They cast Fredie Walker (which is her name, btw) as Joanne originally because she has a fantastic voice and is a great actress. She portrays Joanne wonderfully, and that's a hell of a lot more important than anything about her appearance.

wow ppl don't nkow the show well if they judge Daphne's singing. This was last year in april for the 10th anniversary of the show. I love Daphne's Mimi, she's the best broadway Mimi. Her voice is raw and rapsy, very rocker whereas Rosario is earthy and smooth, sort of pop. The music in the movie is different from the show. Listen to both version of the albums, then you see the dofference.

Daphne isn't bad in any way, but I personally like Rosario's Mimi better. I suppose that you'd have to pick whether you like raw, or smooth. I perfer smooth. Preference doesn't interfer with your knowledge of a show. Take CATS for example. There is a million different productions. I like Jacob Brent as Misto best, but I wouldn't think that someone doesn't know CATS because they liked, say, Wayne Sleep.
