its not realy which is better, but if your looking stock its ltr they come pretty much race ready and need little motor change as the yfz need a lot more motor tuning for motocross.. i race an ltr 450 at nationals and i like it better than the yfz i used to ride cause of the way it handles but its all dependant on the rider not always the quad.
ok ok....i really love to ride iv been riding since iv been 5 im 14 now with a 400ex i no i no 400ex's r turds but i want to get a yfz and hopefully get some racing done...iv never raced before and im kinda iffy on the jumps....if any suggestions plzz help

lol!! i have been riding dirt bikes since i was 4.i own a quad zilla and its way easier to ride that then my cr500 you sit down hit the gas and lean you have four tires to use.on a dirt bike only two and your working twice as hard to keep it upright.not to mention i ride through trails most people would have a hard time walking on. that a quad would never make it 10 feet my point is it took me years to master a bike and only one hour to master a quad

@702dirtrider...agreed, but put the guy jumping 100 foot on a bike and ask him to hit that on a quad, or even 80 feet. I think it takes ALOT more to get the basic skills, but once those skills are mastered it takes ALOT less to be able to do the more extreme thing on a dirtbike.

@180boyz your right and wrong... you need more balls to ride a quad but more skill to ride a bike. although to race a quad is much harder then a bike for one extreme reason that bikes are a grip smoother and much more nimble. and i'd love to ride that 686 stroke, my friend has his raptor set up for the dunes with a 720 stroke the things a beast, my yfz 450 set up to race desert has a very hard time keeping up with him. nothing about the bikes just yfz 450's run outa top end fast =/

@dirtbikeracer24 Here's what i think. I think it is easier to ride a dirtbike FAST, than a quad FAST. now, if we're just talking about messing around, a quad is much easier to ride at a slower pace. If you think about how many great dirtbike riders there are at a mx track on any given day, and how many there great quad riders there are, the quads definately come out on the bottom. I think its much harder to ride a mx track fast on a quad, just because of how heavy they are. just my 2 cents.

tha track is not very good for passing first of all, 2nd normally if u can continually stay right behind tha guy but u cant get around him u probly are faster , tha guy in front is just barely fast enough to keep tha guy behind him from making a pass, im sure if the guy on tha ltr had of passed him he would have pulled away

3rd gerar blows out almost as soon as you start to ride it hard. i have 2 friends that have 2 ltr450 each one is the race bike and the other is the practice bike and they had to change 3rd gear in both of ther bikes.
Mad people argue about the quads. Both have work done to them and it's on a track. So the YFZ probably has more money put into it with a better rider.

You do make a good point about the LTR-450 being the best for a while. Yamaha has answered this with the yfz450r which is true competition for the ltr-450
LTRs and YFZs are both great machines. IMO the ltr is a better trail machine b/c of reverse. they are both great on the track as log as theyre set up right what matters is how they're set up. EFI is NOT meant to give more power, its meant to give better throttle response and broader power. EFI is easier to set up because you can adjust it any way you want, its so tunable. personally i probably wouldnt buy a yfz because a lot of my riding isn't on a track and reverse is very helpful in XC.
im not trying to put down yamaha there 2009's are so nice and there a good i like wimmer so i like suzuki thats why i bought an ltr 450 over the yamaha there both a badass ride

in the past its been the ltr by a longshot but now yamaha has introduced the new yfz450r which runs about the same setup as the ltr. stock susp. set up for moto and long travel front and rear stock. id say that by the end of this year the yfz will be back on top

both bikes are pretty outstanding. I had a hard time deciding wich 08' one to buy. I went with the Zuk after a test ride. I felt more comfortable with it. I had an 06 also and it is true they definatly have better power (stock-wise) starting in 08. I guess I would have bought a KTM if I had 10 grand though. Those bikes are definatly King of the 450's.

The LTR 450 is a beast, been on one a few days ago, they are fucking sick!! My cousin who has been on bikes since he was little was going sidewards round a long bend and hit a brick. He was off and the bike was gone. It was bad. he's only like 5:6.

well the guy on the ltr was on his ass 90% of the race, and i wouldnt go as far as much better, its better but not by much. i would like to see you get out there and ride like that.

i wouldnt mind either if i had the money. but if i was to spend my money on anything it would be the zuke. cuz they are race ready in my opinion. the yamies allways have the softest suspension stock. and i dont know about you but i jump pretty damn high and i like my bikes stock. i have a lt230r 1986 lol its still ok its really mine its my dads. my bike i own is a CRF250r but the lt230 is nice i just cleaned the carb cuz the main jet was cloged. and now its so smooth. kicks 1 time after prime

but the transmissions suck in the ltr
3rd gerar blows out almost as soon as you start to ride it hard. i have 2 friends that have 2 ltr450 each one is the race bike and the other is the practice bike and they had to change 3rd gear in both of ther bikes.

LTRs and YFZs are both great machines. IMO the ltr is a better trail machine b/c of reverse. they are both great on the track as log as theyre set up right what matters is how they're set up. EFI is NOT meant to give more power, its meant to give better throttle response and broader power. EFI is easier to set up because you can adjust it any way you want, its so tunable. personally i probably wouldnt buy a yfz because a lot of my riding isn't on a track and reverse is very helpful in XC.

in the past its been the ltr by a longshot but now yamaha has introduced the new yfz450r which runs about the same setup as the ltr. stock susp. set up for moto and long travel front and rear stock. id say that by the end of this year the yfz will be back on top

both bikes are pretty outstanding. I had a hard time deciding wich 08' one to buy. I went with the Zuk after a test ride. I felt more comfortable with it. I had an 06 also and it is true they definatly have better power (stock-wise) starting in 08. I guess I would have bought a KTM if I had 10 grand though. Those bikes are definatly King of the 450's.

The LTR 450 is a beast, been on one a few days ago, they are fucking sick!! My cousin who has been on bikes since he was little was going sidewards round a long bend and hit a brick. He was off and the bike was gone. It was bad. he's only like 5:6.
