Brilliant film!!! One of the best films I've seen in the last couple of years. Don't confuse this film with Van Helsing dribble, It's 100% better in every way.

I believe it isn't available in the states for some distributes reason. I would highly recommend importing this film.There's something on the directors blog about the delay.

One only wonders why this movie hasn't been released in America. Presently, on HBO, they are showing "Kull the Conqueror". "Conan 2011" is about to be released. Since "Game of Thrones" has been renewed for a second season, the beginnings of an REH miniseries is continuing its filming. Although I do not know the specifics, look for this to be released next Spring.

To be honest, I don't like Fantasy movies (I prefer Sci-Fi) but this movie blew me away - very interesting storyline, nice visual effects, great acting. James Purefoy was brilliant as Solomon. I like the idea that the main warrior/killer/hero was religious. Rachel Hurd-Wood was stunning as well. "Solomon Kane" is interesting, sometime even shocking and criminally underrated movie. I hope they will make a sequel

@zovkus If you're on about the bird masks, they were believed to protect people from the Bubonic Plague (Black Death if I'm not mistaken) but were only used as like a superstitious thing. I may be wrong, but that's what I think they were for. They could have another use or meaning though in the film.

According to Wikipedia, people of the day wrongly believed that the black death was being transmitted and spread by birds. Since Superstition abounded in the 14th century , it follows that if one dresses like a bird, the plague could be drawn away from the sick and on to the bird’s clothing (keep in mind medical science was non-existent at this time, they did what they could).

@zovkus Everything but one fact is true about this, they did believe the illness came from birds and dressed like them to keep well, but they did have 'doctors' they where the ones who dressed in the bird masks since 99% of their times was spent around the sick. this of them like hasmat masks. Though they hardly helped, it was how you could tell who the doctors where. Most of it was also superstition and they couldn't cure a damn thing lol.

I saw a screening of this movie about 1 month ago. The movie is well written and crafted. The lighting is beautiful. By the end of the first act you have bought into the story. I will see full movie on kookíca now. Well acted period piece.

I loved it. I saw it on kookicá today. The twist wasn't pointed towards the audience, it was pointed towards the characters increasingly deep understanding of one another as reflections. I believe this film to be an excellent examination of duality and the fundamental mystery/wonder of reality.

@yOzHiiToO It's not actually a creature but a plague or beak doctor. They would often be called on to treat cases of the bubonic plague and would wear specialised clothing, wooden examining sticks and masks, the "nose" of which contained special herbs and acted like a surgical mask

Just finished watching this film, first heard about it on a movie review on Rue Morgue Radio. Really good movie, I highly recommend it! Excellent blend of sword fighting, gun fighting, and magic, plus the monsters were very cool! Hope there will be a sequel!
