My son was diagnosed with autism at age 3 and is now 6. There's nothing fake about the life my son lives. It's very real. It's a struggle every day--one that I wish more people would try to understand.

Williams and Baggs are both quick to bully (including with bogus legal threats) anyone who dares question their diagnoses, but give as Baggs blatantly imitated my life in the process I've 'got something to say about that' and will not be silenced.

I told her some of the things you have said because I was trying to pick her brain to find some ideas as to how to respond. She took it upon herself to make her responses, they were not my idea. I understand some of your anger, and wish you the best, but making accusations without any proof is not going to solve anything.
I simply asked if you had ever considered the possibility that the doctor may have been entirely wrong about your early diagnosis (and thusly if you've also considered the possibility that your subsequent self-diagnosis might also be wrong)

What you are missing is that when you diagnosed, there was nothing really . I have friends that their sons and daughters went through much of the same. These are my heroes. They fought for the supports and services that allowed my son to achieve what he has.

What Mr. Savage and what you clearly do not understand is that Autism is a spectrum disorder meaning that it ranges in cases from milder (higher functioning) to more severe (lover functioning). 1 last thing - just 2 clarify 4 those without 1st hand knowledge, having a child with autism does not automatically equate 2 having a child that's medicated. So while Savage might've had a valid point expressing his original concern over 2 yr olds being given anti-cholesterol drugs, it doesn't seem 2 make any sense that autism should be thrown into the mix since as he himself stated - he wasn't talking about autism - and from my POV he should have left it that way.
Agred, it is a truly sad thing that he did not leave it at that as if he did it would have been one of his few moments of actual sanity. I have taken a few medications for depression in the past and almost all of them made me worse rather then better. And even the ones that worked while they helped keep me sane enough to not end it all were't silver bullets that solved all of my problems overnight. It took years of therapy, love and willpower to do that.

pt2 I was married to a man with Aspergers syndrome. He had not been diagnosed as a child and in fact was not diagnosed untill I fought for 6 years to get a diagnosis. We Lived in a remote part of Scotland and at the time I first thought he may have Aspergers there was no adult diagnostic service in Scotland, we did not have the money to pay for a private one. He was also an insulin dependant diabetic who was not taking care of himself. He would get very depressed and like you reacted badly
pt 3 to anti depressants. In fact some of them sent him crazy. When I finally managed to get him diagnosed their was no help for him because none of the available healthcare workers understood the condition, in fact by then I had done so much research that they said I knew more about it than they did...not what i wanted to hear! So I carried on trying to find ways to help him and found out that some young people with undiagnosed Aspergers in UK end up in mental wards due to medication. see pt 4
Pt 4 Eventually I found out that some people with Aspergers who are depressed are helped by St Johns Wort, so I phoned Exeter University and spoke to a professor who was doing some research into it. He advised a dose of 3 a day of the Kira brand which are sold in UK in packs of 30 one a day tablets, we struggled to afford it and eventually, because it helped managed to get our health authority to cover the cost. The change it brought about was not dramatic but if he didn't take the tablets
pt 5 for 3 days I could tell he had missed them as his anger levels rose his communication dropped and his mood became low. Obviously his case is not the same as yours and his situation was made worse by having exactly the sort of Father as a child as Savage would reccomend...a bully who beat him which I believe is why he could react so violently toward me at times. I just wanted to tell you this because if you haven't tried those pills they may help.He didn't get side effects.Take care bb55

Hi BladeEdge86, thanks for your replies to my comments. Banning Savage from UK isn't our gov stopping free speech. Uk is only tiny approx 900 miles from end to end. Savage being here and ranting his angry talk could cause civil unrest on a major scale.Some using it as an excuse and some protesting at him being here. Uk gov does not stop anyone from listening to anything they want but he has the potential to cause severe civil unrest and racial tension.Savage is clever he hates,then charms.
Now that there is greater understanding of Autism then there was in previous years people with Autism are getting diagnosed earlier, but we still have a long way to go. Once the child becomes an adult they are often left holding the bag, children have gotten more help which is good but there are hardly any good programs for adults with Autism. The clearly needs to change, because we cannot just abandon them once they grow up. see pt 3

I owe much of my success to the fact that I was diagnosed early on in life even though my first diagnosis wasn't entirely accurate my Mother at least knew to get a second opinion. As for my anger, yes I did say I was a mad as hell in my video and meant it however I don't think it comes anywhere near to the level justified to take any sort of medication. I once had anger like that, and nearly every medication I took either made it worse or turned me into a zombie. I only take pills when all other options have been thoroughly exhausted. I am mostly angry at the crooked politicians who are ripping us off by bailed out their criminal buddies on wall street. see pt 4

Alright...
This was the one post where.. after 'mother and son duo' kept responding with anger-filled/forever blindly anger-projecting silliness, yeah you (both together) actually did manage to elicit maybe not an actual anger, but at least little 'snappiness' returned.

One more thing:
You may want to have a look at my "Open Letter" video (it includes a good descriptive of my early diagnostic/prognosis and my life is a good example of the perils of being mistook/low expectations).
If however I had been capable to cease to show signs of Kanner's Syndrome/Autistic Disorder, or if even now I should ever somehow be found to something other than Autistic, as unlikely as that may be, I would and will embrace it for sake of accuracy honesty and personal betterment.

Additionally for me is the knowledge that Autism isn't some 'lifestyle' to be claimed and/or some ridiculous badge to be worn.
Autism/being Autistic just isn't that amazing.
I find that I am only 5'0" (short) and other people's height (especially other really tall or short) to be loads more amazing.
Even so,
I don't run around trying to make a lifestyle or identity or badge out my height (or 'lack thereof') either.
I am far more than just 'Autistic" or "short" etc

Nobody is going on here is pretending to be my mother, "Joysenberry" actually is my mother. I told her some of the things you have said because I was trying to pick her brain to find some ideas as to how to respond. She took it upon herself to make her responses, they were not my idea. I understand some of your anger, and wish you the best, but making accusations without any proof is not going to solve anything.

I simply asked if you had ever considered the possibility that the doctor may have been entirely wrong about your early diagnosis (and thusly if you've also considered the possibility that your subsequent self-diagnosis might also be wrong)

Aspergers is part of Autism rainbow, it is a different color of the rainbow then your form but it is just as much a part of it. If I were a better man I probably would say I have that particular form of Autism, but just because I didn't further specify my exact form down to every perfect does not make me a liar.

Life (especially life as an autistic dealing with the internet) has taught me some very harsh lessons, including a few whether one should simply take all things seen/presented at the surface/face-value which they are presented

What you are missing is that when you diagnosed, there was nothing really . I have friends that their sons and daughters went through much of the same. These are my heroes. They fought for the supports and services that allowed my son to achieve what he has.

There are plenty of people with PhD's that don't have a clue about this issue either, just because someone has an advanced degree dosen't mean that they aren't ignorant or in some cases even willfully ignorant. Believe it or not I actually have Autism, I have a perspective on this issue that far too few people have heard and that is what it is like to live with Autism.

I don't think Michael Savage hates me, I just think he is a glorified shock jock who just says the most appauling things he can think of for simple shock value. And I don't really hate him either because hating him would be a waste of time and energy, but that dosen't necessarily mean that I like him either. Most of the time I ignore people like him, but this time I made an exception because this case of foot in mouth disease has the potential to do more harm then anything else he has ever said.

What Savage said is not only a twisted variation on the old refrigerator mother syndrome which blamed the mother (in this case the father) for everything, which did just as much damage to us as "seperate but equal" did to blacks. Actually I remember reading somewhere that a couple of US presidents probably had aspergers syndrome its a very hidden condition which unless you have experienced in someone you care about you could never understand fully.Perhaps what Savage meant was ADHD which is over diagnosed and can be diet related.He should think before he speaks NOT AFTER.

Actually, I have not proved anyones point but my own. What Mr. Savage and what you clearly do not understand is that Autism is a spectrum disorder meaning that it ranges in cases from milder (higher functioning) to more severe (lover functioning). He clearly proves that point in his assumption that the majority of cases of Autism are the result of a "father not being around to tell them to stop acting like a moron" which seems to be Michael Savages spin on the Refrigerator Mother Syndrome...

1 last thing - just 2 clarify 4 those without 1st hand knowledge, having a child with autism does not automatically equate 2 having a child that's medicated. So while Savage might've had a valid point expressing his original concern over 2 yr olds being given anti-cholesterol drugs, it doesn't seem 2 make any sense that autism should be thrown into the mix since as he himself stated - he wasn't talking about autism - and from my POV he should have left it that way.

Agred, it is a truly sad thing that he did not leave it at that as if he did it would have been one of his few moments of actual sanity. I have taken a few medications for depression in the past and almost all of them made me worse rather then better. And even the ones that worked while they helped keep me sane enough to not end it all were't silver bullets that solved all of my problems overnight. It took years of therapy, love and willpower to do that.

pt2 I was married to a man with Aspergers syndrome. He had not been diagnosed as a child and in fact was not diagnosed untill I fought for 6 years to get a diagnosis. We Lived in a remote part of Scotland and at the time I first thought he may have Aspergers there was no adult diagnostic service in Scotland, we did not have the money to pay for a private one. He was also an insulin dependant diabetic who was not taking care of himself. He would get very depressed and like you reacted badly

pt 3 to anti depressants. In fact some of them sent him crazy. When I finally managed to get him diagnosed their was no help for him because none of the available healthcare workers understood the condition, in fact by then I had done so much research that they said I knew more about it than they did...not what i wanted to hear! So I carried on trying to find ways to help him and found out that some young people with undiagnosed Aspergers in UK end up in mental wards due to medication. see pt 4

Pt 4 Eventually I found out that some people with Aspergers who are depressed are helped by St Johns Wort, so I phoned Exeter University and spoke to a professor who was doing some research into it. He advised a dose of 3 a day of the Kira brand which are sold in UK in packs of 30 one a day tablets, we struggled to afford it and eventually, because it helped managed to get our health authority to cover the cost. The change it brought about was not dramatic but if he didn't take the tablets

pt 5 for 3 days I could tell he had missed them as his anger levels rose his communication dropped and his mood became low. Obviously his case is not the same as yours and his situation was made worse by having exactly the sort of Father as a child as Savage would reccomend...a bully who beat him which I believe is why he could react so violently toward me at times. I just wanted to tell you this because if you haven't tried those pills they may help.He didn't get side effects.Take care bb55

Protecting free speech is protecting all speech, even speech that you hate. Hi BladeEdge86, thanks for your replies to my comments. Banning Savage from UK isn't our gov stopping free speech. Uk is only tiny approx 900 miles from end to end. Savage being here and ranting his angry talk could cause civil unrest on a major scale.Some using it as an excuse and some protesting at him being here. Uk gov does not stop anyone from listening to anything they want but he has the potential to cause severe civil unrest and racial tension.Savage is clever he hates,then charms.

Now that there is greater understanding of Autism then there was in previous years people with Autism are getting diagnosed earlier, but we still have a long way to go. Once the child becomes an adult they are often left holding the bag, children have gotten more help which is good but there are hardly any good programs for adults with Autism. The clearly needs to change, because we cannot just abandon them once they grow up. see pt 3

As for my anger, yes I did say I was a mad as hell in my video and meant it however I don't think it comes anywhere near to the level justified to take any sort of medication. I once had anger like that, and nearly every medication I took either made it worse or turned me into a zombie. I only take pills when all other options have been thoroughly exhausted. I am mostly angry at the crooked politicians who are ripping us off by bailed out their criminal buddies on wall street. see pt 4

I'm a parent of 2 autistic sons & from my POV nobody needed 2 twist his words 4 them 2 sound F'd up -- THEY WERE! He didn't come across with any of the feeling that he later claimed he was trying 2 express -- he came off as 1 who lacks any 1st hand knowledge of (or concern 4) those with autism. "Money Racket"? -- GET REAL! There's no SocSec & most InsCo's won't even pay 4 therapy. Those who live it know there's no benefit 2 having autism -- often (as Savage proves) there's not even compassion.
