For once there's a reporter who seems to KNOW the band before interviewing. This the the best reporter I've seen with AFI. They seemed cursed to always have weird reporters that won't even look up a goddanged thing about them before the interview, nowadays! I like this guy, he's much better than the last couple....

Well in my opinion i think they let automation take over a lot of what they did in the last album. I'm sure they did work hard and its a cool album, but it seems like a lot of bands that get on a big record label all tend to let drum machines and synth take over, and record chuunks of songs, and then when its live its all done really loosely and out of timing, because they don't practice together enough.

No not completely selling out, I guess my points are a totally other idea. Some bands sound exactly like their studio albums when you see them live, and I find that really enjoyable. I've seen some AFI live sets on youtube, and it sometimes seems all out of balance, same for The mars volta, another band heavily into intricate studio recordings, really cool sounds, which may sometimes be hard to recreate live. It can be disapointing.

apparently you havent seen afi live. and the whole point of seeign them live is the differences and it not being PERFECT like the album. seeing davey scream his lungs out isntead of just yelling a part. davey puasing to take a breath. jade spinning around WHILE playing parts.

They love the cure, dude. They have tattoos and stuff, and are quite influenced (On "The Interview" Davey says "Pray for rain/lose your name..." which is a reference to the song "Prayers for Rain" by the Cure)

Well covering songs by such a legendary band is always a huge risk, because there is so much room to screw up a classic (ie The Cure). But I think they do a pretty good job, if you've ever seen them perform "Just Like Heaven" I don't think they do a bad job. Maybe I'm a disillusioned afi freak as well ^_^
