  • Dang. Just dang.

  • He was a God on the toms and snare but a melodic crap noob on melodic cymbal usage. His cymbal strokes have no system, no melody, no mathmatic structure, just effect-crap.

  • yes father, your will shall be done... holy crap

  • God .. its God

  • THE REAL DEAL wow love this guy

  • Most people think "wow, he can play fast." That's not the source of his skill, only part of it. He obviously played in a percussion/band class in school, and marched in his high school drumline/ college drumline. Learning these essential rudiments and practice techniques makes you a better drummer!

  • @wootzone - Actually Buddy was a child prodigy that claimed not to have received any formal instruction and often boasted that he never practiced. He was playing with vaudeville bands at 18 months old. Buddy was a freak of nature. Almost all of his skill was dervied from playing with professional players from an extremely young age.

  • @wootzone haha...ummmm really?

  • how can people even think about touching the dislike button?

  • This is the Bomb..Nick Rich..you can only dream of being 1/4 of your Grandfather.

  • He's so fast that when the video SHOWS him holding the crash after hitting it he's actually already doing the toms

  • This guy was probably the worst kid on his High School Drumline, if his drumline was anything like ours. You suck, you get torn apart and you practiced till you were God tier.

    He's pretty much God tier.

  • the guy has got CHOPS

  • where is the rythym? i appreciate this hand speed but after a minute the solo becomes white noise

  • @ChimpinAwesome yep...white noise alright....he's the best ever

  • this guy is the fanciest drummer ever. but not exactly the grooviest judging from this solo

  • @murdok620 look at his face in the beginning hes a jammer

  • and he does it all in a suit

  • I love that his ride is attatched to his bassdrum !

  • wut O_O this is some hand technique...

  • does anyone else understand what I mean when I say this is such a masculine drum solo? I'm not even sure I do it just feels that way to me haha

  • The Best, thats all !

  • I still can't figure out if people who say Travis Barker are kidding or not. It's a bad joke if they are.

  • How can you not believe that apes are our ancestors after watching this? Game over, dude. Case closed.

  • How can you not believe that apes are our ancestors after watching this? Game over, dude. Case closed.

  • omg, at 0:26 he plays the bass with his stick a bit.

  • Dressed nicely ... still gives 'em hell! The best!!

  • travis barker looks like a wind up monkey compared to buddy rich

  • after this ,,, buddy got RICH :P:P

  • I'd like to see drum rolls like that on a high speed camera. Would probably look pretty cool.

  • grandpa didn't take his pills today. lawlz

  • ...the best drummer ever!!! Bow for you Buddy!

  • jesus....i think i shot a load of custard in my undies....i havent seen this solo by B R....

  • Insane contrast at the end! But thats the only thing that was intriguing in his playing here in this clip, in my opinion. . .

  • Yep! Your subjective opinion--nothing else.

  • In my opinion the best drummer ever lived

  • Awesome one hand roles, I need to learn from these drummers!!!

  • great!! thanks for the video!!

  • Amazing........

  • before rich's death

prior to heart surgery, when asked by a nurse if he was allergic to anything; he replied, "Yes, Country and Western music!" Days before he died, he was visited by Mel Tormé, who claims that one of Buddy's last requests was "to hear the tapes" that featured his angry outbursts.

  • Comment removed

  • The Godfather of drumming for sure

  • the GRAND FUCKING FATHER OF EVERY DRUMMER THAT RESPECTS HER/HIMSELF

  • Buddy Rich was a legendary drummer, but I'm pretty sure that Chuck Norris might be better XD

    Nah Joke, Buddy FTW

  • you see

that's the amazing thing about buddy rich

he was better drumming than chuck norris fighting

    thats something =0

  • Without question - Rich was the fastest - but the best ? I think his playing lacked imagination. Adeduction (above) mentioned a bunch of great names - and there are others.. My drummer friend, when we listened to my Rich Versus Roach album in the mid 60's thought Roach was far more innovative and much better at syncopation. I always wondered why he said that but it finally seems more clear now after all these years.

  • Lars Ulrich.. Excellent stuff..Didn't know he was Metallica's drummer !

  • wait, did you just say travis barker as a legitimate contender HA! jon karel, vag.

  • first of all if you dont at least respect buddy you know nothing about drums. Second of all both of which if asked, would say they come no where near the skill of buddy rich. Which is true.

In my personal opinion travis barker is just a kid who learned a few rudiments to a metronome and got a bunch of lame tatoos. try expanding your horizons.

Also, i can play better than lars ulrich ego aside and in all honesty. ill let you know when i post a solo.

  • @phelepone Totally agreed! Guys like Jojo Mayer and Dave Weckl are the real drummers of this generation. And drummers like Lars Ulrich and Travis Barker are in the lowest grade of drumming nowdays. Get it in your heads lars/travis fans.. It's really annoying to read comments of awesome jazz drummer vids where ppl say " Lars is the best! Alot better than this dude "..

Sorry if there's some mistakes in my grammar x)

  • @phelepone Buddy's not that great... He's just got the most speed, the most creativity, the most groove and he somehow manages to keep time. Impressive? Ill say.

  • Really? Tell me, why weren't Vic Firth ever interested in Travis Barker/Lars ulrich if they are so good then?

  • so i guess you like fast rock beats over real talent?

  • Your spelling and grammar are as good as your taste in drummers.

  • @PENNSY671E

Lacked imagination? That's a good one! Lol! This is one of the best solos ever done by anyone! I would like for Max Roach to even attempt a solo like this, of this magnitude. Buddy skills are one of the most sought after of anyone, in the drumming world.

  • If buddy was alive...and I saw him....I would fall down to my knees drop my drumsticks and say IM NOT WORTHY! IM NOT WORTHY! if god played the drums, buddy would still be better

  • Except for Buddy Rich. I don't think you know much about jazz or anything about drumming. It;s obvious you are not a drummer. I just got through listening to Lenny White, Philly Joe Jones, Jo Jones, Elvin Jones Jack DeJohnette, Roy Haynes all fantastic drummers & then this by Rich to see if any one of them played better than Rich but for some reason I see & hear that Rich played the drums better than any drummer I've ever heard. And I've hear a lot. Maybe it is because I am a drummer.

  • Buddy Rich is the best drummer I have ever seen, mostly on tv years back, so far. Nobody else is even close, although Vinnie Colaiuta is a creative genius with percussion . Being mostly a guitarist myself I enjoy evaluating the great talents of other instruments.

  • best drummers r black

  • asd2734 And the superior black version of Buddy Rich is...according to your racial preference? The name......the name. ok No name=FAIL

  • @Blues353 Max Roach (though not superior just right below)

  • @Blues353 race has nothing to do with any type of skill ever

  • maybe just thomas pridgen

  • @asd2734 fuck you coon.

  • crazy old man

    5/5

  • A true legend. rip buddy rich.

  • his speed and agility , even at the age he was here is mind blowing..a true master !! if only every drummer could have you're musicality and technique and finess and speed !! and that left hand is a killer !!!! just like bonzo's right foot !!

  • ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME!

  • this guy is soo kool plus his suit is kopol

    \

  • Buddy Rich used double bass three times at the paramount.

  • That was simply amazing.

  • Buddy was the king. Paul T Riddle was his greatest protege

  • imagina esse cara batendo punheta

    haha

  • shit. god is on youtube.

  • on 1:54 snare sound like gatling gun!!!!!

  • Nope, just a buzz roll.

  • Those are probably double strokes.

  • he like the drum god of crossovers

  • whatever opinions you guys have aside, buddy rish is one of the greatest drummer that has ever lived...

  • WHAT?? no double bass?

  • ...i....i dont think he needs...it...O.o

  • Double bass is for cheaters. This guy can do this stuff with one bass and 3 toms.

  • im pretty sure Buddy Rich was practically the inventor of double bass

  • No... he always used a single.

  • my bad, i was thinking louie bellson

  • Bellson was an amazing drummer.

  • he really was, deffinatly one of the druming "kings"

  • no, the inventor was louise bellson

  • ive already established that, read a few comments back.

    i just got mixed up

  • know wat, ill let him of being a complete racist arsehole

    that was a mazing

  • look at him go.. wow. mind blowing.

  • this guy made me have to leave,,,it blew my mid

  • the only reason "old people" are good at crossovers, rolls and just what this guy jams out is because of the way they were learnt. these days learning the drums is different to the styles techniques and for these guys learnt in thier era.

  • damn what a role O.O

  • Haha. That was funny.

  • Dennis Chambers has the cross-over thing going on too.

  • i noticed

only old people are effing pros at crossovers.....

  • THIS IS METAL

  • Really? I didn't know that metal drummers played 32 second note triplets and such, much less play one handed snare rolls. Wow....if this is metal, then give me some names. I want that music in my CD collection. :)

  • one handed rolls aren't too hard. you could do it the way that buddy rich does or you can go the metal way with gravity blasts. and if you want speed try the drummer from Sikth or Brian Dailor from Mastodon.

  • Gravity blasts and blast beats and all that shit go suck a cock. That gots nothing against Buddy man, Buddy could eat those guys for breakfast. He was already the greatest drummer while Brian Dailor was still sucking on his mom's tits at the opening day of Woodstock man.

  • aparantly us metal drummers have something that others don't. I play other styles and recognize them as amazing. And as a matter of fact Buddy Guy even does blast beats. Do you have something against him?

  • Buddy Guy is a fucking amazing blues guitarist, what the fuck are you talking about.

  • why is the bass drum hollow? or is it? is that the kind of sound he wants/likes, pls fill me in thx

  • i thinks it sounds hollow but it sounds kinda cool but not whive this sort of muzick(spelt it wrong i know it)

  • That's just the sound he was looking for, riverlink. Those big band drummers had to project, and didn't want muffling to quiet down their set.

  • looks like the fucking vids sped up but it isnt!!!

  • great stuff.. but don't get me wrong.. what a nerd xD

  • The original God of Drums

  • It is so insane that after all these years, and with all the old and new talent still killing it, Buddys speed and skill is still considered the greatest of all time. Pretty amazing, imo.

  • Really? Well now TOny, if you honestly believe you are better then Buddy Rich, lets see/hear what you've got? Got any links you can provide? Surely you wouldnt come on hear talking this kind of shit if you arent prepared to back it up? Cmon now..

  • Inf#@$in' CREDIBLE! Look at his $%#@$%# hands!! If you can't appreciate this, you are NOT a real drummer, I'm sorry.

Oh, what ever happened to fat Tony?

    ...ROFLMAO!!!!

  • Bahahaha

  • HAHAHAHA Where r u at Tony?!

  • ok. ill see if i can record it with my camera you basterd

  • You know fatty, calling me a basterd was a ugly thing to do....that hurt. Im just asking for proof of your claim that you are faster and more talented then the undisputed king of modern drumming, thats not to much to ask. I'll be waiting for these videos of this undiscovered raw drumming talent, known only as Fat TOny on the internets.

  • wow.

  • thats it all you liked were the cymbol chokes??!!!

  • awesome video awesome cymbal choaks
