Using a violin bow on your guitar is not a fucking technique it's a stage antic not comparable to tapping. Tapping is just a differen't way of playing the notes. EVH wasn't the best at it but he popularized it. You can do a lot of complex leads by tapping and it makes for much more interesting leads than sweeping chord arpeggios.

Judge Len Goodman penalize them for "breaking the hold" and going all crazy with it. Ed resorted to bringing up Eruption at every occasion. Its not necessary and it gets stale...

It's meant to be exilhirating, exciting, and stimulating, but obvious it would become stale after 30 years and how often you probably listen to it and comment on the videos. I like it and I think it's great for guitar players to learn and practice their picking and tapping techniques, but I don't sit around and listen to Eruption all day.

Guitar continued to suck more throughout the 80s, with players either wanking or resorting to power ballads. Its like everyone had run out of creativity.

Today I really dont like Eruption at all anymore and cant understand why I liked it back then.
