I always thought of this as a Mississippi Blues song...but you got that good old Piedmont thumb kickin along. Brother, this is a great version. (that old Resophonic box is gooooood!)
Hey, amazing playing! I just bought an old 1930's regal guitar that looks just like yours, apart from it doesn't have the truss rod, do you know what model it is? Hope mine sounds as good as yours when it arrives! Cheers
out of Henry Thomas, Taj Mahal and this guy, I actually like this one the best. I never thought I would say something was better than Taj Mahal. Blasphemy.
m really sorry, but these things freak me out sooo much!

This is the best version of the song I have ever heard. I love it! I watch this video several times a day. Do you think you could ever post a video lesson on how to play this song? I'm sure it would be highly appreciated by many. Thanks for the entertainment.
Thanks for the quick reply. Love to hear some more of your stuff. I'm a pedal steel player. I try to play a lot of this kind of thing with the guitar when I have time. Getting my thumb to alternate constantly is a bitch for me. Fun to work on though.
I love this version, WELL DONE. A lot of artists play this too fast or too slow. One of my favorite songs ever that I intend to be played when I pass over, among the people I love the most.
It's to bad for people like Williefortes, They get so bored and aren't interested in anything that they have to make such rubbish comments in order to get attention. such a pity, but oh well.
Got some nice music there DeltaYogi, keep it up man.
Screw that guy. Don't worry man good call on the song. I'm just getting into Taj Mahal. I got it for my dad and I thought he was completely insane. After a while I started listening to it and right now I own the entire discography. Good music.
Ha! It was actually my son the joker who wrote that. When he was younger I used to make him sing at open mic while I played guitar. It was a great experience for both of us. He has a Skip James page on MySpace that's a nice tribute to a great bluesman and shows I brought him up well, ha!
CRAP...i feel sorry for your kids! i bet they had to listen to this sort of rubbish 24/7...in fact I would put money on it you coerced them into performing songs with you...probably this one in particular at open mic events, say at Capital Garage in Sacramento for example...just my opinion...
I am really sorry you feel that way. If I had a son like you, I would make sing delta blues before going to bed and feed him tuna and macaroni and cheese. Thanks for the positive feedback.
I could listen to you play all day long....non-stop. Old people love this type of music...At least this old woman does. You did a great job, and should be proud of yourself. (I love De Blues, especially on that type of guitar.) Thanks a million for the concert!!!
Your "Fishin' Blues" is one of the best efforts I've seen on You Tube. Maybe the best. Clean style, a cool voice and the perfect guitar for this song.Mostly I like your fingerpicking.I like it that you're not afraid to attack the strings and make 'em pop. Gives the music an edge. Nothing soft and creamy. Snap those strings.Thank you for this. It's going to all my guitar playing pals at the Petaluma dog park.
Great Song. Thanks for the "memory". I have very fond memories listening to my father play this song, while I was growing up. He's in Novato about every 3 months. I'd love to hear a duet from the two of you two.
Yes, probably. Age 62 now. He grew up in San Mateo, University in Palo Alto, He flys from alaska every quarter to visit his father in Novato, and brother-in-law in Petaluma. I believed he learned this song while in Oregon before I was born (early 70's). Every so often, I would beg him to bring out the guitar and sing that song to me. :-)
Hi DeltaYogi, Great job with this song. Any chance you could do a slowed down version to help us play it like you. Thanks.....
