The reason Shemp is the 3rd stooge, is because Curly was VERY sick and had to retire. He was actually supposed to make a CAMEO, but couldnt get thru the take. I have seen a classic photo of a bearded Curly, with Moe Larry and Shemp looking at him. The only time all 3 HOWARD brothers appeared on one sound stage TOGETHER. Rest in peace , Moe Larry Shemp and especially CURLY!!!!!!
