People ask why Page didn't solo here. Well, he didn't solo on the original version, which he produced with Beck in '66 (though it wouldn't appear on album until '68's 'Truth'. Besides, Jimmy defers to Jeff - just check his R'n'R induction speech for Beck. On the Yardbirds excellent 'Happenings 10 Years Time Ago' Page played (great!) rhythm, Jeff did the solo. In fact, I heard from someone in-the-know, that Jimmy is loathe to pick up a guitar in Jeff's presence. The two are also great friends.
@belair510 - 'Goin' Down' (a Don Nix tune) is on Jeff's fourth album, simply called 'The Jeff Beck Group'. I has a white cover w/an orange in the centre and band member pics around that. It was produced by guitar legend Steve Cropper (Booker T & the MGs and writer/player on many great soul hits). It contains the instrumental 'Definitely Maybe' and 'I Can't Give Back the Love I Feel for You'... Which ultimately led him to going the instrumental route starting with 'Blow by Blow'.
That was just plain bad ass! Jeff's it, the way he made it sing and mimic Plants voice for the immagrnt song. Man what can't he pull off? I watch this performance at least once a day for pick me up!
I love how you can hear jimmy playing in the background in the very beginning, before Jeff actually introduces him. He's kind of the man behind the curtain.
Listen!
