I don't care much for study groups, although I do agree with the benefits recevied when discussing the law with classmates. I commonly find myself saying, "Wow, I didn't think of that."
The main problem with study groups is that they can be very distracting. People will often socialize for at least half of the duration of the study group, defeating the purpose.
There's also the issue of irresponsibility, if someone has to take a call and leaves for a while or someone misses the study group appointment (or shows up unacceptably late), then the whole things basically goes to hell.
Study groups also provide bases, for the immature, for gambling on test results, like beer, maybe like Facebook DUFF BEER icons for like Muffy and CindEE at $1 a pop.
More reason? You need more reason?
Maybe basic Study Group TERMS can be a start.
Will it be reasonable terms unread? Unwritten? AsYetUnsentLinkToInSameJurisdiction?
i really found it quite helpful personally speaking. if you're too smart to get any advice from people who've already been through law school, good for you. And good luck. hehe.
This DVD will help anyone who can set their ego aside for a minute and actually take some advice. Perhaps you should go interview 50 law students from across the country yourself and see if you don't learn something. Can't do that? Then, get the DVD b/c that is precisely what they do.
I have to agree, there are specific ways to increase your law school ranking. Mostly, these have to do with how SMART and EFFICIENT your study methods are. I would urge everyone to visit (AllAboutLawSchool(dot)com) and browse the chapters of this DVD. Moreover, you can read our testimonials and decide for yourself whether this is a good buy. I believe there is nothing better on the market.
Study groups are worthless. Get the old exams and answers for the class. Take them with you into the exam and shovel everything you can from the answer key into the exam.
who gives a fuck about what you know or think? It's what the professor thinks that gets you the A and a job at Cravath.
Totally lame, I'm embarrassed for these people on the video. Study groups are a waste of time anyway. Ha, like there are so many layers to be picked through. Give me a break. There's definitely nothing that your study group can think of that somebody else hasn't, and even if they do, it's crap b/c it's not established. Law school isn't about thinking about new abstract ideas, it's about case law.
Anyone who actually purchases this video is a fool. It's just another money-making gimmic. And I wish I thought of it first, because it is actually quite smart (it is marketed to an audience of over-anxious, over-acheiving pre-law students).
I am in Law School and it is SOOO full on. the material is often really engaging and interesting but the pressure and atmosphere of competitiveness takes so much away from the fun you are supposed to have at uni! I have another degree from another area and that just felt like a walk in the park compared to this! As for study groups, like on of the guys in the clip said - i dont need that extra pressure
"Nuances that set you apart?" How can they set YOU apart when they came from someone else and when the whole study group is going to use the "nuance"? Unless you are used to study groups in under grad., they are a waste of time.
No one "passes" the LSAT--you just do better or worse than average.
Anyway, my take on study groups is don't take them too seriously. If it's a group of friends talking about the material, that's awesome, but don't sit around and rehash everything about the class before class, unless the professor is extremely difficult or you absolutely KNOW what will be discussed. The most important part of first year is learning to present a well supported argument.
Hey, are a law student? I am thinking of pursuing a career as a M&A Attorney in the future, and I wanted to know what I am getting myself into. My question is, what's law school really like? I am average-smart, sort of speak. How hard is law school?
I just graduated from law school, and for the most part...HATED IT! lol. But really, study groups are way over-rated, and after the 1st yr not all that important.
For all of you who passed the LSAT and attending ABA law schools, God Bless. However, if you did not pass the LSAT and still want to be a lawyer there are altnatives: check out "lawschoolbible.com"
