Once you realize this, there should be little to no problem learning the language.

  • First time in my life that I can understand the different Chinese tones. Thank you very much!

  • 老师 好、您 贵 姓

  • I don't see a way to memorize that one word means 4 things, and people will understand me wrong if I don't memorize the tone. also I saw 39 different characters for one word..I am doomed to fail at chinese and I'm going to college for this :(

  • Thank you for this video. I think its going to help me learning chinese.

  • that's crazy :P

  • does she give private lessons...?

  • @rainking81 you mean private private? :D

  • The music in the beginning is actually kind of pretty!

  • WTF the second third and fourth sound the same...

  • wow! I really get it! :D thanks for teaching.

  • pretty easy

  • hen mei , pioliang

  • four different sound applies to all chinese speakers. so when you speak, you can pronounce them properly. or else, the sound would be foreign and they have to catch what you are saying normally easy to get your sentence. eg ....recall this tone from 1 to 4, obviously just four only, dan1 means bill if you pronounce the fourth dan4 they would be looking for an egg...so you might get ready a pen for drawing to make things clear..

  • I'm having a slightly difficult time telling the difference between my own pronunciations of the second and third tones. ><

  • Thanks a lot, Gabrielle. I just registered at china-8. com. The lessons there will surely improve my mandarin.

    Xièxiè

  • Yeah, I wondered as well ... is she naked or what??! But watch out I think the way she speaks the first tone is not correct. My friend just said that she looks a bit Vietnamese doesn't she?

  • hahahahaha so funnt

  • Pin yin with yangyang is better. But this girl def. reminds me sissy spacek in carrie. :D

  • The consonants combined with the vowels make sounds that are in the russian language. yay, i can learn this~!

  • I didn't hear a thing see said, i got too distracted by something else.

  • you are hot!

  • @Criptografo

I love teaching and letting people learn from my experiences!! Watch my videos! =) =)

  • whats the name of that song playing, I heard it a movie once.

  • thanks! short and simple

  • You make almost no difference between ye2 and ye3.

  • Excellent demonstration. Thanks for this.

  • 1,3 and 4 are fine

    it 2 I hate

  • @stareleades I second that opinion.

  • I hate modern mandarin,it's not the purest Chinese, mandarin is mixed with Mongolian and Manchurian.I will show you the purest Chinese.

  • what are the lines beneath the english words?

  • The red line shows the direction of the sound. So, for the first tone, it's flat, so the line is flat; the second one is going up, so the line is going up.

  • It's easier to learn, sure. But better is strictly a matter of subjective opinion.

  • porco dio

  • So complicated! So many words having so many similar pronounciations!

  • I have a solution to the Wade-Giles "J" transliteration: add an apostrophe after it, just as you would with other Chinese consonants which retain their English sounds (Ch', K' and T' for example). Therefore:

Jinan in Pinyin becomes J'inan in WG. ("J" words/names in Pinyin are always followed by the "i" vowel; otherwise it is "zh")

Zhong in Pinyin becomes J'ung in WG.

Zhongguo (the Chinese translation of "China") in Pinyin becomes J'ungkuo in WG.

  • Comment removed

  • i need help. i get the tones but then when im doing/saying sentences in chinese at skool i sound funny with the tones and dont sound natural

    can someone help me?

  • Great job, I understood the difference between the tones perfectly, thank you so much.

(But the neverending smile gets creepy after a while, even being beautiful as she is...)

  • Thank you! Excellent job.

  • 2nd and 3rd is so hard.

  • Amazing! Thx a lottt!

  • perfect!

    I love it

  • my chinese professor was teaching us these tones and her pronunciation isn't as clear as you are. i can actually tell there is a difference btween the second and third tone.

  • wow never thought that tones where that important!

  • She's so beautiful =)

  • hahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha rofl thats sow fucking funny

  • is she naked? good video by the way.

  • yes

  • lol if it helps, yes.

but probably not. probably taht ared outfit.

  • That girl is so cute! <3

  • congratulations!, keep on going!

so proud you help people to pronounce chinese well!!

  • como hace quedar como unos desadaptados sin cerebro a los occidentales este invécil... or you thing you are the only one in this world?, there are another cultures you now? and with your coment you show how is your culture... totally egocentric and blind!!!! so sad...

  • By that comment I'm assuming that you think I'm American.

I'm not. I'm German, and I am working for a degree in cultural anthropology. By the way, the word is "ethnocentric" not "egocentric."

By saying "fucking chinese" I mean that I'm learning it, and making the different tones is very hard for me, considering in my language everything sounds exactly the same. Very little exceptions to this rule.

That's okay though, continue being ignorant. It suits you well.

  • It´s difficult for all, I thing... I confess, I misunderstand your commentary, I´m sorry for that (but it really sounded like those seek occidental people that hate all about oriental culture). My english vocabulary is not good yet, so that´s the reason because I don´t knew the "ethnocentric" word, so that means I´m ignorant, but continue being ignorant is not an inteligent choice right?

  • You were right for responding the way did to his comment. You weren't ignorant in any way. He needs to learn respect for others including the people who read his profanity-laced, blasphemous comment on this page.

  • Thanks, I appreciate n_n... but nobody is completely wrong ore right in a discuccion, and maybe he learn to say sorry next time, I dont now...

  • uups, is sick, not seek...

  • actually, "ethnocentric" is just a more specific form of "egocentric", so his comment is in no way wrong. oh and his comment doesnt imply any specific nationality, and can apply equally well to just about any, but good job showing your own ignorance in assuming it must. and since i can see you're an idiot, i'll simply it for you: as a cuban, an american, and a human, i say "fuck you", and you may translate that into whichever language you like then shove it up whatever hole you like.. toodles.

  • easy shit. thanks for the lesson

  • can't difference the scond and third

  • There's a distinct lower tone on the third, before the raise. The second tone is on a continuous raise. i can tell quite clearly

  • omg so if i say mum wrong i could be calling her a horse?

  • holy crap XD oops

  • hey baby... got more tones?

  • is she wearing clothes?

  • i can't concentrate, the teacher is giving me a hard on....

  • i was laughing throughout and this comment made me lol

  • 要學繁體中文

    不要學簡體

  • 估计你是台湾的

  • Distracting, she is 美丽 mei li

  • some of the translations are incorrect

  • for example?

  • for example, ma(the swearing one) means to get angry

  • The 2nd and the 3rd tone sound really close. Is the 3rd tone longer and slightly lower? Please help. :)

  • The indication is on the accent used on the letter and the diagram below. 2nd tone is normal-higher but 3rd tone is normal-lower-higher.

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

    adorei

  • Yeah, grandpa also saw coconut on the page. Ye ye ye ye.

  • Numb mother swearing to the horse = ma ma ma ma. I love Chinese

  • wow, Gabby, you are so pretty and attractive! I am going to learn Chinese tones from you.

  • As a 学中文的白人 i cant stand that third tone is still taught with the falling then rising...of all things, when white people try to do that it we sound so dumb haha they need to start teaching it as just a flat low level tone in basic chinese courses, no where outside of a classroom do you hear third tone fall then rise, from the news to business courses

  • yeah, I noticed that when I was learning. I thought it was better to teach that as just a relaxed low tone because I noticed no one said it like that as well

  • It's so much easier to be motivated to learn when the teacher is gorgeous.

  • Cute teacher! Thanks for teach me the 'pinyin':)

  • 這是很基本的東西嘛....不過還是謝了~

  • the second tone sounds for me always like the third tone..i cant pronounce it right T_T

  • the difference is subtle

the 3rd tone goes down and stays there for a while before going up

  • I have that problem too, glad im not the only one.

  • Con una profesora asi, cualquiera aprende Chino en un dos por tres. Mamacita, wo xi huan ni!

  • She's so pretty. Ta hen hao de piaoliang!

  • your a good chinese teacher, but why does it look like your naked

  • u can marry me if u want... i need a personal teacher hehehe

  • Asian women = the hottest!

  • mmmmm...yummy (rising tone)

  • i was gona learn mandarin but after this i am like freaked out :(

    still try it thou :)

  • I have it bad...I'm hot for teacher. You are too cute, I can't concentrate. I really am in love with the culture and want to learn the language ( just returned from a 2 week trip to China ;-) so thanks for your bit of lovely help.

    bai bai!

  • Holy fucking... what the fuck?

  • ahhh you have no idea how much this helped me

    xièxie!!!

  • Muy buena la pronunciación y la presentadora

  • the grammar is ok, but the tones are kinda hard. even if you know your words it's hard to talk properly

  • So, which tone would you use to say "hottie"?

  • damn straight!

  • Definitely more useful than learning the Pinyin tones from a book. Am I the only person picturing this girl naked?

  • no.

  • i am picturing her naked too :)

  • AHHHAHAHAHHA!!!!

  • This was helpful, since I am learning Manderin and do not have any audio CD's to help me with the 4 tones! Thanks!

  • she is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute :*)

  • omg i just started to learn this language 20 minutes ago, and decided to see some videos in here too:P

rofl...am i really going to speak it one day??? Gosh it seems like making a suicide at first... but well..i'll see..

  • hey what a coincidence i just started learning this 20 mintues ago too lol

  • rofl, cool... well actually im learning cantonese. So how is it going for u?

  • lol well i went into it w/o knowing that "tones" even existed, and personally i'm finding it really frustrating to say even simple sentences because of them. but i won't give up!! how bout you? how's cantonese? how come u decided to learn it? just like languages? or another reason?

  • dude, Cantonese has like 9 tones. You know they're like "what did you just say? Fuck this, I'm going off to a corner and learning English"

  • WTF! Looks like I'll never speak this language.

  • looks like she needs to put some clothes on!

  • Is she starving to death or something?

  • Let me make it clear, my recent comment refers to those who make unnecessarily coarse comments about this pleasant video. I think this short video is most praiseworthy, easy on the ear, and the young lady enunciates each tone very clearly.!

  • SayHola dot com has Spanish and Chinese online lessons and tutoring. And they actually EXPLAIN things. This is just repeating words and sounds. Try it out - SayHola dot com

  • my grandma can do better than u!

  • excellent. i like the way the words and tones display at the bottom

  • the lesson is good..what's wrong with this thread...i mean it's lame...it goes without sayin' many o' the galz are cute...tha's the lure of asia kickin' in..where's the port, where's the junk
