  • I do love Konata's flat "I don't give a %^&*" voice in English, but the few times she actually does get expressive in the Japanese version, she doesn't come through in the English. So I guess I'd be undecided.

The otehr characters sound better in Japanese though IMO, especially Kagami. Still not a bad dub though.

  • no no, Konata´s voice (English) don´t have that "stupid" innocence of japanese, Miyuki don´t sound cute sound more like shy, Kagami, too much noose voice, Tsukasa, is the best, good work with that character, but, i dont see the sense to dub Lucky Star is too much excesed of Japanese jokes, and, if you dont have an "anime school" you can´t understand a lot of jokes (in the japanese version, the English version i dont know, i dont watch it, i speak spanish) but, that is my opinion

  • personaly i think the biggest problem is for people moving from sub to dub, they kinda get whiplash from the change in voices. Kinda ironic when Konota is talking about 'the best of both worlds' with radio-plays and anime ect.

But i think thier voices are good, i dont mind this Wendy Lee ... but Patrica .. -_- ... it honestly sounds like a guy trying to fake a womans voice.

  • @QBAlchemist VEry true about the whiplash, in the few animes I've watched start to finish, I have to watch it in the language I first heard it in or it's just weird.

  • I like Konata's english voice better, i like both the english and Japanese on Kagami, and the japanese voices are better on the other two who's name I forgot.

  • Dubs in this case are a lot better to me, granted some shows just shouldn't be dubbed or at least the cast should be relooked at before deciding to cast them to play the parts. The english dub of this, along with Hellsing OVA (what there is) seem to fit quite perfectly and seem to be ment to be.

  • I like English dub wayyyyy better

  • @luvkiba15 you shouldn't

  • i like the english dub better!!!

lucky star is the only anime where im ok with english dub. all the other ones make me want to scream!!1

  • sub>dub!

  • Best English dub I've heard yet. I avoided English dubs since I finished Gundam Seed. God, those voices were horrible...

  • I actually prefer the English one over the Japanese one. Not sure why.

  • luv it!

  • lol fat american cannot do anything so off course the japanese one is 19999999999999999999999999999999 better

  • @NarutoRocks2011 Was that seriously necessary?

  • kagamine's voice sounds exactly the same in japanese and engilsh

  • @stellaandreanna

is not, but close to it

  • @alainediema oh

  • The Japanese is so much better.

  • @StarlingClarice1

    Isn't it always;D

  • NOT THIS ARGUMENT AGAIN!!!

  • The dub of Lucky Star is actually pretty damn good. Granted,I was a bit taken aback when I heard Konata's voice for the first time (considering all I had seen/heard up until that point was Konata's japanese voice so I didn't expect it to come out the way it did) but it quickly grew on me. I especially love Miyuki's english voice. To me,it totally fits her :)

  • Problum i have with the english dub is... well Konata sounds like bart simpson.

  • @hui432102 You just ruined the whole show for me

  • @Firebolt68 Watch in japanese then!

  • I think this question English Dub vs the Orginal Japanese voice acting is rather relative to the person. Like digimon, I was brought up on the english dub and probably wouldn be able to deal with the japanese dub. Or it could be the opposite were I didn't like Hunter X Hunter ENG Dub because I watched the original many times. Same with this, I like the English dub because I found it before the original Japanese voice acting.

  • The best part is that Konata had the same voice actress as Haruhi in English and Japanese.

  • The English dub is pretty fine. Considering that there is no such thing as a "perfect" English dub... at least I never saw one!

  • Kari Whalgreen sounds almost exactly like Kagami's original seiyuu... it's nearly perfect in pitch and emotion and everything. I don't see why everyone hates it.

  • I like the dub. It's like Kagami says - so long as the voices fit the characters it's okay. Konata sounds like an otaku, Kagami sounds sarcastic, Tsukasa sounds kinda spaced out and Miyuki sounds cutesy. It WORKS!

Also, stop going on about the Japanese version being 'cuter' - not everyone needs a cutesy voice. Take Konata, for example - she is meant to be a sort of tomboyish otaku, that character description does not scream 'cutesy voice' to me

  • The translation seems to be really good, but it's virtually impossible to really find voice actors for the dubs who fit the characters as much as the original's do. No matter how hard they try (and they obviously DID try very hard vor Lucky Star), it just doesn't compare. I don't think they could possibly have done any better but I'll still chose the fansubs over everything else. Still, good to know there are publishers out there who really know how to do their job.

  • japanese is cuter but i dont speak japanese so i prefer english even tho theres subtitles i dont like reading i only read manga

  • I like the japanese better! XP

  • japanese is way better the americans dubs are as if theyre making of fun of the show and japanese people fucking yankees

  • @moad to be honest there's an in-joke with Japan about that.. I'll leave it to you to figure it out >.>

  • Actually, I felt the English voices fit the characters better than the Japanese ones did. But that's only my opinion.

  • I actually like the english dub better. Konata's voice is less cute, but it fits her personality better. Tsukasa and Miyuki are more spacey, and kagami is more sarcastic. I feel as though the english actors were more into it while dubbing. I also feel that the cast they chose had the same vocal undertones as the original.

But of course, the ruined Patty. Especially since I love her character so much.

But all the same, I prefer the english, but the japanese is amazing as well.

  • The dub is better if you ask me. (except Patty, obviously)

  • JAPANESE IS BETTER

  • I like both. The only place I really prefer one over the other is Kagami's Japanese voice, but her English voice isn't bad, either.

  • at 1:39 why did they switch the direction they were facing?

  • i like english better

  • hmmm it both good in english and japanese

  • lol i love it

  • well....i still prefer the japanese version...

dunno why...the voices match better with the characters

  • To be honest... I like the lucky star dub better than the original japanese

  • best dub for me is Samurai Champloo

  • the best dubbed anime of all time in my opinion is gurren lagann

  • I personally prefer to watch dubs over subs (Mostly because I don't like reading my anime) and really,in terms of voices,I'm not really picky,so as long as the main point is getting across,I'm OK with it.

  • of course everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but i think, compared to other eng dubs, lucky star had the best by far, excluding patty as always. the original with subs is always awesome as well of course.

  • I've never heard some one sound like that in english...

  • Japanese is BETTER

  • Wow that was pretty damn good dubing!!! ^_^

  • If it's a decent dub, I'll watch it over the sub as I would actually like to watch the anime instead of gluing my eyes to the bottom of the screen so I can know what the hel is going on.

  • The dub was good. Except for Patty. THEY KILLED PATTY. WHY?!? (sobs)

  • 1:38 weird slight mistake...

  • to me it depends on which i see 1st, but as long as the voices match the characters then dubs are fine also if the censors dont completly screw it up

  • to be honest i like both dub and sub =3

  • FUCKING EMOTE!

  • Pleasantly surprising, I thought. I could count on one hand the number of dubs that didn't feel strained vs their japanese original counterparts to my ears. This one's one of them.

  • dubbed anime sucks

  • its obvious that kids watch sub just to make them fell hardcore FAIL

  • You're entitled to your own opinion.

But spreading negativity like 'I hate the ___ language dub' is a waste of time that you should spend somewhere else.

  • The english dub was very, very good.

Except for Patrica. By heck her voice made me want to scream.

    I love Kagami's English voice.

  • @AmyRoseAisha

Same XD In the English dub, since Patty is an exchange student from America, Patty has a kind of weird sounding voice. Its kinda hard to explain but her Japanese is different sounding. DX Im not good at explaining things, but you probably already know XD

  • @AmyRoseAisha same here XD

  • @AmyRoseAisha yea she sounds like Princess Peach on speed

  • I can't stand the English Dub -_-;

  • The original is ALWAYS better.

After you watch original japanese videos and anime, you CANNOT be happy with a dub.

At least I just can't. They shouldn't even exist ._.

  • @AguzzLa22 Not always.

  • This wasn't the worst dub I've ever seen, but the Japanese original always sounds better.

  • The dub isn't bad! You just have to stop being a weeaboo and appreciate it for what it is. Lucky Star, Haruhi, DBZ; it doesn't matter the language, the point is that the story gets across and you have a good time watching, right? Don't compare them; take them as individual art forms and appreciate both as they are.

**Also, I don't think you should be allowed to diss a language if you can't speak it

    >.<

  • why does the japanese quality is much better than the english quality, it sucks ><

  • 0:42 tsukasa was nearly kidnapped by paul pheonix

  • When they speak in Japanese, they sound so cute.

When they speak in english, they sound so sarcastic. XD

I think I prefer the Japanese one. O:

  • @CoffeePrincess32 i couldn't put my finger on the english one's voices but your exactly right

  • JAPANESE FTW!!

    NO ENGLISH ALLOWED!!

  • they both are good

  • it feels like the quality of dubs has drop since the toonami days, I prefer watching dbz, yu yu hakusho, and cyborg 009 (along with some others) in dub over sub but for some reason i cant stand the new stuff that's been dub like get backers, naruto, and this . They just don't feel right too me almost like its not natural and there's no emotion or the words don't flow right. I hope its just me. but thumps up if you feel the same.

  • Japanese is much cuter!! :3

  • I think that the problem isn't the dub, is from Konata's voice... her particullary and strange voice lol

    TImoteiiiiiii

  • I don't care what the english voices are as long as I don't have to read a bunch of stupid subtitles.

  • I love lucky star i've watched it 12 time xD both voices are completly normal to me for each character..

and patty's voice.. i can match it if i try ^^

  • Have to remember that dubs are limited by matching up to the lip flaps also. Pretty good English dub for LS.

  • I don't care what you people say. Don't diss on the dub just because it's a dub. Personally, Lucky Star (and Haruhi) are some of the best dubs I've seen. The voices are great, and lines match pretty close to the original. So, I like both.

  • Japanese sounds way better

  • I personally like them both the same. As lon as the voices match I could care less what version Im watching

  • I like konotas tounge

  • I think people, maybe I'm crazy, just like the subbed script better than the English script. The choice of words and all that jazz. Personally, I could care less if I'm listening to Japanese or English, but I go for the one that seems to have the better writing. Voices tend to be good on both ends of the spectrum, so I tend to not have to worry about that. However, I've found that English dubs are easier to understand and spell it out a little clearer (of course that's the case, being American).

  • Konata sounds like she has a cold or something

  • i think the voices are pretty good on both ends, i dont understand the whole subs vs dubs . i think you should just watch whichever one makes you happy

  • the english dub fails.

    utterly.

except for the "coming" at the end. xD

  • I like both versions, but probably the dub more because I find the jokes funnier

  • @MsTamable it's the language differences, huh.

  • 日本版ではなく、私は非常にまったくあまり好きではないダブ魔女英語の元の私だけのよう。日本より音良いと、元のも理解しやすいものです

  • In English, is Kagami voiced by the same person that voiced Kairi in Digimon?

  • voice actors(resses) put the sarcasm in different places in the two languages, it incourages me to watch both versions

  • I personally like the dub voices better (based on this, I mean. I've only seen the series dubbed) except for the blonde foreign girl (I think her name was Patty), who sounded like a demented Mickey Mouse. >.< I think it's funny that only Miyuki's voice sounds similar in both versions...

  • I like the English dub better. :<

  • i like the jap verison better konta's voice is cuter!

  • Konata sounds like Ash from Pokemon in the dub.

    Fuck no, burn this.

  • lolz miyiku san's voice sounds horrible in english, but konata's sounds awesome ... hav u ever noticed how the long haired purple girl sounds like angelica from rugrats?

  • xD the quality is so different, it's much more clear sounding in the japanese one

  • Actually, in terms of dialogue, I felt that I could switch between English and Japanese and never miss a thing. For the English-written dialogue, the voices matched pretty well, and the acting was superb. The only way you're going to get the English voices to sound the exact same is if you get the Japanese actresses to learn flawless English >.<

All in all, I thought it was a well-made dub

  • @JessiPirateLove I'd agree with that I think I'll still watch it dubbed. The glasses girl (I've not watched the series yet only clips so I don't remember half the casts names.) sounded a bit weird in the dub though. It was very breathy. :/

  • @JessiPirateLove Actually, has there ever BEEN an anime where the Japanese voice acters learn FLAWLESS English and do the english Dub to?

  • @JessiPirateLove I was like-wise impressed. You usually get that with laid back school comedies. L*S in particular since it is litterally about nothing. Seriously did you ever notice how this is the only school comedy with no hook,, gimmic, or prevailing plot?

  • @halfdogderek It's awesome. It's pointing out the funny things in life, everyday life. Like, you don't have to watch the episodes in order or even all at once to understand what's going on. That's why I love Lucky Star...it's lighthearted enough to give me a break from the more serious shows.

  • @JessiPirateLove And lets face it. We ALL know a "Konata" irl

  • @halfdogderek Or we ARE the Konata irl.... *cough*

  • @JessiPirateLove Is that an admission of guilt ^_~

  • @halfdogderek oh no...never guilt XD

  • Well to be fair this series was probably next to impossible to dub because there are so many Japanese culture-related jokes in it that it's almost impossible to keep every strand of humor intact wile still making sense to English-speaking cultures. I think they did the best they could with the Lucky Star Dub.

  • I think the dub was perfect! I liked how they left in the honorifics.

  • @HeeHeeHappenings It's just the video.

  • Did they get little boys to do the English voice acting?

  • Hmmm its really hard but in the japanese version miyuki sounds more innocent but i love konata`s and kagami`s dub (dont judge me)

  • English voices rock!

  • The dub is sooo much better. The characters have a lot more emotion in there voices and the words are better phrased. Like when Konata unleashed her combo attack and when Kagami aksed if she could stop and think for a second.

  • 0:36-0:50

    Okay, that was awesome XD

And now I'm off to watch lucky star...after I finish Girls Bravo.

  • Personally I didn't mind the English Dub......the only voice i didn't like in the Dub was Patty's.

  • @FonzysRevenge I HATED HER TOO. >:(

  • @FonzysRevenge

    yeah, was she annoying!!!

  • Lucky Star was one of the best dubs I've ever seen. Screw you people who hate it only because it's dubbed, it was actually good. Except for Patty's voice. Fucking hate Patty's voice. Dx

  • @qix03 I am with you on that one

  • @qix03 100% agreed.

  • @qix03 You mean Ptatricia martiin's voice xD?

  • @qix03 is patty that girl who sound like se has a whistle stuck in her throat? or just becasue she has a very airy voice >o>?

  • @DieDunceSudios Patty isn't in this video. She's introduced later in the series, and in the dub, she sounds like Mickey Mouse. Seriously. What the hell.

  • @qix03 i agree, pattys voice annoys me so much

  • @qix03 I'm guessing Patty's the one who sounds like princess peach...HAHAHA

  • Would you people stop complaining about the dubs? Honestly there are WAY worse dubs than this out there! This one is actually well done.

  • @marleyanddalton I agree especially for Karin

  • The dub and sub are both funny, so stop being weeaboos about it. Honestly, some people treat dubs like we're still in the 1980's.

  • I don't really care if their voice actor sucks. I only care if they did the funny parts right.

  • I didn't think it was bad

  • i think this is the only anime where i think both the original and dub fit trhe characters perfectly and i can watch either without a problem ^^

  • meh Couldn't care less about the dubs, This show still pwns :P

  • Do we all have to freak out because they're dubbing an anime? I prefer the English better though because subtitles confuse me. And while the Japanese is going to sound more natural, it doesn't mean that it completely dominates. For all the weeabos out there: Deal with them dubbing it, dubs don't always suck, and some English dubs in Japan are more popular than the original (Such as FullMetal Alchemist for example, Japanese PREFER the English Dub because it is that good)

  • @Meeperish

really? japanese prefer the english dub of full metal alchemist? wow, I did not know about that. any links for your claim there so that I can also check it out?

  • @Darkdaemonofsampol They do. Another YouTuber said that. His name is UltimateUKffFan

  • @Meeperish ultimateukfffan is awesome though

  • I think the "Lucky Star" at the very end is what made me finally snap.

  • Lucky Star and Haruhi were the first animes I watched in English Dubs(Besides Pokemon), and I was like wow, the voices are actually pretty good and match their characters. Then I watched every other anime out there with an English Dub and I was like wow. But what I'm trying to say is, the dub quality here is just...superb. And just because I watched the dub first, I'm kind of devoted to it, just because it was actually good.

  • i like the dub better personally! but the japanese version is higher quality picture

  • Is there even a question about which one is better? If I were an acting teacher, I would show the English version to my pupils and make them promise to never sound that mono-tone as long as they live. Seriously, these actors sound like they have something shoved up their...

  • @innerchihiro All these clips are from the first episode(s?) where the dub actors weren't at their best. Take a random scene a couple of episodes in, compare both versions and it's the japanese voice that's monotonous. You guys don't know what you're missing out on.

  • wowzes!!!! that really neat man....

  • English dub is better

    god damn weeaboos

  • @Ultizer its your opinion, your the one being a dick about it -.-

  • I know this old not all dub is bad thier are some good ones. I still perfer japanese subs they sound better and have better comedy in japanese even if you don't know japanese thats what the subtitles are for those who can't understand. Don't just watch anime dub because if you dont want to read i got use to it not mind at all.

  • @darkdantex99

I want to fucking suck your dick for writing that comment, it was so hilariously brilliant.

  • kagami english voice fails...

  • The pronounciation of japanese names in English HORRIBLE!

  • The more stuff about this I watch, the more scared I am of wanting to watch the series. I already need to watch all of the Pokemon episodes in English up to where we are now, I need to finish up Sailor Moon, AND I need to get back on track with Bakugan. -.- That's only the ANIME.

  • @dankuso24 dude thats like over pokemon 500 episodes good luck

    lol bakugan. sailor moon ftw

  • @kinganondorf It's okay, I love POKEMON! I've been watching it for, like, 7 years, (not trying to watch them all for 7 years, just watching the new episodes each week) I have tons of the games, and I'm SOOOO excited to watch the Johto saga of it again, so once I finish the season I'm on now, I'll be on it, and I'll be CONSTANTLY WATCHING :D

  • The original sounds a lot more realistic to the characters, because well, it is. The dub isn't that bad though. Some parts don't match but others are nicely done.

  • Japanese sounds a lot more kawaii :3

  • its relative to the time you first hear it if you heard japanese voice before the dubbed one you would probably like the japanese one better. in my case i like animes in their original voices just like everything else!ç

    Movies series anime etc.

  • lol "....................... coming"

  • The Japanese is long better.

  • The voices fit them pretty well!! :3 But the Japanese version is better, I have to say!

  • i like the japanese voices better, but the english dubs fit the characters more i think <3

  • @0Macaroni0 its relative to the time you first hear it if you heard japanese voice before the dubbed one you would probably like the japanese one better. in my case i like animes in their original voices just like everything else!

  • their voices kinda fit them, theyre better than naruto voice overs

  • Don't know how people could be so emphatically behind the Japanese voices being better. It's not surprising though really. In Japan a lot of people watch English dubs of anime like Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop and prefer them to the Japanese dubs. Maybe people are just more prone to believe the acting is good when they can't understand what the Voice Actor is actually saying. Maybe part of the fictional immersion is hearing different cultures voices. Anyway English dubs are very popular in Japan.

  • @AnimeIntroStyles4

I think it's that people assume Japanese dubs are perfect.

English voice acting in Western cartoons or Western video games can often be pretty bad. The Japanese probably assume it's perfect. XD

  • @LeFatTurkey Yeah, it's just a matter I think of wanting a manga with moving pictures, because once they actually understand what the characters are saying in Anime some people just seem to automatically dislike it more.

  • @AnimeIntroStyles4 and by manga with moving pictures I mean they need the subtitles there.

  • @AnimeIntroStyles4 Actually, I think the whole thing is that japan anime has a lot of over the top reactions, and a lot of the time english dubbers don't get those reaction voices as well as they could. seriously, DBZ was a godsend with the actors but Naruto dubs aren't anywhere near as good

  • @Rintro Yeah. DBZ and Naruto are not the shining examples I would point to...

  • Why was the theme song playing in the background of all the english ones?

  • that's why you need to watch the dubbed and not the subbed cuz the dubbed is manufactured and the subbed is fan done.
