What I love about this show is their absolutely flawless ability to dig up some of America's most stupid people and convince them to spend their vacation tromping around some ruins DESPERATELY grasping for the most tenuous of links between things in the best traditions of conspiracy theory and confirmation bias everywhere. Pure entertainment! :D

@8584zender Um, Mayans are still around? You're thinking of the Aztecs. The Mayans left their cities and returned to the jungle many years before the first white explorers arrived, probably due to disease. There are still groups of Mayan descendants that live in Mexico. Look it up.

I like Adam Carolla's take on the doomsdayers. We put a shotgun pointed at your head with a timer to pull the trigger about an hour after your predicted end of times. If you're right, well, no big deal right? If you're wrong, we never have to listed to your garbage again.
I saw a very good conference at college about this sort of pseudo-scientific bullshit and how to debunk them. Well, we already have philosophy class for that but some people are just pretty damn stupid and naive to eat up that shit...

Hell, we were even told on the news recently that virologists are attempting to combine two deadly viruses to create a new, highly contagious super-virus.
Again, snarling, brain-eating zombies may only be Hollywood fiction (as far as we know), but a similar prospect is entirely possible. Frighteningly so.

In fact, at the present time, Rabes is about as close to all-out Hollywood "zombification" as we can be. The victim becomes hostile and physically aggressive (among various other disturbing symptoms), and the virus can be transmitted through bite-wounds.
