  • These guys are pretty happy about the fact they got a seat at the bar... it must be dollar draft night...

  • 3:35  it's Tobias from Arrested Development!

  • OMFW wow.

    I liked Linkin Park then Eminem

    I liked Rammstein then Marylin Manson

    I like Bring me The horizon then Heaven shall burn.

    I watched (the) watchmen then I liked Phillip Glass

    now I only like Phillip Glass

  • this one was quite nice, but i liked more the met live performance. A very powerful opera

  • Every opera I ever heard/saw said nothing to me.

    In complete contrast, Satyagraha has me spellbound: tears streaming down my silly face.... it is so-o-o moving, I shall have to go back in time and see what I missed in those earlier operas ;-)

  • Guaaaauuu, this part is incredible, Philipe Glass with amazing music from this new century, totally avant garde.....

  • Total bull! For the brain dead only.

  • @nativenooyawkuh

    No. Making stupid comments on YouTube videos of music you don't understand is "for the brain dead only."

  • Glass is the master of the hook...and his hooks are so good that they can be repeated without becoming boring. I love this excerpt, the drinkers look a dodgy bunch in those clothes. Amazing running on the "beam" by Ghandi singer considering he's looking up all the time. Very interesting choreography...would have been great to see this live!

  • poor little person

  • This is from Bhagavat Gita. Very complex, arising from simplicity - how do we transcend the self of desire. It is the source of all failings of human beings. Period.

  • The chorus (as in the libretto):

    "This I have gained today, this whim I’ll satisfy;

    this wealth is mine and much more too will be

    mine as time goes on. He was an enemy of mine,

    I’ve killed him, and many another I’ll kill. I am

    master here. I take my pleasure as I will; I am

    strong and happy and successful. I’m rich and of

    good family. Who else can match himself with

    me?"

    To those who thought this couldn't be any more beautiful :)

  • @gamenorus its certainly not beautiful but the libretto is meaningful to setup the context of inequality.

  • @khaderach19 Tragically beautiful if you will. Its content may not be pleasant, but the way it's presented speaks to the heart. That is beauty to me!

  • C'est vraiment quelque chose !!!

  • The mugs of beer are surely of some significance, but im just not getting it...

  • @thewritingwriterof89

    it keeps is bound and drunk and unwilling to cooperate with non cooperation with the PTB

  • @thewritingwriterof89 It's the content South African whites bragging (in the pub) about their power while Gandhi develops his ideas of passive resistance during his stay in SA. I'm not making this up, you know.

  • Philip Glass is the man. Got much of his music and Satyagraha is one of my favorite. I ve been a faithful fan for over 30 years now.

  • The dancer playing Gandhiji is in amazingly good shape! He runs in place for five minutes straight!

  • This is amazing. Jah blessings for the composer and musicians.

  • Damn you cut it off at my favorite bit.

  • * go to video,google,com

    * search for 4189724368192097977

    * or search for Satyagraha

    * click the longest video, 2:45:38

    * play

    * have fun! #k.

  • I first heard this opera 20 years ago in college and I am so happy to be able to hear it again on Utube.

  • Very weird production, but a great opera.

  • wow

    This is the "Music of the week" at my daughter's school (1st grade) so I googled it. Never thought I liked the Opera but this is powerful stuff

  • oh wow, that`s really hip!

  • Thank you so much for posting this, I heard this opera a year ago on radio and have been searching ever since.. Thank you!

  • Do glass made some opera for Baritone solist?

  • I'm not sure ... but if you like baritone, I'm sure you'd enjoy John Adams's wonderful modern opera, "Nixon in China", parts of which are available on Youtube
