block of flats. Used to watch this and Cockleshell Bay. Good times.
@DrChalkwithering Cockleshell Bay used to be one of my favourites, that and Portland Bill; we were spoilt. I remember the episode up on the roofs too, good stuff.
Used to love this when I was younger (they sometimes used to let us kids watch it at my old primary school).
Of course, if it was to be a little more authentic, the pigeons would no doubt be crapping all over the people's heads in the intro, but enough controversy.
I loved this cartoon, it was one of my faves, it used to come on just after sesame street I think, just after I'd had my ravioli. After Pidgeon street I would have my nap and then it would be time to pick up my sister from school- and of course we walked!
pigeon street was on at a weird time, you had to pretend you were ill and skive the day off skool to watch it,trouble was you had to watch pebble mill earlier on which was shite.. but still it beat making plastercene models at skoo....long live 80s cartoons
@molly6971 oh god yeah it came on at about 1:30 or 2 pm whatever but still it was a crap time cos unless you were ill or skiving, school would not be out so you could watch it......and I sadly remember Pebble Mill oh my god I feel old lol
Lockets are hard boiled sweets with a soft centre - usually eaten when you're suffering with a sore throat ie. common cold! And Lucozade is probably the most famous energy drink of all time - originally made by a Chemist in Newcastle to provide a boost to those people suffering with any illness. Hence why she might of been eating lockets and drinking Lucozade whilst watching Pigeon Street ie. off School! I remember it well myself.. can't believe there were only 13 episodes though! Incredible!
Here's why there were only 13 episodes: it was one of the first UK cartoons with multi racial characters, and the BBC didn't know how to commercialize the series. Bear in mind it was the 80's - all cartoons had merchandise, & the Beeb felt the public were not ready for black action figures...their loss.
I had a varied memory of this show, to start with I was terrified of it, i think the way the eyes of the character were really big and dark, and so i'm told (like the cliche) I literally hid behinfd the sofa!
Somewhere down the line i completely changed and this became my fave ever prog.
when i was at uni i got it from someone on eBay all episodes on dvd!
I loved Pigeon Street. Used to watch it all the time 26 years ago as a 4 year old! I'm 30 now, I can still remember this intro and the Long Distance Clara song. Brilliant!
i regularly try to converse with the local pigeons by doing synth-tom sounds like that. rude set of bastards by the way, never bother with me half the time :(
oh my god!! i had totally forgotten this! And did anyone else recognise long distance clara in the intro there?! Shes the only character i can remember
@NameNotaNumber Totally and utterly agree, is way more advanced than the electronic overproduced theme tunes we get nowadays on kids programmes. This was real quality music throughout. A lot of the band were jazzers, became the group known as the "Guest Stars"
