if you can't understand the French and I'm not much mistaken, that's because she's not singing in French! These songs were collected in the original Occitan. Adichatz!
Sheer glory! I'm going to ask my wife if I could put her on the free pass list along with Angelina. Don't care how old she is... singing like that is just plain hot!
My wife and I have been very moved by this piece of music which we discovered by chance on a compilation cd. We played this at our wedding day along with Vaughan Williams, "The Lark Ascending." Perfect, perfect, perfect.
We played this at my father's funeral this weekend. I had never heard it before.magical. i have never been so overcome with emotion with such a piece of music and memories of my wonderful dad. so sad he's gone xx
June 15th 2007 at 5am, I had just given birth to our daughter Mariaske in our living room. The early morning sun was just burning the dawn mist off the lawn outside the open french doors, my new baby was resting on my chest between my breasts her cord waiting to be cut. From the speakers this wonderful, lovely music made it one of those very very few absolutely perfect moments in life.

@vanderroos What an absolutely wonderful picture you have just painted for me. You not only gave birth to your daughter, you have just given a brand new lease of life to a middle aged man by your story. I am eternally grateful. I am sure you will be a wonderful mother, and I wish you and your family the very best of health. Much love, Mark X

@stookiebhoy Mariaske is 3 now and I have had a son since. I played this on the day of his birth as well, but not until much later. Our other three kids were all on our bed with me and new little Joost - it was snowing like hell outside - and I was watching my wife nurse him. For many reasons he was a very special birth and seeing her nurse him and hearing that music again was both sweet and painful.
extraordinary voice, Dame Te Kanawa knows very well how to interpret these chant´s composed between 1923-1954 by french Cantaloube, traditional chants from that country's region of Auvergne
I wept the first time I heard this and it still affects me. I only widh I knew what she was singing about. Anyone know where I can find a translation?
@oicwhatyoudid : here is a translation: Shepherd across the river, You're hardly having a good time, Sing baïlèro lèrô No, I'm not, And you, too, can sing baïlèro Shepherd, the meadows are in bloom. You should graze your flock on this side, Sing baïlèro lèrô The grass is greener in the meadows on this side, Baïlèro lèrô Shepherd, the water divides us, And I can't cross it, Sing baïlèro lèrô Then I'll come down and find you, Baïlèro lèrô

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is so lovely! What fabulous vocal technique coupled with splendid focus and artistic expression. Hearing this makes me glad to be alive.
I have loved this piece sung by KTK since 1987 when I first heard it at 15.

I hear this song as treading the line between happiness and melancholy. It's a beautiful feeling.

Brava Dame Kiri!

Good, but her voice just doesn't fit it as well as Anna Moffo's rendition.
