He was hardly the best ever. His idle was Buddy Rich and Buddy smoked this guy at ever aspect of the drums. So did many others of his era. Like Billy Cobham and Tony Williams. Rock Drumming is so second tier compared to jazz and jazz fusion. You tube is there to prove this point just search and watch.

Thanks for your comment... The audio soundtrack is me,Russel Labadie playing with Zep tribute band... Michael White & The White... I married the audio to my beloved gathering of John Henry Bonham pictures... The drums i used at that concert in Burlington,Ontario,Canada back in 1991 were genuine 1973 Ludwig drums, same year as Bonham's but not same serial numbers. I carried 2 tympanis and a 28in Paiste gong, that's why it kinda sound the same...

sounds good, what better artist to give a tribute to than the master of his realm, BONHAM! all other drummers jumped off his shoulders to become what they are. I admit that bonham got some inspiration from buddy rich though. pound on!

Actually Buddy Rich was quoted as stating that John Bonham was the only drummer to ever show him a thing or two. So yeah the inspiration was there, but he invented his own definition of technicality by far.
